Well after being sponsored by the lovely fellas at Freejam to advertise the game in the previous FtD video I thought It was only right I jump in and test the demo for myself in video form!! The level of nostalgia is just off the charts and I'm so glad I've been around long enough to see this sort of thing come full circle!

Nothing beats early early Roborcraft, that was peak Robocraft The Robocraft where I would see giant Mikus with cannons for arms, the Robocraft where it wasn't just a sweat fest, but also artistic expression. Silly builds not meant to win, but to have a laugh.

I remember my annoying healer flyer spider crab. Ah i was hated soooo much and just healed people from the brink of death. There was no regen and a good healer was a make or break for the team.

@@LickItTM I was the ultimate asshole. Idk if you're familiar with a satellite robocraft, but it was 2 1x1 blocks stacked on top of each other, 4 small low tier thruster/booster on each side, 1 medium-high tier laser gun hanging on the bottom, and the seat for the dude to sit on the top. So what would happen is that you would launch straight to the top of the skybox and hover there, you couldn't control where you would go but you could mostly see everything. Where the satellite robocraft would take you allowed you to rain down hell on people bellow. You could snipe them and kill them very fast because you sacrificed most of your build for the weapon, so the game would put you in lowish tier games. It was beautiful.

is it just me or is the scaling in building MUCH different? it seems they decreasd the size of your normal block by about half ish, which is great because it means you can get smaller details

Yeah, the building system is quite different Base blocks are much smaller but can be scaled and combined for details easily Details can look amazing but it takes forever There is also the possibility to modify characteristics of action blocks (braking power of wheel, thrust of a thruster, firing time offset of a gun,...) And now you can build your own turrets ! Which super neat (if a little janky initially)

Absolutely. Those who played Techblox (and I presume Robocraft 2 is actually picking up where Techblox left off under the hood) will feel right at home with this iteration of the building system.

@@iwansays I have no way to answer that with any certainty; the game is in very early development and the dev are really into looking at player feedback (the official discord is very active) I think they went for something different in terms of size scaling, which isn't necessarily a bad thing and is likely linked to performance It's also worth noting that weight is VERY important this time around. You can make a slumbering tank that can't climb a slope or a speedy car that won't take a hit. So more blocks doesn't mean better vehicle anymore

@@aendranireho6038 Weird. Iirc, they scrapped mega because of performance issues or something. But now, PCs have more computing powers. Performance shouldn't be an issue anymore even if they use the old blocks' system. Weight was also a thing back then. They were important for fast-moving bots. But it was still possible to make tanks. Some movement parts have huge carrying capacity to allow that. It makes sense because they mostly can't do anything but tanking damage. What I'm guessing is they likely won't reduce pilot seat's size if they decide to keep the ability to let pilots out of vehicles. In combination with everything else, this will only limit players' creativity.

The flood of memories from my childhood that went through my head of me waking up excited to see that Lathland had uploaded a new Robocraft video. Edit: I started crying at 15:40. oh my god please yes I still believe early Robocraft to be one of the best games I've ever played, I'm so hyped, nervous and giddy about Robotcraft 2 happening. So far it looks great, we've got the seats back with awesome addition of the actual pilot being a thing, and we've also got powered joints I remember them hyping up back in the day before they decided that their target audience should be 8 years old that have no patience for building. I really like how physics are looking so far, though I need to figure out how damage propagation works. I wasn't here back when you've been making Robotcraft videos, but I sure do hope to see your series on Robotcraft 2. Even this demo is just so much that ahhh

It was actually a friend of mine who got me on this channel all those years ago. One time during a sleepover, we were watching KZfaq and he put on Lathrix playing robocraft, and we just watched all those videos until we fell asleep. It’s great to see this back again, and I can’t wait to see more of it!

Lathrix, Thanks for putting this game up on your last video. I have played it a TON. With you getting your turret blown off so much remember that block size is your Hitpoints and block type is your Armour. So a large block made of heavy armour would be best for you to put your gun on. Also putting a ring cover around your turret base block (like you did) made of heavy armour would give just a couple of more hits before losing your turret base.

Well, the first game's development completely ended some years ago and this one wasn't originally planned to be a sequel. The community just was apparently so insistent on there being a sequel that the devs course corrected another game they were in the very early stages of working on into becoming Robocraft 2.

man this made my remember my old carpet bomber. it was very makeshift because I didn't have the optimal parts but that's what made it so cool. just a plane with any type of plasma I had in my inventory strapped to it's belly and way too weak thrusters but there were lots of them. it had a somewhat long barrage of plasma and unleashing it on someone was the best feeling ever

I still remember playing the original robocraft in elementary school. My go to vehicle was a helicopter with a stealth module and railguns that could effectively snipe from across the map. The only issue was that if anyone with anti-air missiles saw me, they could kill me with one salvo.

Personal tip: as a railgun or plasma craft, I like to get out of my craft to capture points. I sit one or two steps away from the base of the crystals and aim up with my rifle. Way faster than sitting there with a railgun for a while.
