@@mrbear1302 They made their sound more pop and generic and album sales shot up. Money and fame are great, but artistic integrity is something I value a lot more. This version of the band was what Joe Elliot envisioned when he was doodling in his notebook. Everything post-Pete is trash and you're welcome to it.

Going down the Def Leppard rabbit hole will not steer u wrong, in fact...u just might not want to come back out...well, for a while anyway lol. This is a super-talented band with so, so many great songs, in fact there are probably too many to list, but some of my favorites...Too Late For Love, Foolin, Let it Go and Rock, Rock Till You Drop. Just some suggestions 🤗❤️🤘

There is a solo that comes after this song on the album called Switch 625. Incredible solo by Steve Clark. Most times it's played on the radio and live, back then with both parts together, before he passed. Maybe if you react to another older song throw that in there as well. It's funny how you talk about this as slower music compared to Hysteria songs. At this time they were considered New Wave of British Heavy Metal band and later more of a hair metal band. They were highly influenced by Glam Rock of the 70s though.

Rick was my first “younger than me” celebrity crushes lol. By three months. Felt like a grown up when I found out I was older, since every crush id had before was older than me. Here’s a story. The album Pyromania included their manager’s office/home address. I was in London as an exchange student in the fall of 1984 and me being the adventurous type, went to the address. Ended up meeting him, saw the “in the round” stage that they were going embark on. Then a couple weeks later Rick had his accident and lost his arm. They’ve been a favorite for 40 years now. Btw, this is a very early video. Phil Collin hadn’t replaced Pete Willis yet. They did a remix of this song later with Phil that is awesome too.

Yes, that dynamic is hard to come by. Early Who had it ("Pictures of Lily", "I Can See For Miles"), Slade ("Come On Feel the Noize", "Mama Weer All Krazy Now"), Styx ("Fooling Yourself", many others). I like the way you typed out the sung word, "heartbreak". Capital A's to denote the step upwards in the scale---nice. The ability to use this limited resource (chat room correspondence) to paint an aural image: that's an equally rare and impressive dynamic.

I honestly believe that if it wasn't for Def Leppard, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal wouldn't have ever gotten a fair shake on Commercial Radio or MTV. Joe Elliot knew exactly what he wanted this band to be, and Def Leppard was the bridge that was needed between the underground hard rock/early metal movement and Top 40 Radio/MTV. And even then, it took almost 10 years before Metal was really taken seriously on commercial radio. The metal scene would be so much smaller if it wasn't for Def Leppard.

Notice the similar speed (or lack-there-of), the pace, rhythm, the lyric's metre.....of DL's early albums/songs like this one from "High n Dry" and their first album, "On thru the Night" and compare it to their subsequent hits/success and you'll hear why it was relatively easy to transition Rick to an electronic assist device. No doubt it more than made up for the loss of his arm. Their musical, "signature style and sound" changed a little but to most diehards, it was in a very good way. God rewarded this band with riches and fans beyond their dreams. That's what happens when you don't leave your friends behind in the midst of a tragedy. God listens!...and God rewards!

I give Rick all the respect in the world for figuring out a way to keep playing after a tragic accident which almost killed him. I've tried tying one hand behind my back and getting to his level, I can't play with out my left hand.....ohhhh yurrrr!

Rick secretly worked on his drum kit after the accident and the other guys pretty much had a new drummer hired. When Rick played his new kit the guys were blown away. The "new" drummer said "I thought I was the new guy", the rest of the band said only if you can out drum a one armed drummer. RESPECT!!!

You guys should do an full album reaction and this would be a good album to start with. The entire "High and Dry" Album is stellar. There is actually kind of an extended part to the song you just listened to. "Bringing on the Heartbreak" rolls into the next cut "Switch 625". This is probably my favorite Def Leppard album. Pyromania is another good album. But you gotta listen to "High and Dry" front to back.

johnny I am 100% in agreement! They must do high n' dry the whole album. When Pete Willis left the band and Phil replaced him there music (sound) shifted so far they lost me, after pyromania I was done.

This was from the High and Dry album. They had one prior hit to this called Me and my Wine. But this was their first MTV played hit and set them up for their next album Pyromania which went multi platinum.

This whole album is dynamite. Some great songs off the album that aren't mentioned as much are Lady Strange, You Got Me Runnin', Mirror Mirror and Switch 625 which is an instrumental right after this song. Steve Clark was such a big part of the band as well. They have had so many challenges over the years and have overcome them all together. They are the greatest!

The movie biopic of the band didn't get great reviews, but I have always loved the studio scene with Mutt Lange where they are recording "Bringing on the Heartbreak". I'm not sure how closely it hews to what actually happened, but it's a great scene nevertheless: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fKt4lKimzrSXc3U.html

Saw them live twice and both times, the crowd started singing the song and by the 2nd verse we were singing louder than the band, so they stopped playing, let us finish the 2nd verse and chorus, turned the house lights on and gave US a round of applause before finishing the song.

It's actually their old sound. This was before the tragic accident that that caused Rick Allen, the drummer to lose his arm. After that their sound became more electronic. However they ALWAYS sounded great. and I have VERY much admiration and respect for the rest of the band, in that they stuck by Rick as he recovered, and learned to play drums with one arm and changed his entire approach to playing. They could have very well taken a different approach and got a replacement drummer. Instead they supported Rick and stood by and behind him every step of the way. For that they will always have my respect. And to Rick, who could have just give up, but no, he was determined to continue, and grow both as a person, and as a musician.
