Reviewing more of the albums you suggested that I review based on your comments from a previous video. This is the second part of a series, so if you requested an album review and it's not in this video, chances are it will be in a future one. I review albums from Bob Dylan, Pete Brown & Piblokto, Echo & The Bunnymen, Pere Ubu, Billy Joel, and more! Something happened with the video processing during the Mike Love review and it looks lower quality.

Heaven Up Here is one of the very best Echo lps. Their 1st four are all great and totally deserve to be heard. Crocodiles, Heaven,Porcupine and Ocean Rain. All fabulous. Id also throw in their double lp of BBC sessions. An argument could be made its their best lp! I kid you not.

DEFINITELY check out "Datapanik" or the mid-'80s collection called "Terminal Tower," which compiles the self-released singles they did before "Modern Dance," with original guitarist Peter Laughner (another rock 'n roll casualty). That stuff is arguably the best material they ever did. Unlike anything else going on in 1975, for sure.

Enjoying these reviews 👍🏻I’d make a suggestion but I think with over 50 you probably have plenty, ha. A Bob Dylan “Desire” story… You mentioned the song Sarah. There is an awkward moment in the studio with Dylan singing “Sarah”. He and her were having really bad issues around this time. Sarah happened to be there, or irrc Dylan invited her to the session, when Bob was recording the song. She had no idea he was going to do this “win her over” song and sing it to her through the studio glass. Needless to say she was nonplussed by this and it was one of those weird Dylan moments.

Big Pere Ubu fan. Yes, Pere Ubu did eventually go in a pop direction. Their most successful poppy Ubu album would be Cloudland from 1990. Their other poppish albums are kind of boring tbh, but since 1995 they have reverted to being a more avant rock band. Incidentally, The Art of Walking was probably their weirdest.

😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks for reviewing ‘Ramases’, that was the reaction I was hoping you would give. Yes! Check out the other 2 album’s I recommend, I think you’ll get a kick out of them. One was Daniel Johnston Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities, Johnston also spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The album for you to check out is ‘1990’, that one was more produced and he has a backing band supporting him. The other record was Barry Louis Polisar’s ‘my brother thinks he’s a banana’, he writes really clever and interesting children songs, if Bob Dylan was a children’s entertainer this is what he would sound like. Oh! I actually did a review on my channel for that record, it was my daughter’s holy grail record, I did a reaction video for it. I know you have a lot of recommendations already and probably backed up, but if you get a chance give it a listen, you don’t have to respond in a video, but like I said you’ll get a kick out of them. Nice to see someone else besides me talk about Pere Ubu. They have a back catalogue of about 30 albums, so if you're going to explore further, here are some suggestions. Avoid New Picnic Time and The Art of Walking LPs, unless you are into really out there avant garde, I found those two albums hard to listen to. The 2nd album Dub Housing is just as good as the first. In the 90s, they made an attempt at going commercial, and made 2 albums of twisted pop tunes, Worlds in Collision and The Story of my Life, both worth a listen at least. Their later albums are interesting, especially Carnival of Souls, and The Tenement Year, and there's also a compilation of their early singles titled Terminal Tower. Sorry to ramble on about Ubu, but they are such a unique band and one of my hometown favorites. And definitely check out Echo and the Bunnymen's Crocodiles.

Pere Ubu are one of my favourite bands, I have everything by them. I don't know how to describe them. They are not World music, for me they didn't seem to be weird to get into because I got into them via a main man David Thomas solo album which on reflection is bloody weird but I didn't know that at the time as until I was 9 I listened only to classical music and so I knew nothing of modern music. My number 1 David Thomas tune is the same one that I've loved since I first heard his music aged 9 "Happy To See You". Pere Ubu played in Leeds, England on November 21st the day before my birthday and they took a break because they were going to be doing an avant garde jam later on the stroke of midnight. My birthday is November 22nd and in the downtime I got talking to the wife of David Thomas and when I bought his book she went ""David, don't be such a grump, it's his birthday - go sign it for him." He sighed with the weight of the world on his shoulders and said "I'm only doing this because she told me to". I said would it be okay if he wrote "I was so happy to see you" even though it would be our in joke that he was plainly far from happy to see me. That made him smile, he wrote exactly what I asked and even added in a doodle of his profile and told me that if he ever saw my copy of his book up for sale there would be death squads after me

I'm from England and Billy Joel is someone that was never on my radar, there was nothing at all in his music that I was capable of relating to. I did a school exchange in 1992 (my Grammar School was founded in 1492 same year as Columbus sailed the ocean blue and so they figured they could ship us over for a bit and get some peace). My school family I did the exchange with are my folks and remain my adopted family that I go over every time I have a holiday. Billy Joel simply doesn't work in England - my folks are in upstate NY and it was only driving around with them with Billy Joel on the stereo as we were doing this exchange that I understood the openness in the music and I really appreciate you not being a Billy Joel hater as my adopted driving back to Wallkill from a night out in NYC with "Captain Jack" on the car stereo followed by Elton's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is enough to start a religion

Okay Robert I can tell how high The Beach Boys rate with you and that’s okay. I know many others who would agree and disagree. But this suggestion is an attempt to drag you a little closer to my side and this is no joke. Try Dennis Wilson’s solo album Pacific Ocean Blue released in 1977. While the BB influences are there esp with the vocal harmonies this is a 1970’s slice of pure LA vibe more in the vein of Fleetwood Mac than Laurel Canyon. It’s gritty and smooth at the same time. If you are reluctant then read the Allmusic review first. I bought it when it was first released and it’s still in my rotation today. One more suggestion: If you can stream through your audio system then listen to it from there starting with River Song.

Echo and the Bunnymen are one of my favorite 80's bands, but I prefer their first album "Crocodiles" and their fourth, which is their masterpiece "Ocean Rain". Another great 80's album is "The Days of Wine and Roses" by the Dream Syndicate, this album, their first was released the same year as The Violent Femmes 1st album and on the same record label. Where the Violent Femmes is an acoustic version of the Velvet Underground, The Dream Syndicate is a more loud psych version of the VU. A great album that you probably never heard but need to, is, "Under the Bushes Under the Stars" by Guided By Voices from 1996. Excellent! David Thomas from Pere Ubu used to be lead singer in a band called Rocket From the Tombs. When Thomas quit the band to form Pere Ubu, the rest of the band got a new singer, Stiv Bators and formed the Dead Boys. The Dead Boys first single, "Sonic Reducer" was originally recorded by Rocket From the Tombs with David Thomas on vocals.

Echo And The Bunnymen - you have nailed it Robert, get the debut "Crocodiles", it's by far and away their best and "Heaven Up Here" can't hold a candle to it. The lead singer is a bit full of himself and last time I saw him he was doing a Solo gig with Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds (lovely guy but so boring, I'm a record nerd and I was surrounded by record nerds and even though he was lovely, nobody wanted to talk to the other Ian that wasn't the Mac) Ian McCullough, the lead singer of The Bunnymen is a bit full of himself but we got talking and he seemed to like what I said and told me to walk with him as he was in a bit of a hurry. He asked me what did I think of the show and I said that it was great but I felt a bit cheated, I didn't mean to say it but I have no pause button. Ian went from being lukewarm to cold as ice and went "why did you say that, you know I don't like criticism" to which I replied that it was listed as an Ian McCullough gig and yet you did mostly Bunnymen songs and I have seen The Bunnymen countless times was wanting to hear his solo work and especially the track "Start Again". I got given a limited edition hardback book that Ian dedicated to me personally after we talked about our Dad's - and no, it is not up for sale - no money could buy that.

You do know the Rolling Thunder "documentary" is satirical, don't you? I know plenty of people who bought the whole thing as true. Scorsese wanted to do his own Dylanesque put on and failed. The concert footage is spectacular, but I can barely watch the rest. I find it embarrassing. I wish they had made an actual documentary about the tour and the Renaldo and Clara movie.

Yes, but I've heard the makeup being inspired by Kiss in other places. The whole Sharon Stone part of the movie was just strange.

Such a great album.. was listening to “Thousands on a Raft” per this video and it instantly came to mind as likely “up your alley.”

Also, if you are still taking requests... Smiley Smile by the Beach Boys. And this is not just another Pet Sounds joke. Smiley Smile is now being REAPPRAISED as a lost classic after being thought of as a jumbled mess for decades. However, I still think it's a jumbled mess. And I actually enjoy Pet Sounds (although not as much as I enjoy your jokes), so I can only imagine the field day you'll have with it. P.S. The story behind Ramases is fascinating. He was an HVAC guy who went nuts and thought he was the reincarnation of the Egyptian pharaoh. That's 10cc backing him up. But yeah, much better cover than album. The original foldout cover is amazing.
