This is fantastic advice for every rank and a good way to try and tackle the game sense aspect of the game for a situation that players need to be comfortable with. Sitting at Champ 3 I can say that pretty much every mistake in the corner will lead to a goal or seemingly endless pressure on your team. I find it helpful for game sense to try and compare the game to an actual sport and for those of you that know hockey, putting the puck in the opposing team's corner is a strategy that is used often because it is safe (you can't get scored on when it's in their corner) and if you apply pressure they might make a mistake and suddenly you're in a really good position to score. One thing I wish someone told me earlier was that in RL at the higher levels you generally have two choices: boom it to safety or control it (with the goal being to flick it over one or get a 50/50 so you take a least one player out of the play with you). The issue is when you are in the middle which I label 'heavy touches'. Heavy touches are when you get a touch but it's not to safety and you cant get a follow up and is the equivalent of passing the puck to the other team so they can shoot on your net. I know this is long, but I think this is an underappreciated nuance of the game that will help you think the game well beyond the corners. You're way underrated man keep up the solid content! I'm tired of the obsession with ceiling shots and flip resets when you may get 1 chance per game in 3s to try and even attempt one. TL;DR Never give the ball/puck up for free... I wish someone taught this to the Leafs fml

My buddy shared this video to me. Finally. A guide with just the thing I want to work on. This is going to help me so much because I honestly suck at corner defense. Eventually I will get better at it because a lot of the corner events are situational and require different actions out of me, but at least I have something to go by now.

I’m currently 1800 in 2s and I have a small critique and you should have 4 zones with the third being Inside of net because it’s much easier to the save the ball from inside the net that’s coming from the corner preferably spilt zone 3 into a zone 3-1 and zone 3-2 for far post and inside post . Edit It a really bad habit to sit out of net that I still see in lobbies I get in to that’s why I post this

Good research and identifying mistakes - well presented too! I think it could have been emphasized stronger that you should always rotate back to what you call "Zone 2", but more specifically, rotating back post. All 5 of the major mistakes you identified are fixed by fixing back post rotation habits. Staying Under Ball - Make your hit/challenge, if you can't follow up with power, rotate back post so your teammate in Zone 2 can come clear. By sitting around under the ball with no momentum, you're taking yourself out of play. If you move out of the way, your teammate in Zone 2 / back post can actually come and get a useful hit or challenge on the ball. This will also lead to double committing and spacing issues. Double Committing - Your teammate in Zone 2 most likely has a better chance at the ball than you do which is why they went for it. You're probably staying under the ball too long - Rotate back post. Passing To Other Team - Especially in the examples you showed, this comes from hitting the ball when you don't have an angle to clear the ball. If you would have rotated back post first, you'd have had an angle to clear the ball. (As your Zone 2 training pack highlights) Whiffing - Pretty much the same reasoning as Passing To Other Team. Rushing a challenge at an awkward angle. Get yourself back post so you can challenge the ball head-on. Spacing - Exact same reasoning as double committing. By sitting back post, you have: - Space to get momentum and challenge the ball with power. - Coverage of the entire net without blind spots. - A position between the ball and the net. - Ability to challenge the ball head-on, rather than at an off angle.
