An amazing sighting of the Enkoyonai lion pride in the early morning as they got themselves a warthog! Despite there being a large clan of hyenas surrounding them the lions and their cubs finished their breakfast with minimal interruption!

God! Can you imagine the kind of pain that warthog is feeling until it finally dies?? What a painful way to go, man. Being eaten while you’re fully conscious. I was so glad when it finally stopped screaming in pain.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like we have a soon to be king, lion cub with an attitude problem around the 10 mimute mark. Trying to show Mom and aunty who is boss. Ha! Then the coveted cautious approach at 15’minutes (this is the head lioness with a portion of her right ear torn off) ending in a surprise free bee. And the best. At 18.25 you have two lioness, back left and back right, vying for position and ownership of a big chunk of bone, just holding their ground for about 30 seconds. The lioness back right succumbs. Leaving the final lioness with the biggest piece of bone and an opportunity to create an escape plan. And so the other two lionesses finish up. Then it’s just the cubs and her. She lets the little ones get a few more nibbles in. Then she’s off. Well done. Another tidbit. The first lioness off the kill was the last one to start eating. The head lioness here leading the pride has the shortest amount of time chowing down. But I’m sure she is just happy that the pride is eating. It’s great to see how they interact with each other. I love seeing this lions thrive. Pretty cool.

This was an awesome sighting Rob. I'm surprised that there wasn't more snarling than what we saw and heard. The little cubbies high pitched snarls - trying to act like their mums. Mum will have a time cleaning that one who was covered in blood. They will definitely be in search for more food. That warthog was their morning snack. The looks on those Hyenas faces. So close, but no cigar. Thanks for the video.

To all those sensitive people. The warthog was already in shock once the lion caught it. So it wasn't suffering from pain. That part of the brain was shut off. All part of nature....

I am worried about these lion cubs having 20 hyenas staying nearby. Hyenas are smart. They always walk by other animals casually pretending that they would not do any harms to other animals, but they are actually investigating the targeted victims and the hunting conditions. It is for sure that these hyenas have noticed their potential preys, these lion cubs, in this pride, and they are just waiting for the right time to strike. I hope that these adorable lion cubs are able to make it to adulthood.

The heck are you on about? Spotted hyenas are extremely tolerant of other predators, those lion cubs will be quite ok, hyenas have been filmed eating from a carcass with vultures, jackals, lioness's, leopards etc. they are very good at sharing, they do not actively hunt out the babies of other predators, unlike lions who slaughter the mother cheetah and her adorable cubs 😥 plus lions kill leopards and hyenas, they will hunt them, kill them not for food! Hyenas are only opportunistic, but are far superior hunters than lions or leopards, having an 85+% kill ratio! If a clan of hyenas are after you, well you (zebra, wilderbeest etc.) are doomed!

True,I saw a bunch of videos when they getting close,and they approach like humble with they head downs like they just want no problem.

Looks like they hyenas were wanting scraps. They weren't thinking of cubs at that time.

At least lions try to suffocate their prey first. Compared to wild dogs and hyenas, it’s less “gruesome” if there’s such a thing. Those guys will eat you alive 99% of the time.

Lions use suffocation to subdue their prey, but if they have the numbers the others aren’t going to wait. They don’t suffocate them to minimize their suffering, it’s just an effective way to subdue and kill the animal faster. Hyenas and wild dogs generally don’t have large enough jaws to suffocate their prey, generally exhaust their prey before they catch them, and animals die pretty fast when they are into several parts in a matter of seconds. Shock sets in fast and massive blood loss the way wild dogs kill.

It never fails to amaze me just how long these warthogs stay alive after half....or more...of their bodies have been eaten yet still be alive. Unreal.
