Depends partially on what weapon tech each is armed with. But all things equal Murphy is probably slightly physically weaker than a T800, but with a much higher critical thinking ability and hense could likely take on a few at a time or a handful or two if they fight one after another. Without some sort of serious environmental advantage, Murphy probably couldnt defeat a T1000

If Sarah "Can't balance a checkbook" Conner could defeat a Terminator, then Robocop most certainly can. He already defeated Detroit's "terminator" AKA ED-209. But the real burning question is: Terminator Vs Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad.😁

The music in this film is underrated 100% completely legendary. Practical effects are so much preferred to me over cgi in some cases too. Loved this violence.

Yeah, he has a theme just like Batman or Indiana Jones. A good one too. Themes are are to come by these days. Ooh yeah practical all the way. Cgi should be a tool in the toolbox, not the toolbox.

Anytime someone reacts to a Paul Verhoeven film, I watch. I consider him the Tarantino of science fiction. His films based on the works of Phillip K. Dick are the best. Total Recall was my all-time favorite, however his work on Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers was the stuff of legend.

Yeah, but Starship Troopers barely followed the book at all. Still, it was a great movie -- not very deep or thought-provoking, but a good fun time watching.

@@OneEyedJack1970 Total Recall is nothing like We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, either. Starship Troopers is not necessarily "deep", but it's definitely more than just "shoot bugs dead." All three are among my favorite movies.

I can remember it like yesterday, when Robocop came out. The theater lobby had a full blown 7-foot version of ED-209 staring you down. It was so next level marketing, so super cool. There were no cell phones back then. So no way to take quick selfies with the Robocop nemesis. To capture that memory would have been so awesome.

I never saw a Ed-209 standee, but I distinctly remember the life-size cut-out of Robocop. First saw it displayed at a theater in New Jersey. My uncle, who was a detective in Manhattan (his claim to fame would be one of the guys who DIDN'T get Gotti in that first big trial, something he blames on the FBI witholding evidence from the NYPD so that the Feds could be the ones to take him down) said that a robot cop was a good idea.

I love the scene where Clarence spits blood on the police desk. It was not in the script, so the reactions of the other actors are genuine. Great classic movie from my youth.

My 2nd favorite movie of all time. Thank you for watching. This film was originally given an X rating because it was too violent for censors so the director had to cut a lot of scenes for it it achieve the R rating. It was cut ELEVEN times. It traumatized me as a kid but it paved the way for future R-rated movies.

Robocop 2 is one of the best sequels too, directed by the director of another top tier sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, Irvin Kershner. It's not as good as a film, but it's insanely entertaining.

It was so much fun watching you enjoy RoboCop! There were a lot of violent and gross scenes and they were somewhat typical when RoboCop was filmed. The plot was simple and easy to follow so you could enjoy the action and special effects. Keep up the good work Dasha! Hope your channel continutes to grow.

Great reaction Dasha! Director Paul Verhoeven's "Triple Dutch" trilogy is always a must. RoboCop (1987) Total Recall (1990) And Starship Troopers (1997) All three are super action, subversive, sci-fis, so next I definitely recommend Starship Troopers, it's also awesome! Just to let you know there was a RoboCop Versus The Terminator Comic book mini-series. Yes, RoboCop is the stronger one but he had to face several Terminators.

@@Caseytify If you discount the connection to the book, Starship Troopers is pretty good. Yes it's cheesy but it's all purposeful to drive home the nature of propaganda. I prefer the book too and was deeply disappointed when I saw the movie the first time because I wanted to see the book live on screen but it's grown on me as its own thing in the years since.

@@Caseytify well if you're a real fan of the book I can absolutely see your point of view on that, hell if you love Philip K Dick's stories you'll hate the majority of the adaptations including "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" (aka Total Recall) and it would be cool to one day see a more faithful adaptation of Starship Troopers (it would have been awesome to see the power armor), but Paul Verhoeven's unique vision is what we're appreciating here, so let's hope one day everyone gets a version of the stories they like, I know plenty of people who hated the RoboCop remake. (You know come to think of it RoboCop is a kind of adaption too, a couple of writers where trying to make a movie of the 1977 comic book 2000 AD which is the first appearance of Judge Dredd, but couldn't get the rights, so they retooled the script into RoboCop.)

16:17 Because Paul Verhoeven is Dutch, and his director of photography for this scene is German, they didn't realize how offensive a pejorative "bitch" is in American English, so they kept addressing and referring to the two actresses here as "the bitches" while directing the scene, and Miguel Ferrer and Kurtwood Smith were just cracking up.

I’d be very surprised if any of the special effects would be fixed. When George Lucas lessened the thick black matte lines from the original _Star Wars_ trilogy in the late 1990s people even whinged about that, so I expect that those effects would be left the way they are. A remaster has actually happened: Arrow Video has just released a Limited Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray set. It is a 4K restoration from the original negatives, transferred in 2013 and approved by Paul Verhoeven himself.

As it turned out, in May 2022 it did get a 35th anniversary cinematic re-release. I jumped at the chance to watch it on the big screen with an audience and the experience was fantastic!

Since you asked on who will be stronger between Terminator or RoboCop they actually do have comic books and video games based on that subject and I believe at the end it was RoboCop who is the Victor, because I think the story was based around RoboCop was the foundation for Skynet or something like that.

Terminator vs robocop in hand to hand combat? It's all about the speed, and the terminator is way way faster as well as being more flexible. He snaps robocops head off like a chicken before robo can even take a swing. Only my opinion ofcourse. 🤷‍♂️

@@TheRetroManRandySavage Other than the 1000 series, all known terminator models are built for strength, force, and endurance instead of speed as well as their primary function of infiltration into human groups. They're about the same overall speed as Robocop is once he's settled on a course of action. Where the terminators do win is in their action/reaction time and certainty of engagement. Because they have the single function of killing while Robocop has to follow law enforcement rules of engagement. Robocop wins hands down in ingenuity, however. In the Robocop v Terminator comics he ultimately wins because he looked at the whole 'only living tissue can pass' limitation of the time travel, then made himself a heavy weapons platform body and just covered it up in a goopy ball of the terminator pseudoflesh. Once in the past he just broke out of it, flew into orbit and straight up demolished the Skynet server satelite.

@@valashar5313i know all that. But I'm not talking about what happens in a comic book. As I stated, I'm talking about a one on one hand to hand combat. And whether or not the terminator was built for strenth/power over speed is immaterial. He's still way more faster and agile than robocop is.

@@TheRetroManRandySavage You're serious about that? No terminator shown, save for the 1000 series, has had any sort of agility or melee fighting speed. They're all plodding hydraulics and pistons. Not that Robocop is any different. I'd put them at about equal in that regard, honestly. I mean, a half-asleep human in the middle of his post-nut clarity was able to dodge a punch from the OG T-101 and then go a round or two with it before getting erased.

I loved your reaction to Officer Lewis. You summed her up pretty good. She's pretty friendly, kinda punchy and super nice. I have long been a fan of the way Robo was portrayed in his law enforcement duties. Paul Verhoeven did a great job there. Not a lot of people realize, but his prime directives are arranged in such a way that he can be the best police officer possible, rather than a cold, soulless, violent machine like ED-209. Serving the public trust means preserving the trust of the people in their police department, by acting ethically and responsibly at all times. It also means he can use his personal discretion to decide whether to enforce on someone or let them off easy.

I remember in the late 80s my parents and my grandma watching this movie one weekend, they had rented it in Betamax or VHS (can't recall which format, we had both at one point). I was fascinated by the action and the surreal characters of the scenes I saw, then I went and saw the whole thing. My parents would always rent 3 or 4 movies to watch on the weekends, fortunately for me they always let me watch the horror and action movies of the 80s. Ah, to be a child in that era again, I remember my Robocop toy with cap firing (a bit of smoke and burnt smell for a shooting effect) and my friend had ED-209. Now grown up, I truly appreciate the writing, the direction, the acting, the dark humor, the effects and the movie making craft. Robocop is one the greatest satires of the 80s. I am very happy that you enjoyed this one so much Dasha, one of my favorite movies ever.

👍🏽 im with you there i feel Robocop 2 is so underrated….it’s actually a pretty good action film…it doesn’t capture lightning in a bottle like the first but it wasn’t one of those ignoring bad sequels….just like ghostbusters 2….the only thing those two films did was just not be the first in the franchise having to live up to there original counter parts….but yea you said it she should definitely skip Robocop 3

Your reaction gets a like Dasha because out of all the people I have seen react to Robocop, you are the only one to show the guy saying "I'll buy that for a dollar!" One of the most memorable lines in the movie. The best one though is Clarence saying "Bitches leave."

There was actually huge talk of a robocop vs terminator film back in the day but unfortunately it never happened, they did make a video game for it in the early 90s though. I used to make little comic strips when I was a kid of the two of them fighting and with an actual reason of why they're crossing paths with Robocop winning because the t800 had returned but this time to kill John Connor while John was hiding out in Detroit

0:12 I once had a nightmare about Kuato too. I think I knocked the man he was attached to out of a high window or something, and I saw Kuato's face on the way down, screaming. They were going to land in some kind of swimming pool or something which was full of other mutated baby type things, like Kuato.

Now that you’ve seen this and “Total Recall”, you have to complete Verhoeven’s sci-fi trifecta by watching “Starship Troopers”. It’s even more extreme than “Robocop”, but totally worth a watch. Franchise crossovers weren't a big thing in movies back then, so no cinematic Robocop vs. Terminator match up, but Frank Miller did a very clever Robocop vs. Terminator graphic novel mini-series for Dark Horse Comics. However, the story isn't about which cyborg can beat the other one on one. It's about the conflicting agendas of Murphy/Robocop, Skynet, and the human resistance, and their attempts to alter history to achieve their goals. It's worth looking up even though I think it isn't considered canon in the Robocop or Terminator universe.

Fun Fact: When Clarence gets arrested, he suggested to the director Verhoven. How about I spit blood and say "Just give me my f-ing phone call". Verhoven smiled and said Yes! This is sick! I Like it!". For sure Verhoeven loved to make the action as over the top as possible, just like in Total Recall.

You actually do know one of the actors, Ronny Cox, he was the main bad guy in Total Recall and he's also the main bad guy in Robocop. Both films are directed by the same guy too - Paul Verhoeven. Edit: I realised that you were aware who the director was. Glad you loved it.

"The movie is simple, but also not as simple..." "Robocop" is a product of its time: a simple general story, but with a good level of details and substories that mix to create a world and a set of characters we like. We can say that the film wants more to give a good action story to the audience, rather than reinventing the world or films or spawn some franchise (in the end it did, but this first film stands by itself). Today, several films fail in cinemas partially is because they try too hard to be "the next step of CGI effects" or "redefine the way films are made today". Not all films can be "milestones" (it's impossible); back in those days several films that are now memorable had that same background: they tried their best to be just "themselves", not tools to change the world of filmmaking or formulas to spawn sequels upon sequels to keep studios happy. That's an approach a bit lost (and missed) in this era (not that everything done recently is bad, but also see how many franchises have been picked up to be "the next big thing", done some decent job in early stages, and then dropped just because the numbers weren't acceptable).

Paul Verhoeven is such a great director, his films are so sarcastic with a lot of gore. You really should watch "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone, and "Starship Troopers". "Starship Troopers" is very special, fascists are this time the good guys, protecting the earth against an alien invasion.

While the description of 'Starship Troopers' is correct on the surface, like many Paul Verhoeven movies, you only have to go a little bit deeper to get all kinds of other messages. Just like here with 'Robocop'.

The fact that the actor who played Clarence Boddicker(the gang leaderz) would go on to play one of Americas favorite TV fathers as Red Foreman on that 70's show always makes me laugh.

I recently discovered that Ronny Cox who played Dick Jones was also playing Bogomil in Beverly Hills Cop. He played such opposite characters so well. At first I couldn.t believe it was the same actor.

17:06 Bob hired Clarence first to almost kill a police officer, so as to provide a human brain for building the Robocop cyborg; when Clarence broke into his house, Bob was more surprised to see him turned against him, and Dick's video recording confirmed it.

In my opinion, Robocop is one of the most amazing movies ever made. Its serious, its silly, its cheesy, its funny, its sad, its happy, and most importantly, like Dasha said, its fun! Its just one of those movies I don't think can every be truly outdone.

I just watched your review and fun as usual. Robocop was set in “future Detroit”. I live in Michigan and about 20 years ago Detroit decided to commission some statue art to modernize the city. They let the public send in votes for what they wanted for a statue and nearly 80% of people voted for a “Robocop” statue. The mayor kept doing press conferences saying “please pick something to better represent the city”-people keep voting for Robocop. Finally when it was time to decide, Robocop had the most votes. A reporter asked if a Robocop statue would be built and live on TV the mayor lost his temper and shouted, “We’re not going to have a damn Robocop statue for Detroit!”. Peter Weller (the actor who played Roboco actually made a video thanking Detroit for their support. I have never laughed so hard at a politician. I have loved this movie for that every since.

The camp is what really makes these movies something special. The ridiculously exaggerated violence, the crazy crap on the television, the stuff that comes out of people's mouths... few movies pull off camp this well. Starship Troopers, Hobo with a Shot Gun, the list is short.

Gotta disagree with you about _"Starship Troopers"_ - it wasn't actually 'camp' ... it just seems that way, now. It was actually a pretty faithful rendition (allowing for technological updates) of the original book - which you need to remember was written in the middle third of the 20th century. Since it was written, there have been so _many_ stories with similar elements, that the movie *seems* 'camp', even though it's pretty much just a straightforward presentation of the original book.
