Death grips is certainly hard to get in to, but knowing a bit about your music taste I'm sure there's the potential for them to become one of your favorite bands. Each Death Grips album has a completely different sound, although similar, don't get too settled yet, lol. But it's one of the reason we Death Grips fans love them. I actually have to thank death grips for getting me in to hip hop from rock. I'd recommend you next listen to their albums 'Jenny Death' and 'Exmilitary', because they have the most rock elements (Exmilitary actually samples band like Pink Floyd and Black Flag.). I suppose I could explain some things about the Death Grips 'lore' so you can understand the project and lyrics more. The band is comprised of three members: Andy Morin (producer), Zach Hill (math rock drummer from the band Hella), and the rapper MC Ride, or Stephan Burnett, a African-American man in his forties, who comes from a fine art background (he is an amazingly talented painter, worth checking out his work). He's also seemingly deep in to the occult (mostly the dark side). From what I understand he set out to express his experience and the darkness, horror and anger within him by creating a character named MC Ride, screaming poems about him.

When it comes to their live shows, they're batshit insane and crazy, you'll hear the full sound of their drummer in those live performances, he's also absolutely mental, but it's speculated that they as a band are either done for or on a longer hiatus (they don't have your typical band-fan relationship with their fans), mainly because the members are doing individual projects now. As for videos of live performances, I don't think you can go wrong with anything, but have one video where MC Ride (the rapper/singer) just fucking smashes a laptop by throwing the drummer's tom/snare at it lmao: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncWdlMiGntfYpIk.html

Glad you caught the Prodigy influence off rip. One of the best to do it. RIP Keith. Additionally, Carti and Death Grips contrast in a sense of WLR seems to be more about a celebration of yourself, flaunting your individuality and how pure uniqueness can gain you a lot of clout. Death Grips has a more introverted confidence to them. They know they have a unique thing on there hands except there’s more tones of existentialism and confusion towards 21st century living. Carti is like “fuck it, im here, I’m young, I’m a rockstar, where are the bitches?” If you wanted to make a basic comparison to genres Carti is like Hair Metal and Death Grips is Goth or Black Metal. DG also does a great job of carrying on the torch from bands like Black Sabbath, Black Flag and even Metallica in a sense of diehard fan base, classic merch and logos etc.

I’m very versed in the traditional hip hop of old school BIG, Tupac, Snoop, 2000s 50 cent lil Wayne Kanye, 2010s on Tyler drake etc etc. I’ve never heard anything this chaotic in the hip hop world (and I mean stuff the average fan would run into, if you’re aware and looking for this stuff I’d put you in a deeper fan level cause every genres has sub genres and twists of that to find out there if you dig enough). Really appreciate you digging the sounds on first listen. Again, thanks for the experience!

A lot of the people I’ve talked to about Death Grips including myself took a looong time to get into fully. At first I would just play a couple songs for my friends as like a novelty because it was so crazy at the time but the more I did that the more I actually started to truly enjoy the songs & dove into their entire discog (Edit) you weren’t lying about Prodigy, now I’m a fan. I really appreciate you putting us youngins on music we might’ve missed🤟

Your reaction when the chorus kicked in during "The Fever" was exactly the same reaction I had when I first heard that too. XD So happy you reacted to this album. Death Grips really had everything going for them back then. A truly edgy sound with mass market levels of production quality and incredible hooks. Also, I'm impressed that even as a fairly new hip-hop fan, you seem to get the appeal and intentions of the music you're listening to.

The unpredictable nature of their music is universal to all of their albums - which is something i really cherish with listening to them. Each album they do something new for the band, and something new for music in general, every album. I really would consider listening to their other albums, Exmilitary, No Love Deep Web, and Bottomless Pit (in that order). Would make for a great reaction and i always love hearing the first thoughts of people who haven't heard Death Grips. Hope you enjoy the next ones if you choose to listen!

Wow your channel is blowing up 😳 I found you when I was constantly refreshing new KZfaq content for Tyler every day so I’ve been here since maybe 70 subs, I remember I said something about death grips around your Cherry Bomb video and you’ve finally done it, thank you 🙏 But I definitely think you should dive into more of their discography, they are really cool to listen to, especially as an aspiring music producer myself, the sounds they come up with are unlike anything anyone else could do, at least compared to traditional pop music and a lot of their music is incredibly catchy, which just showcases how you don’t have to be the best singer or singer period to make catchy tunes, truly inspiring and maybe even a little revolutionary for the time with all the genre bending, something that’s been proven to have great success, from Tyler the Creator to Death Grips to Quentin Tarantino, a greater understanding and appreciation of/for multiple genres in your industry seems to lead to timeless works of art
