People frequently ask me about health insurance, what I'll do as I age, and my feelings on death. I've spent countless hours contemplating these themes of life. They are difficult topics to address publicly, but I feel that I owe it to all of you.
In this video, I share much of my life design and philosophy relating to money, health, health insurance, age and death.

"What a terrible man Rob Greenfield is. His position is essentially that he will leech off society for major healthcare expenses and retirement, if necessary as a last resort. Guess what? His chosen lifestyle means it is indeed quite probable that it is necessary, that society bears the cost of his decisions. I was hoping that he was an honourable man who would commit suicide if necessary as a last resort, that the depth of his beliefs would not allow him to leech from society. Sigh. Just another parasite. " ...

Hi Rob, I have to say that you’re extremely inspirational! I respect your way of living and your attitude to life. You’re very lucky having had managed to figure it all out at the beginning of your life and not by the end or even in the middle. I hope to be able to join a like-minded community of people and make this type of life a reality. Unfortunately I’ve let other people convince me to get into things that I never really wanted (marriage, kids, etc.), but I’m still not going to be very old by the time my sons will be grown ups to live differently from the lunacy of what’s called life nowadays. By that time I surely won’t have many possessions as I’m turbo getting rid of them every single day and adhering to minimizing waste, making conscious choices and following the road to enlightenment :) Until then, I keep watching your videos and make baby steps towards freedom.

I have never meet Rob, but I love who he is and what he stands for. I believe he is becoming and going to be one of the greatest philosophers of our time. Philosophers often focus on the bigger picture, think about big ideas, unorthodox, and go against the social norms of current society. I can’t wait to hear more from him. I hope to meet him some day. I find this really inspiring. It's good to be reminded that as individuals, we get to choose which aspects of society we participate in, we don't have to just do what we're "supposed" to do according the the medical system and other things. And this gives me an idea of what my life could be like if I never manage to make a lot of money. I have also done the mental calculations about health insurance and thought, it seems like in the vast majority of cases, it would save me money not to have it, since I don't have any chronic illnesses.

How many times can I like this video? I love this point about health insurance. I think it applies to all insurance, really. This is an entire industry that profits from the fear of misfortunes, and legislates that we must all work to pay into it. Instead of contributing to keeping everyone healthy, which we should all do, it normalizes reckless behavior and requires us to pay for a culture that essentially insists upon reckless behavior (bullshit jobs, and getting to them by driving - driving cars is one of the most dangerous things that anyone does!). Thank you, @Rob Greenfield!

In some cultures the doctors have only been paid, if the patient was healed. I think, in that way the doctors would really try their best to help people heal. And they would be more open to other kinds of medicine. Of course some are, even in that current medicine system. And those are very valuable to me.

Older now, but lived in a "community" back in the "hippie" days. Had so many great intentions, similar to him but clearly didn't work out. He does this all himself. No one to "work it out with" He just finds ways to give, doesn't do anything without clearly aligning it to his core beliefs. There is no "following" here which most of the population follows society and cultural rules. Even the desire for $ is a product of our consumer culture rather than a means to the illusive "happiness" we all desire. I am deeply impressed.

Nice one! I worked and saved then reached the point where I can retire early. Then I got cancer. Planning is great but sometimes you can spend your whole life planning and then it all blows up in your face. That said, i'm not done yet. I'm fighting this thing through alternative means (no chemo or radiation, just as you intend to do if you have this problem). Lost 78 pounds so far and I feel amazing. Weight down from 245 to 167, pants went from a tight 43 to a lose 34 and I feel amazing! Yes you can say that you won't be afraid to die but death is a long way from you. For me it's breathing down my neck. It's an entirely different thing when death is close rather than some distant thing. The only way you can tell how you will react is if you're actually in this situation. I can't take it anywhere near as far as you but I've been in kind of a low level rebellion against this society for a long time. I don't value the things most others value so that made it easy to be frugal. It was pretty normal to live on 30% of my mechanic wages. In my own way though, I'm also disconnecting. If I survive this cancer I plan to live in my pickup truck camper (I've finally got it ready) and become a wandering mechanic for the Permaculture community. I moved most of my money into a highly encrypted form that's nearly impossible to censor, difficult to track, immune to bank seizure, divorce seizure, irs seizure, and many other kinds of theft. I could go anywhere in the world and access it once I got there. It's a way of protecting wealth against government and corporations. The money only moves if you digitally sign it and transmit it. I admire this young man's faith that he will be cared for if he cares for others. I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. He is a man. Men are not cared for. The only thing we are valued for is the wealth and utility we create but we ourselves are not valued. Same goes with marriage. It's a fool's game for a man. When you get into divorce court as a man, the only thing you can do is lose. So, like you, I never signed up for that. It's a raw deal. I'm living on savings right now (from selling my paid off house) but when the time comes to access crypto I'll keep it under 38k a year. That will put me below the minimum level for taxes to be owed to the IRS. If I need more than 38k (doubtful) I'll just access savings. And the result will be a satisfying lifestyle without paying income tax.

I really wish you luck holding back the inevitable death we all have certain. I think most people live just like they would be alive forever. From the moment we are born we are already dying, a serious hillness just reminds us that death is probably closer than we thought. I also believe we can all make a difference even if not even close to rob lifestyle. I am consideter the most ecologist guy at my work and i daily ride a big motorbike and love bikes in general...i try to compensate with self made house detergents, deodorant, toothpast, compose many of my food scraps, plant some persil, mint at my appartment, rehuse water from bath and kitchen to the toilet, make my own yogurt, gelly and avoid buying things packed in plastic. Also cook everything from scratch. Hate to buy stuff and malls. I am far from perfect or zero wast but try to fight this consumist society where money is the body and soul of individuals

Rob, you are very brave for speaking up like this. So many people intuitively and instinctively feel the same way about many things you share throughout your message. We just don't know how to commit through to these actions because it hasn't been done before so casually and easefully. We are programmed to believe anything outside of society's structure is the deep dark unknown where great tragedy lies, but inside of society's strict regulations is tragedy itself. I'm definitely stoked to check out more of your videos and lifestyle.

Twelve years ago I was given a chance to live in a perfect place to do the lifestyle that you have now, but I left it all in exchange for education, college degree, and an enslaving career in a polluted city. I've been making experiments on minimalism and growing my own food for the past 3 years, but never really got serious about it. Now I definitely want to start getting serious, but I still have a few more debts to take care of so I don't leave anything at the back of my conscience before I finally get "off the grid". I am exactly your age right now, and I hate to think that it might already be too late for me. Nevertheless, I am making this vow today to pursue it still and believe that it is still possible for me. With every day that passes by, life on the grid is making less and less sense to me, and I definitely don't want to stay this way all the way to my dying days. Thank you very much for giving me a stronger wake-up call

Definitely this. You have 2 ways to live, 1 by doing everything he's doing, getting rewards for what you put in, and living life to your means and necessity. Or the way it is now 2 keeping people uneducated, increasing population for benefits of war and factories. This is where they give more money or promise better future trough(dreams, factory benefits). So now you have bigger family to worry about, you can't educate 5-6 kids at once, and no time to your self to live like a healthy human. But living with in your means, would come down to, they have to promise you a house and some bigger land to live of, and that doesn't work for greedy and factory competitive earnings.

I continued to be so inspired by your lifestyle and message. It’s truly wonderful to see someone living their ideals. I would say to some who are negative on your message regarding taxes and living on someone else’s land , insurance, healthcare etc...that they are perhaps angry that they feel they have to live in the way this society functions and taking out their frustrations on you unfortunately. I do live within the “system”. I wish to not do so. I work in healthcare, I see a huge waste of resources and misuse of money and I am attempting to change my job to match my ideals of what healing and healthcare should look like. You take care of yourself and that’s what prevents you from getting sick hopefully and the rest is just not something to worry about as you pointed out. I do require health insurance as I cannot afford epi pens for my son and he has life threatening allergies. This is something that I believe is criminal and should be available to all people and as I pay taxes I wish that money would go toward funding epi pens for people who have no health insurance and cannot afford epi pens. Your lifestyle is a good one and I applaud and admire you.

I’m 65 and agree with the end of life choices focusing on value/quality of life not longevity. My 89 year-old mom has dementia and has chosen not to go to the doctor. Family members struggle with her decision and try and pressure her to do what they feel is the right thing to do. My 91 year-old mother in law spends most of her life from one medical crises to another. When she’s not in the hospital she’s worried about medical issues in the future. She spends most of her days sleeping. Because of these experiences I’ve added a dementia rider to my will and have made a decision to not go to annual medical checkups, etc. I’ve been veg for decades, vegan for 16 years. I’ve taken personal responsibility for my own health. I did sign up for medicare (65 this year) but have not used the medical system since the birth of my son 24 years ago and my intention is to not use it at all and die in my own terms. I read the Nearing books back in the late 70’s. What Scott and Helen advocated and lived was completely in-line with my thoughts and values. I have great respect for you and your way of living.

You are my inspiration, Rob! I am much older and low-income (not by choice! lol), but my goals are what I hear you speaking about. I am a vegan and a minimalist, and continue to declutter from my life what I don't need, and donate to those who do. I wish I could do more in my community, but its a rural area with lots of elderly people who mostly stay at home in fear of the outside world. I love to listen to your videos with all the great ideas you have and it gives my motivation in my own life! Thank you so much for this!

Thank you Rob. You are an inspiration. I have 2 kids who depend on me now, but they will be grown up and on their own soon. And I care for my 85 year old mom, but she won’t be here forever (happy to care for her but reality is she is not going to live forever). Once I’m untied by dependents I wish to live like you. I hope to find someone who would share in that life together. Happy to see many people who are interested in this kind of life path. Some day 🙏🏻 thank you for always sharing Rob.

Rob, you are truly such an inspiration. I truly wish to live a life where im of service to others, and i strive for that every single day. Whether it be to make someone smile, donate where I can, and do more good for the world, that is my message. Kindness is the answer. I dont have big aspirations, but one thing I wish to do is to add a smile, a laugh or peace of mind to one person each day, and so far, im doing a pretty good job. I have also come to embrace death, which is very strange considering that I used to be suicidal. Its not like that anymore. I want to continue living, and providing what I can to this beautiful planet, until my day comes, where I will embrace it with open arms.

Lots of food for thought in your talk. I would point out that currently Social Security provides an absolutely critical safety net for disabled and elderly populations. I believe we should try to strengthen this program, and others like them, and safeguard their erosion from those who would dismantle them. I would respectfully encourage you to recognize the need to support and strengthen social programs such at SSI and SSDI, rather than speculating on their demise.

Tell people abt Jesus 1) Jesus is a historical fact evidenced by Roman calendar ad 2020 and bc Anno dominis and before Christ 2) quran which originate from neighboring countries of jeresalem where Jesus was crucified talked abt "prophet" Jesus 3)rome is the country that invaded jeresalem. Rome started the roman calendar and roman catholic to record Jesus event as a historical fact 4) hell is created for demons. All is done for us to go heaven by accepting Jesus crucification as payment for our sins. However God cannot override our freewill. If we choose to go hell made for demons. God cannot override that

This man is strong and aligned, wow. It is difficult, specifically once you get kids, to implement half of this. The big challenge is to get away from the mindset of accumulating money/assets so that your kids will have something to inherit from you. Every kid should run their life from scratch, well, from a better world build by the previous generation rather than individualistically from the money provided by their parents. In the world we live in, injustice starts when you were born.

So grateful to find your channel. Last years I followed a lot of coaching and I was brainwashed by all sorts of bussinesscoaches that I need a lot of money to be really free (passive income, financial freedom etc). However it seems that in order to gain this money I have to invest a lot of years to become ‘rich’ and meanwhile not doing what I like, and getting more distanced from my dreams.
