Theses guys put in the miles when training early season training was about time on the bike, quite a lot of it was on their own, no drafting, but also no incentive to go too hard, most of it was on 42-16 60-70 RPM. From memory De Vlaemink did regular 400 km days training for Roubaix. It was about training the muscle and the capillaries to handle the loads early in the season. Then upping the game later on. Riders from back then raced so much the racing was actually a part of the training. It was all about the bike no weight training just hard slog and mental toughness, the will to better Merckx also helped De Vlaemink was one of the few who felt Merckx was beatable. I also agree that it was a wasted interview, it seems the questions are off the top of her head. When you get the opportunity to interview legends like him you have to do your homework and prepare beforehand meaningful questions, there is so much more that could of been learned.

I like this guy's bluntness. Next to my idol Indurain, Vlaeminck is it!

De Vlaeminck was great but he wasn't even close to 500 career wins. His career lasted 15 years (he retired in 1984) and he had 257 victories.

Where did they get this interviewer? How many times does she try to bait Roger into saying negative things about a particular rider or generation of riders? What a wasted opportunity with a great champion. Thumbs up for Roger. Thumbs down for Orla.

With the presenter facing to the right, why don't they wear the mic on the left? Seems such an obvious thing.

"Do today's riders lack class?" RdV- "yes" Perfect. Race radios... throw away bikes... team buses... coddled riders with stupid facial hair... RdV could beat Sagan 8 times out of 10
