I loved watching this process. It is so instructive to watch you work, and hear your reactions. I really have learned so much from you, Robyn. The effect of using the same stencils over and over, limiting the palette, brayering off on the set of pages you are working with is really instructional. I have had a gel plate for years and watched many videos, but your work has really helped me develop my skills in a way no one else has. I think it is actually seeing how sparing you are with paint on the plate. Anyway, I just love you, bless you and thank you for being so generous in sharing your expertise with those of us who simply do not have the wherewithal to be patrons.

OMG you are after my heart! 💕 I love Venice for that reason and often times I try to emulate the color palette of that watery realm. I remember the first time years ago that I turned the corner and came across the Fortuney shop I nearly lost my mind! I’m often seeking to replicate those dreamy earthy warm colors ❣️✨

I’ve never been to Venice but would love to see it in the flesh. If I went, I think I’d probably break the camera by taking so many photos!! The architecture and art are out of this world. Sad to think the whole thing is slowly sinking. I am another who adores old walls and things in a state of decay - I’m also a rust addict lol! All those textures and colours… Someone once posted a photo of a carnival mask she’d brought back from Venice and I did a Zentangle inspired art version of it and sent her a copy. She was thrilled. So much rich culture there - I love their mediaeval costumes and all the colours.

Just a comment on gel plates and getting them to release those great bits of leftover paint. I unashamedly don’t follow the “put the plate back in the clamshell” instruction (except for the very small plates). It’s just a pain, especially when I use the extra large plate. I just put the larger gel plates on a glass cutting mat or acrylic mat and cover the exposed flat surface of each with one of the thin plastic sheets that the manufacturer provides. The plates stay perfectly usable-if they give me any trouble releasing the paint it means the plate is just a little thirsty. At the end of a printing session I simply spread a thin coat of mineral oil on the top surface of the plate (which is just baby oil without the fragrance) (I keep some decanted from the bottle it comes in into a little plastic bottle with a nozzle that dispenses drops) before I pop on the plastic sheet. By the next morning the oil has absorbed and the plate is beautifully refreshed. If I still have a problem with the paint releasing as I want it to, I just repeat the oil process.

I agree 100 percent. I get cross with my hubby when he describes what I do as “craft.” This is ART. I am a newbie gel printer and am absolutely loving it. The grungier the better. I am currently working with a limited colour scheme of browns, cream, a bit of black and gold, and working on pages in what I call my Organic Journal that my hubby bought for me - the cover is embellished with leaves and bark etc.. I love those colours. Robyn is such an inspiration.

My story, too! I’m quite a newbie as well. I’m in South Devon. Shame we can’t get some of the products they have in the US, like the Blick celadon, but I’ve ordered some Golden Titan Green Pale which looks like a pretty good equivalent colour. Isn’t Robyn awesome? I also binge watch FroyleArt - she is amazing. I first saw the bathmat on her videos and got one from Ebay.

Just gorgeous, Robyn! As a newbie gel printer I’m learning so much and can understand why people say this is so addictive. “In my world there are no waste sheets” lol lol Not in mine, either! Watching another video of yours I instantly spotted the bathmat in use - I’ve got this too, from Ebay, after seeing Froyle using it and knew I just HAD to get it! The first print is pretty good but the ghost print from it is just awesome. Having seen you today I know I’ve got to look out for a sink mat, too! I’ve been a texture junkie for years and this is just feeding my addiction big time! Unfortunately I can’t get the Blick celadon paint here in the UK, but I’ve ordered some Golden fluid in Titan Green Pale which is a close equivalent. None of the other paint manufacturers seem to make a celadon green. You have reminded me to dig out my Indian wood blocks too! There is no limit to one’s creativity. We all have loads of things in our studios that can be pressed (pun intended) into service on the gel plate! Yesterday as I was watching one of your videos you mentioned the Voynich manuscript and I’ve printed out lots of images and have already started using them in my collage. Thanks for all the cool inspiration!

Venice! I am so in love with old ruined fresco, and the aesthetic of a restored, re-loved villa. Nothing fancy, just beautiful age effects, and all that. Coincidentally, I was split screening, with the Fortuny site, looking at their velvet patterned shawls... and they go together so well. I had an idea, your papers could all be joined and turned into a hanging room divider. ( cause I was trying to think of how to see and use both sides) I don’t know your process but I would almost want to finish-coat them with a mix of beeswax and something else, to turn them more fabric like. I am currently mainly confined to everything but the kitchen and bathroom in one room, which I am trying to divide into studio space and living/sleeping. so I have been thinking ‘room divider.’ long ago, I used to have white cotton blinds, with thin wooden rods, like a roman shade. Loved them. Two of these hung from the ceiling makes a really nice room divider. But these are like old fabrics.... beautiful. It looks like you might build up some gorgeous skins on the plate also. Do You?

Hello Olhamo! As I was viewing a recent comment, I stumbled upon yours from nearly a year ago, I apologize I can miss a lot of comments, but I really love this idea, you're so right, fabric like, wall hangings so inspiring, and an encaustic beeswax finish would be amazing! Thanks for sharing your ideas and I hope you were able to settle your studio space. I know how important that can be. Happy Creating! :)
