Great video. I own a Boss Dogtrotter and have been very pleased with it. I'll walk my dog for 5 miles, come home and he wants to jump on the Dogtrotter and burn rubber. I am moving up to the Basic Pro Trotter and can't wait. Great looking dog!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Electric treadmill vs. Slatmill... It seems from my online research that a slatmill is often recommended as the best option. Many suggest it's the right choice for dogs because it allows them the freedom to move at their own pace without forcing them. HOWEVER, Considering my dog is 7.5 years old, I'm not looking for him to sprint or run at high speeds. I've observed with the slatmill that I need to actively motivate him to jog. It feels somewhat odd to stand there cheering for my dog for 10 minutes straight (as seen in a recent video)... On the other hand, with an electric treadmill (as shown in a video from a few years back), where he has a light jog for 20-30 minutes a day, he seems quite comfortable. He never attempts to jump off or avoid it... What are your thoughts on this? Which do you think is more beneficial for a dog of his age and activity level? Looking forward to your insights.

Hi. I do not think one is better than the other. It really depends on your situation and what your dogs needs are. A treadmill is just a tool. Different situations require different tools. From your comment it sounds like an electric treadmill would be great for your dog. If you go to my blog on my website there's an article discussing the differences between the different types of Treadmills. It might be worth a read. Thanks

I only wish my trotter ran that smooth. The newer models have no belt. Retention in the tracking is all over the place.. I have had mine for about one point five years and have had nothing but problems with the belt tracking with no resolution.

Hello Andy, I'm just curious who told you to put WD40 on the belts ? Or is this just for this mill's belt? I'm sure you are aware the logic to grease but are you also aware what else the grease will do, to anything is applied to? In retrospect I think it's an oxymoron saying it will make something "slip" easier but not cause issues as time go.

Bob Lummus from Dog Trotter. Since this video his mill designs have changed. The hubs are now discs and they do not require anything.

Hello. What material is used for runing ladder? Is it plastic or it is strong rubber? Thanks in advance!

Lemm touted having the freeist spinning mill on the market. How does this one compare when it comes to spinning freely?
@CanineAthletes4 жыл бұрын
Nothing spins like a Lemm mill. I have one. It's a real dream. With that being said, people love to talk about 'free spinning' like that is the only way to condition a dog. That just isn't true. There is more than one way to skin a cat. DogTrotter is the best mill being produced today, by a country mile. Thanks
@markballard15154 жыл бұрын
@@CanineAthletes Thanks for the quick response. I was hopeful that you would respond at all. You're right, but I would like to use varying levels of resistance with virtually none as the cornerstone of my program. Is the Trotter Classic comparable to theRed River Curly. Not in overall quality, but in how freely it spins.
@CanineAthletes4 жыл бұрын
@@markballard1515 hey man. The newer models of DogTrotter spin really nice. The main difference I have seen between the DogTrotter and the Red River is the weight of the belt. DogTrotter has a much heavier belt. It increases the durability considerably but it also makes it a little harder to get going at first. Once it's spinning it's nice and free, but once the dog slows down you will notice the weight/momentum of the belt. With that being said, I'd recommend a DogTrotter over the old RRC. They are in two different classes.

I live n a apartment would this be to loud for my neighbors. I have a 2yr old Malinois that would love this on rainy days
@CanineAthletes4 жыл бұрын
They are much quieter than the old school mills. If you go to our website, you will see the new 2020 mills which are even quieter than the mill in this video. With that being said, when the dog is at a full sprint they do make some noise. So long as you aren't training in the middle of the night I would think it would be fine.

Can you help? I’ve got a dog trotter Evo Pro Dog Trotter and the belt keeps running to one side. The belt has been sprayed with lubricant but it still happens. Dog Trotter haven’t been that helpful. Really frustrated. Can you help with this issue?
@CanineAthletes Жыл бұрын
Dog Trotter should be able to help, but if you purchased it used from someone else then that's probably why they sold it. Is it an older one with the steel hubs like in my video or the new style with the plastic discs?
@jenniferkirk1030 Жыл бұрын
I purchased directly from Dog Trotter. It’s the same as yours with Steel hubs. The only thing Dog trotter advised was to adjust a bolt behind front leg which hasn’t helped. Very disappointing on sick an expensive machine.
@CanineAthletes Жыл бұрын
@@jenniferkirk1030 did you buy it from them or used? He hasn't made them with steel hubs in many years. Might be worth calling them directly and speaking with the owner. Maybe ask for a price for a tune up or new belt.
@jenniferkirk1030 Жыл бұрын
I purchased it from Dog Trotter as a new mill. I have had mill for about 3 years now. Definitely has steel hubs. By adjusting bolt head behind from legs makes no difference. I have contacted them again but they are not replying.

This looks like an indoor only mill. Could you store this mill on a patio with perhaps a tarp cover when not in use? Of course you would want to protect your investment, but the permanent indoor fixture is a miss for me.
@CanineAthletes4 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure. Or a garage. I have two in my barn. A tarp or what I have found works really well is a grill cover!
