I think it’s because you can’t just try a little bit of Frank, and then get back to it later… you have to jump in, stay in, and stay focused on what’s happening!! And in my case start studying his work. One of my older friends always played Zappa, but would turn it off when I got there, because he thought i wouldn’t like it! 50 albums and videos later, i ended up teaching him a lot about Frank!!😁✌🏼🎶Frank it up!!!

Not to disparage Mom's cooking but think of a time when you got to try something completely different (for me King Crab, Chile Relleno and Hibachi cooking come to mind) that you really liked and you enjoyed it so much that you wanted to try everything that you could from that style of food or cooking. There's a lot of folks who just don't enjoy or appreciate something different, unique and wonderful that way. Similarly there are just a lot of folks who just want the same mass produced basic musical hamburger. Since Frank created many varied styles, Doo Wop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Experimental if you like someone enough to try and "convert" them try exposing them to some FZ that's in a style they appreciate. Also try to learn to recognize boring burger burnouts and just avoid 'em (look up teaching a pig to sing for added clarity). Finally, there are true fans from all ages. nationalities and walks of life out there. They are a bit fewer and farther between but they are there. To boost your moral check out some of the new wave like The College Rhythm Orchestra kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e5aAqpqStavQoXU.html , The Berklee College of Music www.berklee.edu/berklee-now/berklee-frank-zappa-tribute-wakajawaka-inca-roads-peaches-en-regalia-zomby-woof and the UH Hilo Jazz Orchestra kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ecuAf7V4yLPeZY0.html . Then there's the obvious. Dweezil is touring the Apostrophe 50th Anniversary now. Dweezil & Co. are amazing & you're guaranteed a Zappa Freak audience. FZ4EVER !

+John Hamilton You have a point. How to compare Frank's musical contribution with his son's incredible effort to learn and keep on playing Frank's music? I hope that he shows us some gems that were never popular or even known by most fans. Now that, apparently, all of his works will be published after Gail's death. What a gal!

+John Hamilton that's a joke, right? Without the Dweez, the music would still be alive. Don't really see anything badass about him, to be honest. The whole show lacks eyebrows, and Dweez never striked me as a great thinker, satirist or someone with a sharp wit.

John Hamilton: Only partially correct I'm afraid. The best thing Frank created, by a million miles, is The UMRK Archives! Which unfortunately is now in the hands of utter muppets! He should have left it to The Smithsonian! Gail Zappa has a lot to answer for! She blew it big time!

In my opinion Dweezil is doing a great job with playing close to FZ's incredible guitar sound. The rest of the band on the other hand sound like they are just playing sheet music. FZ had some extremely unique and creative people in his bands, Dweezil should do the same and care less about playing all the right notes.

Frank might understand and appreciate Dweezle's admiration for his music. But I would think his advice (if he ever offered it) was " find YOUR voice and put it out there". Nevertheless, it's a good thing that Dweezle is sharing his dad's music with younger people who may not come across it otherwise. Dweezle has the best Zappa cover bands ever.

I've had the good fortune to see Frank and Dweezil play many times. Frank and his various bands were wonderful back in the day when he was considered eccentric by many pros and fans. Even so his music was timeless and perfect. Dweezil and his various bands play Frank's music, but with a cautionary twist. It's not note for note, and it shouldn't be. His son is interpreting Frank's music with flair and dignity. I've seen ZPZ 12 times all over the world with many different cast members. This is as good as it gets folks. Seeing them, just like Frank in small venues up close and personal is magic. If they ever come to your town..... See them at all costs! Carry on ZPZ!

Seen Dweez 4 times now in England. And every time he has blown my mind. As his father before him, he doesn't know how much these tunes have affected so many. This is other worldly to many dumb mortals. But for those that know what is involved, it is pure musical bliss. Glad I'm one of those that understand the skills involved.

The Dweez is a great musician, and superb guitarist. He sentenced himself to live in the shadow of his father's giant ouvre in order to do justice to his unique body of work. This takes immense bravery, and an even deeper humility. I bow before this man.

You don't know how much I appreciate this, to have a live, contemporary rendering of Frank's genius. I've been around for awhile, but didn't get into Frank until maybe the last five or six years or so, so I never saw him playing live, except from past recordings, of course. And to see it live, as it's happening with GREAT musicians is just a sight to behold and a gem to put into my box of priceless experiences. I knew of Frank growing up, but I was more of a metal guy, so didn't venture out much, but since 2000, when I say the music died, at least for me, KZfaq has been a blessing. Since I've rediscovered Frank and gone deep into his catalogue of genius, I've binged. It takes me about 3-4 months to go through his 80 recordings (and KZfaq live gems), but when I'm done, I just start over again. Thanks Dweeze and God bless you all. RIP big guy. Love!

I was fortunate enough to see FZ live three times; twice at the Uptown in Chicago '80 & '81 (including the panty quilt tour), and lastly at the Tower in Philly in '88 (on Valentines Day!). It was great every time, especially the last, Frank really played with the audience that evening. All that said, Dweezil is the closest it gets and heir apparent. They do have the benefit of an immense catalog and all the recorded arrangements from which to draw, but to pull it all off so masterfully is the best tribute to FZ I can think of. I think he'd be pleased. Of course the icing on all of this is the improvements in how well it's all captured and presented, even since the 80s. The fidelity of the mix and video are astounding by comparison. It's comforting to know Frank's musical legacy is in good hands.

maybe a lot of people found his music "funny and comedic" but i've been listening to zappa since "freak out" and every consecutive album since. and while it was funny on the surface if one uses ones brain and digs in the brilliant musicality and social commentary are spot fuckin on right down to his unbridled use of the word "fuck" on record or onstage, something absolutely unheard of but frank being the musical maverick he was took a proverbial bat to the current social norms of the day, put the heat to the social jiffy pop and shook the fuck out of it for all its worth and broke down and exploded all the preconceived notions of what life was really all about back then and continued to do so until he couldn't anymore ....... and while it's totally admirable to keep his dads music alive "in the family " so to speak , it would be nice to see another zappa pick up and "grab those reins" on the oft mentioned "pygmy pony" and all over the desert of conformity and trample it underfoot with mucho gusto, he is, after all , a zappa...

I've seen Dweezil four times and took his master guitar class. He is such a classy dude and he represents his father so well. Nonetheless we must recognize his personal skill as a guitarist. He is not derivative; he's unique, just like his father. You put Frank on any top xx list and you have to put Dweezil on it too.

Here's your baseline if you want to be a pro in the music biz these days. Every one of them a virtuoso musician. And, they've committed all of it to memory, just like his father's bands all did. It's fascinating to watch and incredible musicianship from everyone. The apple didn't fall far from that tree...

I love all of the performances on this recording, and especially San Ber'dino, which in my view is one of Frank Zappa's greatest compositions. Dweezil's playing, so well heard, is wonderful. And the keyboard player, whoever he is, is a master.

When about 13 years old - I heard Zappa for the first time. I was at my cousins house (mid-seventies) and she said "hey listen to this (before I actually started to play guitar) tell me what you think." I was blown away - not because of the genius / musicianship, but because of the "crazy" MIX of the genius and musicianship! I was completely "weirded" out by it. At first, I thought it was ugggg, then I thought it was non-sense, then I came the "you gotta be high" to get it, then came ..... BOOM - after listening to several albums I understood this to be from a completely different level far surpassing anything I had heard before (or since) because of the "mind" needed to put this all together. I still am in bewildered when I hear it today. As a player and musician now, I still have a hard time grasping the mental genius needed to do this. Playing it is one thing - COMPOSING it is another.

Our local guitar hero who everyone wanted to be friends with so they could pick his brain LOVED Zappa. To a 15 year old in the late 70s who worshipped EVH, I really/really dreaded listening to Zappa. This guy told me it was over my head, complex, hard/impossible to explain, funny but intelligent.. He was RIGHT. Jump to 2023. Now 60, I find Zappa's music interesting, like chocolate/ mint dipped oysters with a dash of grinded up packing styrofoam.

Frankie can watch down from heaven and be so proud of what his kid has accomplished. Talk about evolving and improving himself as a musician to the utmost, Dweezil has done it: from the time he released his first solo album and the collaboration with his girlfriend back then, Lisa Loeb, to this show, WOW !! ... sure, he had some great heavy metal chops that Steve Vai taught him, nobody ever questioned that he had the technique and the potential, but the sensibility and virtuosity he has today in his improvisations, man ... it took his father's music to bring it all out of him. It all started with the first ZPZ band 10 years ago and even in that period you can tell a vast improvement. Way to go Dweez !!!!! your daddy's soul now continues to live in you, Keep up the amazing work !!

This is a great Concert and thanks to Dweezil for keeping his dad's music alive. I have seen Frank at every concert he has ever played in Atlanta, Georgia including the ones in Georgia before he started playing in Atlanta. I believe they were in Athens and Macon, Georgia in 1970 or 71 maybe. Have been a Zappa fan since the late 60's. My first expensive guitar was a Gibson Cherry SG after seeing Frank play one live. He was a great guitarist as well as his son also. Lots of good memories listening to this concert. Hope to see Dweezil live one day while I'm still alive.

Fantastic show! Saw ZPZ in Adelaide South Australia in 2010, Dweezil had the same problems! Guitar not working! The band had played the first few bars and Dweezil was obviously frustrated and actually stopped the band, sorted his guitar out, apologised to the audience and the band and then started from the beginning! That show got me hooked on FZ and and I've been waiting six long years for ZPZ to come back to Adelaide.
