And nine times out of ten, they're running away for a reason. A _good_ reason!! Like, they're being neglected and abused, type of reason. Yes, there will ALWAYS be the case of the spoiled brat who's only reason for running away is because they don't wanna follow curfew rules or some shit, but that's *QUICKLY* resolved. So take every.single.runaway *_SERIOUSLY_* - IT'S WORTH IT!!!

MaddyTalks...Absolutely!!! I have never understood why a child being perceived as a runaway automatically makes it not important to find the child. With that logic a “missing” 6 year old needs to be found but apparently a 6 year old runaway is perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. Authorities seem to use it as an excuse but don’t see the irony in their statement. Plus if a child is running away that could be a completely different cause for concern, many times they run for a reason!

This is so so sad. I had a friend in 7th grade who kept getting in trouble for missing school and when he would show up to school they would give him in school suspension for missing days like what why how do you think this helps. He hated getting in trouble and got so desperate that one day he took his moms car and drove himself to school. I actually saw him pull up and the vice principal freaked out. They finally figured out he wasn’t lying when he said his mom was addicted to heroin and literally wouldn’t wake up or get out of bed to take him to school. School administrators picked him up for school for the rest of the year and he never missed a day after that. My heart breaks for bonzai. His potential to be so great showed every time he was in a positive environment and the adults in his life failed him so horribly 💔 this literally could have been my friend from 7th grade. My husband got truancy in high school because his parents were going through a very messy divorce and he was depressed. He literally wouldn’t get out of bed and just sleep for 22 hours a day. They sent him to court and then they sentenced him to juvie. Mind you, this is a kid who has never been in trouble at all and is actually in need of help but the state was more concerned with getting that attendance check. Rather than going to juvie he dropped out and got his GED. To this day, he regrets that time more than anything but it just shows how the state fails kids. CPS honestly lets so many children stay in homes that they shouldn't be in. I had a friend whose dad sexually abused her and her sisters, got charged for it, and her mom kept letting him back in the house. Her mom was also an alcoholic and all-around not a good mother. CPS got involved many times, but none of the kids were ever taken away for an extended period of time. I had another friend whose dad physically abused him and didn't feed him enough, plenty of people tried to get involved (teachers, neighbors, people at their church), but the situation was the same. I don't blame individual CPS workers, because from my understanding, they're very overworked and underpaid and usually don't even have the resources to help as much as they need to. I'm sure some of them are apathetic, but I know that some of them do truly care and want help these children. But the system is broken.

It seems like child protective services fail countless children because they’re so understaffed. They all say they can’t possibly check on these children accordingly because their caseload is so massive(I have aunts who work for CPS and they say this is absolutely a fact) so I will never understand why more money isn’t instantly thrown at this issue. Hire as many workers as we need to, to ensure that every single child is okay.. No not even one child should fall through the cracks of the system because they’re overworked. It’s absolutely psychotic that this continues to happen every single day...

My daughter was taken from me once because my husband told someone he smacked her on the butt softly over her diaper for touching an outlet. He reiterated he never spanked her or beat her he just patted her butt to tell her hey! No! Bad! But they then opened a case and lied and told lie after lie and even tried pinning us against each other and our families. They came in and took her from us and lied in every which way and didn’t give us the resources we needed. They held her for 3 months and she changed drastically. She went from a very happy outspoken child to a very timid quiet child. It was one of the most horrible times in my life ever. To this day I am so fear full of that ever happening again over something so insignificant

@@littlejogger95 correct, that's what it stands for. Depending where you are in the US, CPS is also used interchangeably. It stands for Child Protective Services. I know that where I live in Georgia, DFCS usually refers to the building that houses the services, and CPS is usually a case manager or whoever works with the family/child. So it's like "I am going to DFCS today to talk with my CPS manager for any updates." Sorry for being long winded. Hope this helps a little! Just curious, what are they called in the UK?

I truly don't believe his mother loved him at the state she was. I don't doubt she wanted him there, I don't even doubt she needed him there to feel she wasn't in such a bad state. Like, he is still there right? I can't be doing everything wrong, right? I understand love is selfish, but love should also make want to be everything but. Addiction is such a horrible thing, and I feel for her in that regard, but no amount of compassion I have for her in that part of her life is going to make me believe she had the right to put her son through hell because she "loved" her son. And this doesn't take from the sheer neglect the child protective services but fuck... that kid deserved much better than his mother's "love"

Some peoples demons are extremely strong and they can’t fight off that addiction. I feel bad for her but I’m also so angry she wouldn’t let him be where he was happy and healthy with his sister. Alyse A Im so glad you are sober and i hope you still find the strenght to keep being so for a long long time! But thats also my point... love also implies the fact you want the best for someone, or at least implies you WANT to feel you are putting them as a priority. I do get addiction, in the awful spiral it puts you, and how blinding it can be, pushed her to over look his needs... but exactly thats why i do believe she didnt really “love” him completely... she loved her lifestyle and addiction more. I dont believe she loved him in a full sense. She wanted him, i can even believe she cared for him.... but thats not enough for any child. We both agree her “needs” or “wants” shouldnt have come before the safety and proper development of her child, and thats why i feel saying that she loved him is incorrect. She should have wanted to be better for him, and addiction was her demon, and not one to put on her poor kid

However, as time went by and the parents were now raising 3 little kids they became angry with their deceased daughter as they realized that due to drug use, the kids had been put in harm's way and one of them was sexually abused. It's so tragic. Also, the system stinks: look at Bonzai being bullied and as you stated, "No one knew what was going on." HOW? I have worked in schools, the teachers and school nurse IMMEDIATELY know when something isn't right at home: kids have lice and bed bugs and have bruises and all of that kind of thing, including wearing the same clothes. Jenna Riden It’s very difficult to falsify seizures enough to be put on medication, they do MRIs , CTs to see brain activity and run a series of test while you’re hooked up to the device. In some cases mild seizures may not show up on scans but this wouldn’t be diagnosed as Epilepsy and you wouldn’t normally be put on medication.
@holliegriffin5361
@holliegriffin5361 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe at all that having some vague connection to a family allows you to determine whether or not someone had a neurological disorder. There are so many ways to diagnose epilepsy with the most common being EEG to detect electrical activity. It’s kind of hard to fake something that requires such extensive research. Seizures can be incredibly dangerous so they usually go quite in depth. Especially when they need to detect the type of epilepsy and whether or not it could be connected to genetic diseases, an active illness, etc. Also, the occurrence of epilepsy is relatively common with 1 in 26 people developing it in their lifetime, which is especially apparent in children. 2/3 sufferers will become seizure-free once on medication, making it appear “cured” with over 50% “growing out of” their condition. These rumours don’t help at all when discussing a murder case. Even if it were for attention, that wouldn’t change anything. We know he’s neglected and a high risk with or without that information. Plus, with his supposed use of drugs, that too makes it more likely he could have had epilepsy with 1/10 cases being linked to drugs. On top of that, children of mothers who use drugs and children growing up with trauma and stress are much, much more likely to have seizure disorders. Long story short, only his doctor will know and that’s all that matters. He is in a high risk category and based on what we know and how the diagnosis process works, it is more likely than not that he does indeed have it. Regardless if his family believes him or not, if his results concluded he has it, he probably does have it.

If Lisa actually loved her son she would have let him live with Stephanie until she got her sh*t together. Period. I understand her going through a dark place okay that explains why her house is a terrible environment for him I understand that. But living a trash hole because you are going through a dark place and forcing your child to live in a trash hole for no reason at all when there's a better safer place for him to be are two entirely different things. You can claim you love your kid all you want but if you then take him from a happy healthy stable environment to live in a trashed drug house where your ex boyfriend threatens to KILL him on a daily basis it's clear you don't actually love him. You don't treat people you love like that. No. I don't accept that and I don't accept mental illness as an excuse for her behavior. This probably sounds heartless but I'm so sick of people like this hiding behind a mental illness as an excuse for child abuse and neglect. You can be mentally ill and a wonderful parent even if that means recognizing you aren't healthy enough to raise your child and sending to live with someone who is. That is what someone who loves their child would do. Her actions speak far louder than her words and my heart breaks for this poor little boy

I completely understand what you’re saying, and you aren’t wrong, but unless I’m mistaken she said the lock was only accessible from the inside, and I️ grew up in a very old ranch style house and the only way to access the lock was from the inside AND with a key, we didn’t have a deadbolt we could flip, you’d have to get the key off the hook on the wall (next to the door) and unlock it that way. However, we got our home assessed before we sold it and because both doors were on the first floor anyway, and any window is accessible as they all actually led right on to a wrap around porch or were close enough to the ground to jump out, it passed. I’m not saying it’s the BEST design, that’s for sure. But it WOULD pass inspection.

@ShayLikeButter 3 жыл бұрын
@Maggie Cloud Nah, you don't completely understand at all because you're missing her point. This isn't about locks. If there was a fire (even if your doors were locked), you had two doors and windows on the main floor of your farm house for you to get to safety. So you had a minimum of FOUR escape options............ But if they went to sleep with the ONE door locked and a fire blocked that door, *all* the windows were boarded up and the back door nailed shut, which means there was no other escape out of the house. All that piled up junk would cause a fire to spread extremely fast as well. So no, it definitely wasn't up to code and no child should have been legally allowed to live there.

The parents love their children and worked very hard to clean their home and change hoarding behaviors, and attended every class & therapy required them. DCS works very hard for reunification, and in this case the family was thankfully put back together in a healthier and safer way (which is the true goal of foster care). I am absolutely disgusted in Lisa's behaviour. People need to stop and think at least for a second before bringing a child into this world. I don't believe she loved him or cared for him in the least bit. Addiction and mental health are serious issues and at times can be out of one's control, but never does that give anyone the right to harm a child in the way Lisa did. There were so many different avenues to take if she truly loved him, she could have let him stay with Stephanie while she got herself together a bit. But the fact that she always wanted him back only tells me she was on a power trip, feeling like she had some sort of entitlement over Bonzai when she didn't because she never took care of him. I feel no sympathy for her and hope she lives out the rest of her days thinking about her beautiful son and what he could have been and how disgusting her actions were. My heart aches for Bonzai. The 'living' conditions were horrendous and inspections DCF did were a complete joke. This case frustrates me so much.

This case disgusts me, the state disgusts me, the mother disgusts me. Bonzai deserved so much love. He had such a long life to live, and so many adventures that he was prevented from taking.

The way Bonzai lived is incredibly similar to the way I lived when I was 14-16. My mom left when I was 2 and my dad was doing his best to try and raise two kids by himself. Unfortunately with the work he was doing (diesel mechanic, semi’s specifically) there was a lot of drug influence around him and he got caught up in it. At this point we moved in to what my brother and I call the trap house. It was basically a concrete structure that sometimes had power and to get food we had to start a tab at the local corner store that either my dad or me and my brother would pay at the end of the week. I don’t remember having a washer and a dryer? Maybe there was and I just don’t remember it. I barely went to school. Since then my dad has completely turned his life around and luckily we all came out alive. I somewhat feel for Lisa because I watched my dad go through the same drug and living situations. I hope she can find the strength to better her life moving forward.

There is something I learned in intro psychology that says: when other people are difficult we attribute it to a flaw in character. When we are difficult or make mistakes, we think of the reasons we did that. It actually changed my life thinking of this regularly. Instead of immediately being like "that person is an assh*le" im like "they must be upset about something" or "maybe they have a disorder" and im a bit more empathetic now. Bonzai never had a chance, ive been around people raised in similar situations and its really heartbreaking. He seemed to have a lot of personality and spunk. Poor kid:( rest in peace little man.

It wasn’t just for the check, Stephanie said she would allow her to keep the check and was keeping her power on. I am NOT a parent (and really hope I am not going to be attacked for this), but depending on Lisa’s childhood there is a chance was too attached. And her house was probably horrible because she was a hoarder, a lot of whom have severe OCD and attachment disorders. I say all of this as a reforming hoarder. I realized what my issues was. As a child, I was very poor and we did not have a lot. I also did not have many friends, still don’t actually. So everything I had I wanted to hold on to. When I was a tween, as a punishment my parents took EVERYTHING out of my room except my bed, desk and dresser. They threw away all of my childhood memories. At that point, I hid everything. And this went on for 20 years. Then I became homeless five years ago and was only able to take the things that were really important. It sucks that becoming homeless is what started my “recovery”. I say started because of the stuff I took over half was ruined. I was able to move into a place 3-1/2 years ago and while I admit I do still hoard some things, I can honestly say as I am packing to move into my own place again. I don’t have much. A dresser, two desk, plants, pets, a lamp and some boxes that hold the contents of my hobbies. I am inheriting a nightstand, dining room table with chairs, coffee table, side tables, another lamp and other miscellaneous stuff my roommate no longer wants. Unfortunately, I do not have a bed, couch, chairs or any other furniture. But I’ll get there.

The Country Fails these voiceless children everyday, i am one me and my brothers were pretty much just abandoned by our parents we were taken away for the same reasons as Bonzai except our mother didnt care and never tried to get us back she let the system keep us she is a devil on earth abounded by her and the system and the system how can we put so much money into other organizations but leave actual human beings at the most innocent levels abandoned and forgotten how??? I dont get it and it breaks my heart EVERYDAY i have lost not 1 but 2 brothers to death they were addicts at a young age and lost thier battles with this horrible sickness 2 years apart from eachother and another brother who is serving 17 years for crimes because they never got help they needed they were just given medication to make them zombies then given a 270$ check when they turned 18 and thrown on their butts the system is broken!!!! I was thankfully adopted at the age of 5 by amazing parents but i was a cute little girl and my brothers were preteen boys they are less likely to be adopted or placed in a long term home because cute little kids are easier to place but the real tragedy is these young men and women are just forgotten just forgotten. Who is fighting for them ?? No one not one person. This is a tragedy.

No child should ever have to live like that .. He was let down by too many people 😔 Parents ...Teach your children to have empathy for other children .. if your child teases another child because of the way they dress /smell then thats on you for bad parenting ... If you as a parent knows your child is bullying another ...put a stop to it ..! Pack extra in your child's lunch if you know of a child in your child's class not having food at school .. The P&C should have spare (emergency clothes/uniforms for those children who obviously aren't wearing clothes that are being regularly laundered ... Lead by example Poor boy . heartbreaking 💔
