Arsenio, a classy guy in Hollyweird, rare thing, at least he gave them a chance to explain themselves, one of very few people who treated these two with decency. They were 18 when they signed the deal, like Rob says he came home from working at Wendys and Fab said we have a record deal, what would any 18 yr old in the world do, sign the deal. They were swindled, and Fab has a great voice, is a great singer. RIP Rob.

@@RosDC Wow! You people are forgetting that that this is a JOB. This is no different than lying on a resumee or taking credit for work you did not do. I do NOT blame Rob and Fab - the blame lies with their management who concocted the whole scheme. In more recent interviews, Fab talks about how they were essentially trapped into never being able to perform as themselves. So this did not do them any favors as far as them not being able to carve out their own identity in the industry. Rob would be alive today but he couldn't handle the back lash and lost opportunities this scandal created. It's never a good idea to misrepresent yourself no matter what you're involved in. You're leaving yourself open to people taking full advantage of you. Always be authentic!

Nah, Fab. Don't ya'll take the FULL blame on that. I love their appearance on Arsenio. You got to see their personalities come out more. I almost wish I could hug Rob in this video. He's so open and relaxed talking about working at Wendy's, his family, losing "friends". Plus, Rob just cracks me up when talks about "over night we got stardom and over night we went down." LOL. He's truthful. Also it takes a big person to acknowledge they were at some point obnoxious. :-)

Most people don't realize that after their major label kept the money and dumped them, they were only able to sign with a small independent label with no experience in the music biz. There were only a few thousand records available for purchase-- most, if not all of them sold. So, technically they were a success!

They only sold out at 2000 copies due to the fact that the small independent label they signed with was on their way out of business and had less resources than the ones at Arista Records. They sold out but didn't have enough to really make a comeback.

Rob was so cute. Poor guy, so sad what happened to him. He seemed like such a sweet person. Fab is in his late 40s now, but still looks exactly the same as he did back then, minus the braids. And btw, Arsenio is an ass, he made fun of them relentlessly even before the scandal, then he has them on the show just to mock them. What's even more sad about this video, is how poor Rob is pretending to joke and laugh when he in truth, he was very hurt by the things that people like Arsenio were saying in the media.

@@annalishagoring Agreed. What Rob and Fab are saying in this clip about it being their fault is not the whole truth. The real details were much more sinister and would come out later. They were tricked into signing a contract and made to believe they were recording tracks in the studio. It wasn't until the music was released that they realized it wasn't their voices. That's when they demanded an explanation and the cat was let out of the bag. They kept asking to be allowed to sing but once it was successful, the execs wouldn't let them. The music industry has always been crooked. To this day there are singers voices from demo tracks that make it to the final release while the celebrity gets all the credit. They probably didn't make as much money as you might think. Usually the songwriters get a huge cut and they didn't write those songs. Then of course the singer gets paid, but they didn't sing. The real Milli Vanilli (4 people) would have collected those checks. So Rob and Fab were essentially background dancers. I'm sure they made more money than your typical dancer but since they had to split the money with all these extra people, there probably wasn't that much left over.

It's really sad what happened to these 2 young men. I believe one of them even ended up committing suicide due to depression of what people can do and how cruel people can be they signed a contract they didn't know what they were getting into and they were forced by their Management team to lip sync the music . Let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone but it seemed like after that happened and they got caught society just destroyed them Arsenio Hall was the only person to give them a chance to make good and they really are good they really can sing so very sad. Rob and Fab God-bless you both I know one of you is no longer with us today but God-bless you both just the same!

@PopGracewood They did it because their producer had them sign a contract without managers or lawyers & without one of them being able to read it because he didn't know the language it was in. The producer never told them they were just going to be lip-synching at the time. He also gave them money which turned out to be recording advance money to support themselves since they were so poor at the time & they had to recoup it, so they really had no choice then but to lip-sync.

I was surprised also but I think it was only Rob who worked w/Farian again bc he was desperate. Fab managed to pull himself out of this..thank God. I am searching for their solo cd Rob & Fab and also Fab's solo cd Love Revolution. If you have any advice on where I could find these, I'd much appreciate it. Peace

@mizrhee1 Rob did not commit suicide. He became addicted to cocaine from when they became famous and went through rehab 11 times & finally OD'd from a toxic mixture of alcohol & prescription pills. He was very troubled though. He was biracial & adopted by very conservative Germans, ran away from home at 14 and his family completely wanted nothing to do with him when the scandal was revealed. Losing the fame & being mocked was hard for Rob because Milli was the only time he felt appreciated.

guys what happened was the music was made before rob and fab arrived frank was playing about with the milli style but after he seen rob and fab he asked them to be a part of it the guys thought as singers , but frank( producer & 5th member of boney m ) wanted them as dancers he also said the music was done do the work for the single i will let you sing on the next album he gave the guys money the contract was done and the boys were trapped and hit after hit the money comes in frank gets rich the backing singers get money the real singers get money rob and fab earn from it too and also there live appearances, no one expected the singles to do well but it is odd as after the first single the vocals chanced why did no one question that ? as its so obvious the guys could sing and fab can sing just as good as any of the real milli singers there was a 3rd album produced in 1996/7 featuring rob and fab back and in attack unreleased there is also a girl you know its true fully recorded track featuring rob and fab iv seen it on youtube before i have it and its great fab solo album is also great ... rip rob .

Their fans were assholes, they turned their back on them. I was never a fan. Thing that their fans and people should realize is, even though they were not singing, it takes a lot of talent, to dance the way they did, to create that image and to dress and look how they did. These guys had talent...you don't just turn your back on people. What they did then is no different from what you see going on today, so not sure why these guys were hated so much.
