Testing efficiency of Rlaarlo AK-787 body and wing at 10.5mph wind speed. Current wind tunnel max speed set at 10.5mph. Working on faster wind tunnel at this time. Aiming for 70+ mph wind speed for next wind tunnel.

That’s why testing is done. Good work!

That is correct! Once I finish the larger wind tunnel we should start seeing some really good numbers!

Very interesting, dude! Yes, that lift on the front is kind of disturbing, especially at such low wind speed. I was watching some KZfaq documentaries about the topic a few months back, specifically about the Mercedes take-off at Lemans back then. The amount of car overhang in front of front axle is quite a lot. I'm guessing Rlaarlo didn't really do any testing themselves, they just made an RC car that looks like this particular sportscar. I'm looking forward to see your results on your aero improvements, but of course much of this you can also compensate for with suspension tuning. Very cool stuff to watch, I am happy I saw this in my news feed!

I feel the front lift may be a result of it sitting on the scales and that's why I will be improving that design aspect of the tunnel by making holes to sink scales into. That would allow for the car to sit at actual ride height and maybe make better use of its underside to mitigate that lift. Well, at least that's what I hope for. If not then we may have a serious issue at higher speeds which we will find out soon enough! It should be a lot cheaper to fix those issues while on the tunnel and not going airborne on the road! Lol

I like what you are doing and planned to do something similar. I'd recommend having a board at the bottom where you can hide the sensors from the air flow and make the car low to the ground plane. This will allow the ground effect to work correctly. Then you need to make sure the airflow is straight before it hits the car. 3d printing some tubes or gluing straws together are 2 simple options.

Yes, I go over these on my wind tunnel explanation video. For this particular one I used egg crate both front and rear to get air flow somewhat consistent as the straws created too much restriction for the fans to be able to generate any usable windspeed. The larger version will make much better use of these ideas as it uses a much stronger fan. As for the hidden scales this is also corrected on the larger version 👍. These changes help accuracy but also require much stronger fans which have increased the price of the build dramatically. This really wouldn't be an issue if it was my only project but........😅......many more ongoing projects is not helping lol.

@@Gamyrc glad you are doing this. I was going to do a project like this but have been avoiding it due to costs... I was looking at eagle tree pitot tube air speed sensors but they closed shop

@@Liberty.Francis The larger scale tunnel is at around 50-55mph right now. It's been extremely challenging to get the right dimensions for better flow. If the tunnel was round things would be much easier for "clean flow" but way harder to make the tunnel itself. A learning experience for sure! 😅☺️

@@Gamyrc I can imagine. I had scaled plans down and it still required a 15ft long build

Almost need to make a foam bottom that goes around those scales in there and acts like ground so there isnt so much airflow going underneath it. One thing that would be awesome to get some really fast air is a leaf blower, I know the backpak ones can get up to 215-230mph coming outta its nozzle. Even the small handheld ones can get some pretty high speeds too and are way cheaper to get ahold of.

I actually decided to make cutouts out of the bottom to sink scales in there. That makes it easy to cover if not using the scales and wont add turbulence that would be created by a reamp style cover for the scales. As for wind speed I am using a larger fan for auction. It has a claimed cfm number 10x that of the one I am using now. This would provide 100+ mph in a perfect world but since we don't live in a perfect world I expect at least a 25% loss due to the limited air being pulled by the larger fan through a smaller diameter tunnel. If this proves to be accurate I should end with around 75mph wind speed inside the tunnel. Even 50mph would give us great numbers to go by!

@@DurpVonFronz It was a just matter of time till someone had nothing better to do and just did it! Lol. Its actually looking like it will offer some really useful numbers once I get speed high enough. Honestly feeling relieved that it wasn't time wasted lol.

That's awesome to see it producing some rear downforce even at that low wind speed! I designed some small wheel cradles that I 3d printed for my scales that make it easier to get consistent positioning of the wheels on the scales. The scales seem really sensitive to how repeatable your positioning on each scale to get consistent results.

That's a great idea! Ill make some as well, it is a bit tricky to get perfect numbers for the videos when I have to move the vehicle repeatedly to make changes. Thanks!

@@Gamyrc Yeah that's what I found initially when trying to balance my Arrma Vendetta's weight distribution, every time I picked up the car to try and adjust shocks I'd get wildly different numbers every time I set the car back down. The cradles definitely helped make it more consistent. 👍

Just saw your video. I figured the stock esc wasn't involved in the 94mph run 😅. I went the same route, I am running an Arma setup from my Vendetta on it right now but will be moving to a beefier setup once that one maxes out on the 👍.

Yea. Once I feared it up the stick ESC just turned itself off. Guess I found the gear limit. Probably going to switch to mod 1 gears now…. I’m building my 917 as a dual setup with the delta plastiks phantom body. Thank you for watching… I appreciate that!🤜🤛

@@Rcprescription My plans for the 917 are to make it a quad motor setup. Not for actual speed runs but for looks. It should make for some nice YT views. Planning on making my own stretched chassis for it. But in reality I think the dual motor setup is more than perfect for these at this scale. I mean there are people running over 140mph with single motors already!

Correct, that is why I explained how I would make holes to fit the scales into so it would be on a flat floor 👍. Also, I know you put dyno but you meant to run in a wind tunnel so for those reading this that's what it was, no need to point it out 👍.
