The Rode PSA 1 is a boom stand that will fit any standard microphone or shock mount. I purchased it after purchasing the Blue Spark and I will say that I have been extremely happy with it. The build quality is great and it has a wide range of motion. It doesn't make much sound when being moved and I think it is a great deal for the price. There are other boom arms out there that are cheaper but their build quality may lack. The Rode PSA 1 is solid and I would definitely suggest it to anyone who is looking for a boom stand that is relatively cheap and extremely reliable.

The 3/8 to 5/8 adapter now has a notch in the center so it makes removal of the adapter as easy as grabbing a penny if you don't have tools.. for some reason. If you have tools then a flat head driver will work for it as well. Just an update if anyone was wondering or if they think they got it stuck.
@ramiwadala1326

for the adapter thing you will se two notches, they're made for being used with a flathead screwdriver if it does get stuck. I've wasted to much time trying to get those out to let anyone else fall into the same situation

Thank you for the review man! I was wondering how much the rode can be pulled forward, I mean, the angle at the base. Can it get really low? Does it go something like 45 degrees forward, or is it kind of fixed? If it goes, does it still hold a heavy mic well in that setting? Thank you!

Very helpful video, I wish to mount the same way you have coming over the monitor. What size monitor do you have? I have 24" so hoping there is enough room, perhaps could you could help me and measure the maximum size from the table the base is on to the first joint (despite finding the manual and Google search I can't find absolute measurements. Thank you again keep up the good work P

Amazingly, this stand does not work out of the box with a Shure SM7B (yes - an industry standard voice mic). I know this because I that's what I got the stand for. The problem is the way the 7B is constructed with a side bracket boom attachment. The XLR plug sticks out and impedes mic rotation on the PSA 1. To get around this I had to buy something called a Shure A26X desk stand extension tube. Basically a 3" piece of threaded tubing you attach between the mic and the boom that allows the PSA1 to function normally. Thank goodness such a thing exists. I had to figure this out myself as this adaptor isn't specifically made for the SM7B. I think Rode should either include such an adaptor or at least mention this problem and its solution in the manual.
@jamisthebest123
@jamisthebest123 8 жыл бұрын
the sm7b isnt an average shaped mic...this'll hold almost any other mic out of the box with a shockmount or mic clip
@kipling1957
@kipling1957 8 жыл бұрын
+Buzzy AM Well, that would be fair enough if they listed it as being incompatible. Also, we're not talking about some obscure voice mic - the SM7B is quite fairly described as an industry standard dynamic radio mic for which a desk boom is pretty standard required kit. You would think it would be one mic that would be field-tested for this product! Anyway, I devised a fix, with no help from Rode, so all's well that ends well, as they say.
@jamisthebest123
@jamisthebest123 8 жыл бұрын
I honestly think Rode was expecting people to use their Podcaster or Procaster with the boom arm. LOL they dont wanna help out the competition.
@kipling1957
@kipling1957 8 жыл бұрын
I'm sure Rode care about their products. However, it is also Rode's responsibility to provide a comprehensive enough description of any product so that potential customers can fully evaluate its suitability for a particular use. For example, if you had a Shure SM7B mic (a popular broadcast studio mic) and was looking for a desk stand, there is no way you could predict the Rode stand would not work without modification, given the information that Rode provide. Fortunately I was able to turn on my brain having bought the stand, to find a workable solution (see above) which is why I share this information with other SM7B users.

This is a problem I have seen on a couple 1 star reviews at amazon and I am curious if it's just a lemon and you should try and get a replacement or if the build quality has gone down. This video is like 5 years old. I have seen a lot of people singing the praises of this boom arm, but there are also a lot of horror stories as well. It seems like you might of just gotten a lemon.
