the way Thomas Rohler threw the javelin is brilliant in Physics point of view : ) he stopped his body by nailing his left leg 45 degree to the ground and transferring nearly all momentum to the javelin.

Some historians say that German means javelin man. Ger is an ancient German word for it. Javelin throwing is one of the core Olympic competitions, i.e. those which the ancient Greeks already performed. Winning it is extra awesome.
@Drecksdusler
@Drecksdusler 5 жыл бұрын
But 'Javelin' is a French word. Etymologically it doesn't make much sense to go from 'ger' to 'jav'. Plus in German this discipline is literally called 'Spear throwing'

that video title is wrong. Klaus Wolfermann was olympic champion in javelin throw in 1972- that is 44 years ago, NOT 80.

I remember watching this. When Röhler won it was like, 3am or smth in Germany. I was sobbing in front of the tv lol. I actually am coming from near where he is training - so he is often in local media. He's humble, campaigning for javelin to have its place and be more known with the youth (bc we all know there are sports which are more famous), advocates loudly against doping -- and currently (March 2020) is also one of the many german athletes saying the Olympics need to be postponed, because right now not all athletes can prepare to their best.
