Teach your dog the FREE command is a great video that covers what we don't teach and that is the STAY... The STAY is implied by teaching the release. This makes for a much better trained dog because the dog understands that he has to stay until released.
In this short video we cover the entire topic. For more full length dog training videos visit my members only section at RobertCabral.com

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Robert Cabral is easily the best dog trainer I’ve seen. Clear and functional instructions, but also gets into the dogs mindset. Your training has taken my relationship with my dog to levels I didn’t think possible. Hardly a show dog, but most certainly fun and (mostly!) obedient. I’ve recommended you to all th doggy gang that I meet at the park. They all love your videos.

About the same time you posted this, we found his videos on prong collars. Concise and to the point. The dogs on his videos look up to him as the leader of the pack. After watching quite a few vids it is fairly obvious that he knows exactly what he's doing.

wow. I'm getting a GSD puppy in October, partly inspired by you (I just lost my rottie of 10.5 years in July). Funny seeing you here as I prepare for my new puppy. I found your channel bc I wanted to take my rottie bushcraft camping with me, but we never went. I'll definitely make sure to make it a normal part of my GSD's life.

The release training tip is brilliant. I'm retraining my Rottweiler using it and he now waits for the ok and light tap on the nose before moving from sit or down. He thinks it's more fun as well. Thank you Robert.

Your videos are absolutely superior. I'm glad we found them just now as we will be getting a new member of the family in about 10 days, a German Shepherd puppy. Our loving and dear GSD, Andor, left us forever 3 months ago, after 12 marvelous years. We trained Andor with the help of a trainer and he was the perfect dog. We hope to achieve the same with our new puppy, Halgrim. Thank you for these wonderful videos with so many useful tips.

how long the session should be and how many times a day should i do it?
@kurai_sen7065
@kurai_sen7065 5 жыл бұрын
Puppies have a very tiny attention span, so no more than 30 minutes is recommended, but it's more likely that they'll start losing interest within 15. So keep the sessions short and fun, and if your dog is a pet and not a working/obedience dog, then 15 minutes a day should be enough to tire them out. Remember to keep them fun. We hated school for a reason, don't let that happen to your dog.

I was wondering if you could do a video about working with more then one dog at a time during training. I have one dog that's very well trained but a puppy that is 100% reliable when training alone, but only about 50% when my other dog is there.

Keep training with the other dog around. It’s called proofing and you need to proof in all locations.
@TeslaNick2
@TeslaNick2 5 жыл бұрын
Even when focussed on one dog, you are training both. The game for the non-participant is to wait patiently and not interfere. So you ask the non participant to "down" on his "place" and for every reward the dog you're focussed on gets, the other dog (who's waiting patiently) gets one. You might need to start by back tying the non participant or putting him behind a baby gate etc. Always make a point of letting the non participant know he's doing a good job when he's waiting patiently.

I just bought an 11month old GSD. He was started in obedience but the previous owners had health problems and had to give him up. He will platz and sitz right away, but immediately get up. How do I teach him to stay in the position until released? Thanks in advance.

I have a 6 mo old malinois. He's great. I don't have all the time I'd like to work on him. But I do my best. My question is. He follows me everywhere. If I'm around. He is by my side. I won't lie. I love it. But I'd like to bring him more places. We do alot outside. Bikeing. Walks. So if I need to go in a gas station and can't bring him in. He goes nuts soon as I leave. He totally freaks out. Is there anything I can do to make him not freak out if I go around the corner. Thanks. All ur vids really helped so far.

Hey Robert do you think I should use a word like stay? Instead of learning him that sit automatically means stay
@TeslaNick2
@TeslaNick2 5 жыл бұрын
I don't see any point. By teaching the implied stay, you only need one cue and not two. I teach both "down" and "sit" as implied stays (only break when released) and a separate "wait" cue which means stay in that location in whatever position you like until released. "Wait" is easy because you can train it at every doorway, gate, exit/entrance, every day and the reward for waiting is the release. So where "down" and "sit" are positional, "wait" is geographical.

Question on Duane and lets say his "manners". Obviously hes a pup and is excitable etc.. but you allow him to jump on you. Is this because you are really focusing on building the relationship and will discourage it later in his life?
@RobertCabralDogs
@RobertCabralDogs 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. People spend too much effort squashing puppy play and you end up with a flat dog. That’s fine if it’s just to be a pet, but we will compete with him and therefore want to channel the energy. Plenty of time to shift this later.
@kurai_sen7065
@kurai_sen7065 5 жыл бұрын
@@RobertCabralDogs can you make a video on this too? While puppy play is adorable and I don't want to squash it, any dog I get will be a pet, and once they grow they may cause injury. What do you think we should do? Reward when they're on all fours and ignore otherwise?
@TeslaNick2
@TeslaNick2 5 жыл бұрын
I take the attitude of allowing my dogs to express themselves without fear of reprimand and simply moderate obnoxious behaviour once they've learned the rules. By showing them what TO DO instead of what NOT TO DO, I build lots of confidence and a dog who's seeking opportunities to do the right thing.

that dog is not for most owners: he is a 'handful' and most owners will not train a dog. So he would never get what he needs from mist owners and would be abandoned in a shelter. It is up to the owner to get training for a dog.... get help from a pro and stop making excuses. Keep yoir dog safe on a line/leash: he is a lower animal and is closer to a fox or wolf or coyote than to a great ape. No animal is close to a human.

I'd also say that Duane looks more like a high energy working line lab, the kind that was bred to work, the original, so to say. Yeah, I agree, that most regular owners (me included) couldn't handle his high energy, and would rather get a dog from a breeder who breeds lower energy and drives. But these videos are still a great source to understand how their brains work and to foster your relationship
