Robots - 2005
In a world of sentient robots, striving young inventor Rodney Copperbottom (Ewan McGregor) wants to work for the avuncular Bigweld (Mel Brooks), whose Bigweld Industries makes spare robot parts. But Bigweld has just been deposed as company head by the villainous Phineas T. Ratchet (Greg Kinnear), who wants to make all robots submit to profitable forced upgrades. In this animated adventure, Rodney and his friend Fender (Robin Williams) go underground to fight Ratchet's evil plans.

To those confused about this, I suppose this is meant to say that Transformer parts are similar to how human organs work. They not really a “swap and fix”, remember, organ transplants can go wrong. Iirc, sometimes the body will fail to recognize and integrate the replaced organ with the body’s natural system. So it’s possible that transformers could suffer similar issues if you try to replace one of their parts.

If you think about it, Robots was actually a pretty dark kids movie. They take old out moded Robots, melt them down, and turned them into upgrades for newer Robots to wear. That's really creepy and very very dark.

I’m an adult now, a certified big boy, and I can see that pretty much all the designs in the movie are interesting and clever, all the little moving parts and mechanics, it’s all pretty awesome. However, as a kid, I thought it was all creepy as hell, with their mouth-seams and synthetic eyes. Again, it makes sense to me now, they’re like headlights, but it made kid me mad uncomfortable

Let's see: 1) The soundtrack and general ambient noise was created by the Blue Man Group, and they apparently had a decently strong hand in helping the crew figure out timing of scenes 2) The Chop conveyor line is probably so the Junkers can separate by metal types to use for melting down into new parts 3) I don't care that the movie's nonsensical, I love it.

They don’t build an adult right away because what I haven’t seen in this movie is coding. So you can’t program an adult. You have to start with some holy starter OS and it will learn itself over the years. Making a child an adult body, there have been a Myriad of movies exploring how awkward that would be.
@ginocanterino258

Sorry I'm late but I think the reason rouild as babies and not as adults could be because the adult robots like the feellings of being parent. How would you feel if you didn't have any chance of enjoying the childhood of your children because they were born already adults and ready to find a job? The best part of being parents is everything before the child becomes an adult

That last sentence reminded me of a scene in Doctor Who where a character is found out she had her mind corrupted as a child, and when she was uncorrupted as an adult, her mind regressed to that of a 5 year old.

@@ginocanterino258 You’re comparing human nature to that of metal and bolts. Can you see how the different species do not equate? Some animals perform cannibalism of their own children or siblings on a regular basis. You don’t see humans doing that. I understand what you mean. But I’m trying to be more cynically rational about a fictional world that wasn’t made to make sense. Lol
@ginocanterino258
@ginocanterino258 Жыл бұрын
@@pumpkingamebox don't forget that animals that commit cannibalism aren't as self aware as us. This robots shares a mind very similar to ours so it's very logical to assume they would feel the same emotions we feel, have the same wishes we have and much more. They are made out of metal but their minds? Even if inorganic they are just like the human minds
@pumpkingamebox
@pumpkingamebox Жыл бұрын
@@ginocanterino258 No, it’s you who is forgetting that humans are also animals and have inherited the traits that make us care and want for offspring. Emotion are purely a human thing. And a desire to see offspring grow up is a biological instinct. Which in Robot society doesn’t exist. The only thing human thought shared with the robot thought, or any other alien species that might live a wholly different way (based on silicon as an example) is logic. Ancient Greek Stoic’s had an insanely similar ideas to those of Buddhism. Since those came about by logic and examination of human life. Only ideas that come through such logic are shared. Caring for one’s offspring is not logic, but a biological instinct. And as I proved in my previous example. It does not exist in every species. Therefore, the idea of a Robot wanting to care for a little robot first and only then a teen, and then an adult, is irrational. Because it’s purely human.

Robots is probably one of my biggest comfort films, especially with its retrofuturistic setting. The world they're in is super creative (especially robot city), Ratchet was a very funny and entertaining villain, solid animation, perfect soundtrack, Fender is nonsensical in all the best ways, hell I even like Rodney's parents. My only complaint about Robots is that some of the jokes are too juvenile for my liking, but any jokes that weren't toilet humour pretty much landed for me. But all this being said, I respect you guys not liking it. Not everyone's gonna like it and I can see why some wouldn't.

Here he's forcing them to buy the stuff he made from innocent civilians by removing the older models from the market, and if you don't get the updated body parts you break down. Also the said Chop Shop workers could be more or less considered slave labor too, being forced to smash up and dispose of their friends remains.

I actually got Robots on DVD in a pack with it's soundtrack. There were other options like this but I picked that one. (Don't ask what the others were, this was about 15 years ago.) Anyways, I for some reason decided to watch the movie in Spanish with subtitles and I watched it in whole that way. (I actually was interested in Spanish but I didn't do that for every movie.) I did this a couple of times. However, I have never seen Robots in whole in English. I get maybe halfway through it at most and get bored, only really admiring the animation and soundtrack. Speaking of the soundtrack, I listened to THAT quite often. So I actually preferred songs like Shine, Right Thurr, and Get Up Offa That Thing to the movie itself. So make of that what you will. Fun Fact: The song More To Life is on the Christian CD Wow 2005.
