I had to have this very same discussion with my parents because they constantly cried about not having the “freedoms” they used to have. So I asked “what freedoms have you lost?” …. I asked again “What freedom?… You mean the freedom to call gay people f*ggets and black people ni**ers? Is that the freedom you lost? They gave me the ugliest look of death I have ever seen on my parents faces because that was exactly it, they lost the ability to get away with making fun of minorities. They asked me to leave and didn’t get an invite back for a while, I clearly hit a nerve.

I had almost the identical argument with my parents back when trump won the election. "Finally, we're aloud to say whatever we want again", my father celebrated. After the smallest of pushback to explain what even one of those things were, I saw him shrink almost literally before my eyes. There really does seem to be a very distinct miles long gap in the conservative mindset between rhetoric heard or spoken and the feelings they personally feel.

It's hilarious to listen to two wealthy white men talk about the good old days of America. My mom is a Black woman who was born in the 1951 Arkansas. She remembers those "good old days" a little differently. Mainly her friend being abducted by the Klan, tortured, sexual violated, and left dead in a ditch. She then remembers the police ruling her death a suicide and not investigating. Man, those were the days.
@Malthiest

But that’s exactly what they mean when they say “the good ol’ days.” They mean when POC knew there place and were forced to accept it. They really think America is the freest country on earth. For who? For them, not us.

In 2015, Schneider fought against California Senate Bill 277, which removed exemptions to mandatory vaccinations due to personal beliefs, even leaving a phone message to California state Assemblywoman and bill co-author Lorena Gonzalez saying that he would spend money against her in her next re-election. Gonzalez, in an interview with The Washington Times, said that she found the message to be disturbing, but upon calling back, she said "he was actually much nicer to me, but let's be honest … that is 20 mins of my life I'll never get back arguing that vaccines don't cause autism with Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo --wiki

My guess: freedom back in the 70’s to them is the ability to not wear a seat belt, or have to put on a bike helmet when biking, or going on a panty raid in college, or smoking in a restaurant or plane, or many of the other “freedoms” they had back then before we figured out safety. Back in my day, “freedom” meant not being recorded by cameras on every block and capturing everywhere I go or everything I purchase. Times change.

@@luna-p oh that's the funniest thing to me. They love to bash celebrities and tell them to stay in their lane but then take like the 2 celebrities that agree with them and treat them as royalty. Ted Nugent was their favorite for years. Trump was Fox and Friend's favorite guest even before he ran for office, the way all the people who hated Kayne suddenly started simping during his maga phase. My favorite example was during BLM when Fox News went from "athletes should such up" untill Drew Brees made an ass of himself with his comment about taking a knee during the anthem. Then they praised Drew Brees for his "bravery" and treated him for a hero for a week untill some of his teammates reached out to him, explained the movement to him and then he came out in favor of it, then got pissed off at him and went right back to "such up and play". The obsession with celebrities feels like insecurity at times. They really want Hollywood to like then and are really hurt that it doesn't.

When you're young and do not live in bad neighborhoods, or live out in the country like I did, a lot of those atrocities do not affect you other than being on TV when your grandma watched Walter Cronkite, or your aunts getting letters from their husbands who were over in Vietnam.

The most telling part of this is that even now, in their safe space on Beck's show, among like minded people, they speak in generalities and coded language. They wink and nod ( and even cry) knowingly at each other while utterly failing to actually say what they want to. AND they do all this while boasting of their bravery, comparing themselves to WW2 soldiers that risked their lives. They are not even brave enough to speak the truth, but they want everyone else to see them as heroes fighting the darkness. Sorry, the real darkness resides in their hearts and minds. While they clutch their pearls the world burns but all they can see is their own personal aggreivement. I also wonder at the awareness level of a man telling war stories about the undeniable bravery of WWII soldiers while supporting a president that ran away from service due to phony bone spurs. If Trump was one of those pilots he would have bolted and then sued the military. By the way, my wife actually has bone spurs, spends hours a day on her feet at work, is a Latina immigrant to the USA, and is more brave than any of these macho phony patriots.

I'll never understand when people like these guys complain about loss of freedom and then politically align on every issue with the oppressors. The things keeping people from being free today are, imo, cost of healthcare, cost of higher education (trade schools included), mass incarceration (specifically, targeting Black and Brown people), and complete lack of anything resembling freedom or representation in the workplace. The reality is these people are just upset they can't use slurs in public anymore.

I'm 63 years old. Life seemed so much simpler during the late 60's and 70's because I was a naive kid. There was a lot of bad things happening; the war in Viet Nam, back alley abortions killing young girls, discrimination of POC on a system level. All this things I did not concern myself with at the time because I was a KID. From a kid's perspective, looking back, sure it might have seemed idyllic but the reality is it was a time of change and turmoil. For Schneider to wax poetic about the days gone by with his rose colored glasses on is the epitome of white privilege blindness. The US is constantly forming a more perfect union. Just because you are in that lucky club you shouldn't forget about those who are not...and question why that is.

if you look at their body language and demeanor you can tell both rob and glenn correctly recognize their conversation has gone of the rails and reduced to incoherent gibberish but neither one of them has the courage or the respect for the audience to just stop filming they just keep going on.

I feel comedians like Schneider had to pivot hard because a lot of his comedy was using stereotypes. The moment he couldn't be a china men or a Pancho illegal Mexican, his career tanked. the only person willing to hire him is Sandler during one of his grifts

What are you talking about? I liked Adam Sandler from many of his early movies, but have never spent a single second thinking about or been interested to learn about anything else to do with him or his personal life. And if there's ever been anything notable regarding any of it, I never heard about it. Never paid any attention to him or cared to know anything about his political views if he even had them. I never had the sense there was anything to miss, but apparently that's not the case because I have no clue what grifts you are talking about.. So, what did I miss?

@@jsmith3798 iirc without touching too much on the quality of his movies, Adam Sandler has his own production company by now; he doesn't just earn his fee as an actor, he runs the whole show - the entire budget runs through him and he tends to hire the same core cast of his friends. All of those movies have had pretty large budgets, and yet some have come out looking like it was a High School project. All that to say there is a lot of room for financial tricks to take money from the project into his own pockets. I have no idea why investors put up with it, but I guess if he does the occasional banger its fine? Or maybe his name carries enough clout to make even his worst trash eek out a profit. As for Jack and Jill, its a pretty infamously trash movie made by his company, where apart from playing Jack, also plays his twin-sister Jill. Its just all-around embarassing. At least with the crossdressing, you'd think it could have some Crowder fans, but not even they like Jack and Jill.

I feel like the the 9/11 highjackers we're inspired by Rob Schneider. "You can do eet!" Also it's hilarious that he feels the oppression today. He's literally the biggest throw away person ever, and he did it in Hollywood so he's had a very very charmed life. I guess this is him letting us know, he doesn't just act crazy. He's literally out of his fucking head.
