The pianist seemed to have taken extra pains to acknowledge the fact that this was composed originally for and was played on the harpsichord. The extraordinary light touch achieved by the pianist successfully reminds us that the intimate atmosphere of the harpsichord is seamlessly carried here on the modern piano. I felt that the pianist had succeeded in marrying the best of both instruments here and achieved textures that were not otherwise possible on the harpsichord. A charming and most sensitive treatment of an oft-recorded work. Rameau would have beamed with a great deal of pride and given his nod of approval...

I normally prefer a good harpsichord for this excellent suite, but this piano version is completely satisfying and utterly brilliant; many thanks for this treat.

@@djmotise Exactly - he is a master composer whose works are not heard every day because of the ignoramuses that have infiltrated the 'profession' and have decided what should and should not be played, thus depriving potential listeners of a treasure trove of glorious music.

Outside France, he's sometimes better known as a theoretician (his "Traité de l'harmonie"/"Treatise on harmony" is still valuable 300 years after it was written --- and still in print as as Dover paperback)

👏👏👏Fantastic, God give me ears to listen to Sergei playing Rameau, created such an atmosphere, great respect to the music and to the original instrument it was written for, one of the very very few piano performances that makes it sound just nicer than in the harpsichord, perfect balance and taste. One of the most beautiful suites ever composed played divinely❤❤❤

At the end of the 90s I had an honour to talk to Vladimir Nielsen after one of his last public performances. He beautifully played some works of Couperin as an encore and I asked him if he really thinks Couperin and Rameau would chose piano if they had one. He looked at me and said "young man, ....there is no doubt about it." He was so firm in his saying and since then often recall this moment and also having heard it from such a musician... I have had doubts about this since then and kept thinking about it every now and then .... Now I do not have any.... Your playing si absolutely stunning and so convincing with such deep insight into the nature of french baroque music! Thank you so much! Anton Birula

What a great story. Thank you! He reaffirmed what I have long figured must be the answer. But you were right and brave to ask! Beethoven, for a good example, did not choose to score for any technology that had been surpassed. The Emperor is a piano!

Really well played, a joy to listen to! Rameau's music has this “vitality” to it. To me, it sounds fresh, alive and breathing, especially considering it is Baroque style. Very human sounding… Add to that, how the music is insanely well-balanced structurally. Further, it can be simple, yet quite complex. Needless to say, great rhythms are pretty much a given and the harmony is quite rich, which leads to it sounding extremely satisfying and pleasing. He was a genius, that simply knew when, what and how things should happen. Nonetheless, there are times when it can get wild and passionate - exactly how I love my music! They are completely unrelated and this is just my personal feeling, but the qualities are similar to those that draw me to Beethoven. I know Rameau is very acclaimed these days, still I feel like he is extremely underrated, particularly here in Germany…

Rameau, slowly but surely is making his way into the Pantheon of Greats. He is at least the equal of Scarlatti as a keyboard master. Immediately recognisable, he brought music a form of French elegance and courtship which particularly touches us today. More so than Couperin who dazzles is but less moving to my ear. This young man is right on. Also listen to Vikingur who excels in Rameau.

Sergey Tanin’s pianism and balance is absolutely sublime and his seamless ornamentation securely virtuosic. A fine piano rendition of beautiful harpsichord music. Light, and truly refreshing.

cuesta imaginar como sonaba Rameau en clavecín...obviamente el Piano lo dulcifica, pero evidentemente es un músico que se escapa de los canones de su período, lejos de sus pares. Felicitaciones al pianista , delicadísimo, sutil.....

Sin duda el clavecin agrega ese hermoso toque antiguo y brillante en sus cuerdas rasgadas a diferencia del piano forte..sin duda en piano se siente mas contemporáneo que barroco.
