If you haven't seen part 1 where I break down the basics of RNAV and GPS see it here
• RNAV/GPS vs RNP | REAL...
Its one of the most requested topics I get asked about. RNAV vs RNP approaches, what are they? What is the difference? In this 2 part video sequence I am going to tailor all the knowledge a "sim pilot" will need to understand the fundamentals of both RNAV and RNP approaches. Hopefully by the time the videos are over you will have a much better understanding of this topic.

Really well made video. Most of our pilots and the aircraft we fly are authorised for RNP AR but we're still waiting for Operator approval. This seems to the future of airliner approaches at most airports especially for noise reasons. We allow AP to be used until 250ft AGL and FD can be used until touchdown for RNP AR. Some really good points made on this video.

Once again, many thanks for a very informative tutorial. If you really want to test out an XP aircraft's performance in RNAV,, then try the RNAV approach to Rwy 34 at Kelowna, Canada (CYLW) !!

Great videos on the RNAV/VNAV and RNP Approaches. I have a simple question, in X-plane how do you assign “autopilot off” function or do you simply use the red disconnect button on the joystick in the Airbus?

Hey V1, I was curious, I don’t know if it is aircraft or company specific, but what are the lateral and vertical tolerances for an RNP approach that you use in your everyday place of work?

I was forced to fly an RNP approach for the first time today. Never did one before. Your video helped me understand a lot more post flight. PS... your graphic are really good. What version of XP are you using, and is the scenery stock or addons?

Great stuff, again--though I have no weird aviation history to offer, this time. One quick question: Is there anything in the regs to bar hand-flying an RNP approach, either on the FD or even the deviation bars alone? Can the Bus even be configured that way--i.e. an RNP in the box but no FD bars up? I ask because The Mighty Dash (tm) can do RNPs, handflown--on the HUD or just FD.
@V1Sim
@V1Sim 3 жыл бұрын
That would be a specific company requirement, nothing in the "regs" however depending on the accuracy required for the approach, APs might be required, that's again one of those questions that's hard to "blanket statement" answer. Now I can tell you tho that the bus is fully capable of handling GPS approaches with the AP off and just following the FD (ie handflwon)

Thank you for the info, Let us say my Autopilot is failed, can I shoot this approach using only FDs?, or hand fly this kind of approach?, suppose AP CB popped out on mid of the approach, can I continue fly the aircraft safely on this approach?

it's a pity and FF haven't extended the RNAV facility to their other aircraft in the fleet. I tried the B757-200 v2 (Professional) on the CYLW Rwy 34 RNAV approach and it failed to capture anything!

Hello Capt why did you choose OP DES on the approch when managed DES is available? I belive as the ALT CONST are preset on the FMS so there by seleting a manage DES will take the a/c to appropriate alt const. Please enlighten me on this.
@V1Sim
@V1Sim 3 жыл бұрын
Just a technique, managed DES would work fine too however for descents below 10k typically I prefer open descent.

So RNAV(GPS) approach AND RNP approach are both GPS Approaches bases on internal computation of aircraft and gps . But the difference is RNP needs On board performance monitoring and alerting system for more accuracy . Am I right? Please clarify?

anyone know how to select rnp 13L jfk approach into the mcdu?
@tomstravels520
@tomstravels520 3 жыл бұрын
If for whatever reason your accuracy suddenly got worse exceeding the requirement do you get an ECAM caution of any kind. And then do you tell ATC you can’t continue with the approach?
@V1Sim
@V1Sim 3 жыл бұрын
Yes monitoring of the GPS is required. If you lose GPS PRIMARY on the MCDU the aircraft will alert you that the GPS has been downgraded in which case dependent on the situation you would go around. However it won’t be on the ECAM it will be in the MCDU and ND

So in fact, before recording this video I tried all 3 airbuses (FF Toliss FSL ) and the only one who simulated the L/dev was the Toliss. Now im note sure if the FSL 321 has any newer modifications or changes in its software but I dont own that one, just the base 320
