@@thomasriddle7005 That's absolutely right. At the Council of Elrond one of the Elves suggests that they throw the Ring in the Sea. Gandalf argues against this saying that it would eventually be found and that they needed to eliminate the Ring forever, not just for one or one hundred generations.

They also might not have known about the secret path and attempted to enter through the gate and who knows what happens.

@@BROPify Gandalf's plan was to go around and come into Mordor from the north but it was a lot longer route and would have provided the enemy more time to pinpoint Frodo's position.

My mom did that for me as a kid and The Hobbit was the one book I retained the most knowledge from I really hope parents reading books to their kids before bed doesn’t die out as time goes on

​@@Makkaru112Tolkien outright admitted that Gandalf with the ring would have been worse than Sauron. Because Gandalf was righteous and with his power would "correct" the world towards "good" - which would be awful. I imagine it would be the same with Galadriel who basically confronts her will to power within herself when she faces the temptation of the ring. But ultimately Tolkien was very wise in seeing the evil in good people thinking they can coerce the world towards good. Were living through that now. No shortage of those who think they know whats best and want to force others to comply. Their "social justice", "equity", "reparations" and "being on the right side of history". Delusional, self assured moral tyrants. THAT is what the ring would turn Gandalf into: a meddler with ultimate power and a desire to "correct" everything towards "good".

Ya the films were already set back with the changes in director and the studio wasn't giving Jackson the time and money to do practical effects so he had to go quick and dirty with CGI.

It's so sad because Jackson had to sort out Del Toro's shit show in such a short amount of time with an awful budget. It's amazing he managed to pull it off at all let alone make highly watchable and entertaining films. It really does annoy me when people slag off The Hobbit trilogy because I think Jackson pulled off a miracle given what he had to work with.

You should try reading the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony. They are so entertaining and David Eddings is another amazing fantasy writer with lots of awesome novels too.

Same for me. This book was on a reading list in my grade school and you got points for reading books. I've loved reading and fantasy ever since.

I think "The desolation of Smaug" is the best of the three. Love Beorn, Smaug, and even like the added character of Tauriel.

Peter Jackson said he was just trying to hurry up and finish this trilogy. he grew tired of it at this point and just wanted it to be over.

The extended Galadriel scene in this first film connects to battle of five armies but they didn’t watch the extended so….

@wendell6468 it's not that he was tired of it, it was his job to take over and hit the deadline for the wrap or finish. Peter Jackson was not the original director of the hobbit. Someone else was hired, and after they parted ways, Pete Jackson was then hired to direct and save the project.

Not entirely. I think the Fellowship at least is better in the theatrical cut. Two Towers is indeed better extended. I'm torn on Return of the King.

Tolkien wrote this book after world war II so it could not put him on the map in the 30s... your information is false. I'm not trying to be mean I'm just pointing that out. The story of Lord of the Rings was reflection of the horrors that he saw during the war.

Those are significantly different, but yes. Also, the 2nd Narnia movie feels - without being dirty - noticeably less like a kids movie. But they’re all good! Oh. hold on, it was Gollum searching for Bilbo that led to the dark lord learning the ring had been found and who/where it now could be found. if Bilbo had exterminated Gollum in the Goblin caves Sauron would of remained ignorant of it's existence for perhaps another 500 years or more. it was Gollums obsession for the ring that led to all that happened in the war of the ring. Sauron was confident his Wraiths would secure the possession of the one ring that allowed him to rush his plans for conquest, he was gambling on becoming all powerful before the allies could even react. Gollum plunged all into war through his personal jealousy.

​@stevechurch4728 yes, but if Gollum wasn't there to attack Frodo and fall into the fire with the ring, Frodo would have left with it. He was about to keep it for himself before he got attacked by Gollum. Gollum not being there would have ensured it not being destroyed.

But now it's destroyed forever and all the "what if's" and "maybe's" disappear. Who knows what would have happened if it wasn't destroyed? Perhaps nothing, perhaps the end of man altogether. I never believed any of this . The story would've played out so much differently, that there's no way to say he was needed . If golum was dead he never would've ratted out the Baggins' . Bilbo still would've left after his bday and frodo would still have the ring. The journey to destroy it would have been vastly different and frodo may have not been corrupted bc the journey would be alot faster. So yes golum destroyed it in the end but also 80% of the fellowships problems wouldn't have happened if golum was dead

@@GRIZY28 It's true that Gollum knew where the ring was, and directed the Nazgul to Shire. But if that hadn't happened, the ring would've still been in Frodo's hands, and it still would've corrupted him, eventually. Either that or Bilbo would have come back for it, since he was still attached to it even when he was close to death. Gollum selling out the Shire actually set the plot to destroy the ring in motion. The journey also would not be faster, since Frodo and Sam would still split up from the rest of the party due to the fear that the ring would corrupt all of them, but this time they would not have a guide. And during that time wandering around, the ring was already weighing on Frodo. The more time wasted, the more the ring could work on Frodo. Sam was ready to go straight into the Black Gates, which would've spelled doom for both of them. Gollum was the one who pulled them away Either Frodo would've died on his way to Mordor or he would've been captured and taken to Sauron if Gollum was dead. Hell, Saruman might have gotten the ring early on. Gollum also acts as an anchor for Frodo, because Frodo says he has to believe Gollum can come back, otherwise he won't.

Lord of The Rings is 3 books, not 6. It was one movie per book. The Hobbit should have been just one movie. It's literally the shortest book of the quadrilogy. Not even Fellowship of The Ring, the longest book in the series, could make for an entire movie trilogy.

Not to mention playing Dr.Watson in the BBC Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. And, Mr. Cumberbatch stars as the voice of Smaug in the next two movies of this Hobbit Trilogy.

Weirdly, it seems to me there's much more packed into The Hobbit than into each LOTR book. I probably just need to read them again.

@urthboundmisfit you're right. Peter Jackson explained that's exactly why The Hobbit is three movies. Being aimed at kids, The Hobbit was packed with action, stuff that translated well to film and which you just didn't want to leave out. Being aimed at adults, The Lord of The Rings was packed with page after page of dialogue and histories and poetry and songs, which just wouldn't have made for particularly compelling movie making. I'm rereading the LotR now, and I see exactly what he means. I think people who poo poo the decision are just reacting to the number of books either without giving it much thought or without actually having read The Hobbit or the LotR.

The grudge is because of a certain singular clan of dwarves that fricken murdered the greatest elvish king who was born upon middle earth before the sun and moon named Elu Thingol! AKA Elwë (Finwë was his fave brother out of his 5 other bothers.) it’s very complex and so Galadriels gift to Gimli had multiple pronged significance which closes the gap between elves and dwarves. Ontop of that the ultimate dwarf friend was her eldest brother Finrod. Named Felagund by the dwarves of Nargothrond and gave him that dwarvish kingdom as a gift as they created and fortified it together. And Galadriel too was friends with them. Only named Galadriel but later on by Celeborn and she fell in love with it so much that she used it as what’s called the universal name instead of Nerwen or Artanis etc. ❤❤❤❤

She read all his books too and her fave character is Galadriel believe it or not! She also said in the documentary of the hobbit that she’d come and do anything that has Galadriel in it so you’ll see her in his future films coming out.
