Totally agree with the last comment on finishing. You could have the most perfectly constructed building there, but the finishes are what you will be looking at everyday and how most people looking at a job will judge it. Always say the same with a good painter, a wall can be perfectly plumb, square, solid, skimmed etc but if the paint finish is poor then what’s the point. You can tell this place is built by someone who gets what it’s all about. Great job and great videos

Quality of work just extraordinary can't get over how good that is. Top attention to detail all round. I know what you mean about tiredness I'm there with my own house right now, doesn't quite look this good though. Not sure I quite agree on the cutwrights point, as I can get a delivery at 8 in the morning now and have a set of wardrobes joints all cut etc by lunchtime which saves me a fair bit but each to their own. Requires significant investment in advance in things that will give you the extra edge. Priced them up in the past on primed mrmdf and just wasn't worth it for me but I like the Egger suggestion. Painting it is always the worst

Hi Robin Have enjoyed the Skill builder channel for sometime, only recently noticed your sections on said channel. I like many of the positive observations you make on products, in particular, Cutwrights panels. My only concern is that I'm not a trades person, just someone who likes DIY. I like the idea of mainly being responsible for only the leveling & square-ing of a wardrobe base, & measuring of required panel dimensions & notches etc. I only hope such Companies like Cutwrights are not exclusively Trade. Happy New Year Robert

Always surprised how often fellas in the trades make use of pros in other trades despite having the ability to do the work themselves. A moral there for us diy bodgers
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
Bertie Professionals are generally less likely to multi-task. It often comes down to speed. Robin can pitch a roof faster than he can tile a bathroom so it makes sense for him to go to work and pay somebody else to do that. There are however many jobbing builders taking on house extensions and loft conversion who do most of the work themselves because it saves hanging around waiting for other trades to find a slot in their schedules. One of the biggest problems is that it is hard to be precise about the length of time jobs take. If you book your plumber for a week and you are not ready then the plumber has to find another job and she might not be too happy.

That is a lovely looking house. When it’s actually being lived in some of the warmth will quite rightly and deservedly some from smug factor - you knowing that the job could not have been done any better. Well done. But here is a little question for you - Are you going to “document” your house? Will it have the equivalent of an owner’s manual? You have some heavyweight tech installed and some will have had some initial settings and values. Come five or ten years time when maintenance needs to be performed you don’t want to forget where the services are, where you put the manuals or what settings were made. You also need to know the warranty periods of the gubbins should something not play the game.

@@ukconstruction Is it 5he type where you plug in a hose to the wall like in the 1980s? I would think the only way I would do centralized vacuum is if I had zero carpet and only had those little floor level ducts that suck up whatever is in front when you get an inch away. Sweeping would be easier and no dustpan to deal with.

Quick question Robin regarding your bathrooms. In the US there is ‘code’ to follow that says that there cannot be any wall or vanity unit within 13 inches of the toilet. Does the uk have any similar regulations? Your vanity unit looked very close to the toilet. Or is that not really an issue for us?
