I have two KL503 amps. One is the older version with the pill transistors and the second one is their later release of the same amp but using MOSFETS instead. Both of those amps can dead key a maximum dead carrier of 240 watts RMS. You would never want to run them at a continuous 240 watts but they will deliver a full 240 watts with a 13.8 volt /20 amp power supply. I run mine set at a 100 watt dead carrier on AM or FM and on AM you can expect to see around a 140 watt up to a 160 watt peak modulation in a normal speaking voice and if you whistle it will peak closer to the rated 240 watt output and the amp will run safe and cool. On SSB these amps can really shine provided you don't overdrive them. The KL405 in this video is a slightly smaller amp than the KL503 amp. The KL405 is rated at 200 watts so what you are showing there is pretty much spot on. That amp will run with no issues with a 100 watt dead carrier for FM or for AM and as long as you keep it cool it will last for years. For the price you can't beat these amps and if harmonics are a concern just run the amp through a filter.

My mobile setup consists of an FTdx10 and an RM HLA300V. I run that thing for hours on end and it never lets me down. Great amps for the money! I get around 250w and has auto band switching too (handy as i use it from 80m-10m) Very happy with it. Lee M0RQX

It would be interesting to see how it goes on a general coverage rig. They are marketed in the UK as a "3-30 MHz" amp and people do use them as such. I've never seen anyone look at power output/spectral purity across the wider spectrum though.

I have one of these and it is as dirty as all get out! For example, when Tx SSB on 40m from VK I can hear a perfect, strong SSB signal in a ZL SDR on the 10 Mhz band! But an external, switchable low pass filter cleans it up ok.

I have a President Mc Kinley around 18W not SSB out othe box & Midland 88 UK 40 & EU fm/am on Low power I am getting around 2.5W output not SSB. On the high power around 13.8W to 14.4W. not SSB Question if I put 14W or 28W into the RM KL405V - 3.6-30MHZ (200W) LINEAR AMPLIFIER (WITH PRE-AMP) will that be ok to run
