@@endlessvoid7952 It's not because it relates to physics it's because he developed many of the first tricks that lead to street skateboarding like the ollie, kickflip, heelflip, and 360 flip, While isolated. I remember either watching a video or reading something where Rodney was talking about how his dad did not want him to skate, because he was a dentist and had to work on kids who messed up their mouths skateboarding, so he moved them to a remote place where he was separated from the contest circuit and could not compete or compare his progression with others. Where he developed the tricks mentioned above. Like Isaac Newton who worked on some of his influential work in calculus while isolated by the Great Plague of London.

Round 3 though....one of the sickest tricks Rodney does a BS crook nollie v heel out on a forklift prong, makes less sense than any of the primo tricks at the end, which are Godly. And he has that weird way of forcing the trick while maintaining perfect posture so it just looks like he's trying yet it's easy. Rodney is one of those rare humans you hear about in folk tales. A person that came along and had a profound understanding of something, having an innate understanding of their specific field so concentrated it's as if he's channeling the universe itself. His attention to craft is like that of Canibus in hip hop, Hendrix to guitar, Michelangelo to art, Michael Jordan to basketball.

@New Keys Let's see, i started skating in 1986. Freestyle was a niche. I used to skate freestyle and street and i actually owned Rodney's Chess board and a Kevin Harris. Rodney was the only thing that made it cool. Freestyle wasn't popular and it eventually died. When it died Rodney had nothing to do, Rodney wasn't a street skater, but Mark Gonzales is the guy who those the elements to make Street skating what it is. You name it....Gonz did it. Steve Rocco and Gonz took Rodney and pulled him out of the death of freestyle, and he rode for World. iLook i love Rodney to death but the Gonz's contribution is recognized by the people who were there and saw it. Rodney Mullen wouldn't be as recognized today if Gonz / nautas etc. didn't evolve his freestyle tricks. Older people who were there sometimes see the whole picture. I'm not discounting your opinion because i respect what you have to say.

I met him on accident in my little hometown in Germany in the late 90’s .We were driving to my “skatepark “ with 3 obstacles. There was only one guy skating and I said to my friend from inside the car : “This guy looks like Rodney !” My friend answered:” No way ....never In my whole life ...!” He did one of his signature moves & things were clear then! What is he doing here in our “backyard spot “? We walk towards him & he was so kind! Unbelievable! My friend didn’t say anything ,turned to stone ...so stoked he was !^^ We had a little session! It was like a dream! I got my camera from home & took a few photos ! There are still on my wall to this date! One of that moments I never felt so alive !!! Thanks Rodney ❤️

That's something you learn in a basic elocution class, they do exist and are standard in majors like communications or liberal arts. Using "uh" or "um" is a clear indication of a lack of education, even though it isn't a measure of intelligence. It has a clear parallel for example to people who need to read out loud, in comparison to those who can read in silence.

Rodney - you will forever be embarced by the community, even if its just for you love, passion and kindhearted nature. Never mind your skills, creativity, what you did for the industry, the fact you're probably personally resonsible for 80% of the entire early 00's skate population boom outside of the states. You're the reason I'm on a board still and I'm now at 30. You humbly inspire us all.

Much love to you Rodney. Thank you for all the inspiration you have given us. Inspiring talk too. 🙏🏼 If you decide to go out more to skateboard related communities, parks, meet-ups etc, I think people would greet you with so much gratitude and respect everywhere you go. We’ve all seen skaters grow older by now. It’s normal. I think seeing older skaters still skate, still challenge themselves is just as inspiring as seeing younger generations shredding it, or a beginner nail their first kickflip. Skateboarding is the rarest “sport” where you truthfully with all your heart WANT your opponent to nail the trick, so that the game of skate can go on forever.

Maybe, but skating for me, and a lot of people I know well who skate a lot, use it as almost a means of meditation. You go out to a spot by yourself and stay there for hours on end in 'your own zone' just learning a new trick or a couple new tricks. The best skaters in the park are the ones who are usually by themselves, bit awkward, just going hard. That, plus skating has always been a bit of a rebel thing to do. It annoys people when you stay at a spot too long, for whatever reason (too loud, you break shit, people can't use a stairs because there's 'these skaters there', etc.). That, plus some other shit, has made skating into this rebel thing as well, like society doesn't want you to do it, some feel like skaters act as if 'they own the place' sometimes or whatever, when in actuality you just want to do your thing.

@@Mastersteef123 You say a "truth" this is focus , but my point is the compañerism in others skaters , the actitude of a person change a trick , if you have a good vibe and share this with others , you and the skate make magic , maybe underst my point , is a mental status , compañerism not damage your talent

When I was about 13 years old, I got the chance to go to a demo in which I got to meet and skate with Mullen after the demo. I've met MANY of famous ppl due to working in the French Quarter for years, but I have never been "star struck" or proud to have gotten to meet Mullen. Yea, it was cool to meet other famous stars n shit but getting to meet a legend and someone you consider your biggest idol and inspiration is unparalleled to have gotten to meet anyone else in the world. I will NEVER forget that day. That day, even tho I was new to skating at the time, changed the way I perceived skating and pushed me to give it my all and become as good or the skater that I became. Rodney...you are a true legend and definitely my biggest hero since that very day.

Think about it this way: If his ego was that big, he probably never would've become the inventor-godfather who he is. It appears the most beautiful and virtuous advanced human beings in almost every era have been the most selfless, who didn't put their false sense of self ahead of doing their craft the right and honest way. Peace.
