Schumann did not write too many indications on the score, as a way to suggest more freedom for the performer. Sometimes when the hand is too small or finger can't reach the ranges it's easier to go staccato, so you do not have to hold the stretches. Maybe the pianist had other motivations. I would say that it would sound better faster with the staccato, this recording is rather slow, not necessarily uninteresting, but rather conservative in the end and forgettable (sorry). I prefer Argerich and Youri Egorov with this Op7.
