I went with the LX7 cause both have the same sounds and you can cover the controls which is nice if you are recording a video of a performance (I think when viewers don't know it's digital it just adds realism to the sound), other reason is you can place your iPad or sheet on a dedicated stand and not have to remove it to close the lid. Also I can place a light or laptop on top of it since it has a fixed top.

Really like your videos. What I think is more useful than just giving similarities are the differences. You say the weak point in these pianos is the speaker system but you don't spend much time on this essential point. Here is what I need to make a buying decision: speakers and power for the HP 503, HP505, HP507, LX7, and LX17. Very much appreciate your answer. Thanks

All of your videos were tremendously helpful with making my decision. I wish I'd had the opportunity to give you my business, but living in the us that wasn't a possibility . Ended up going with the Lx-7. The cabinet was nicer in person on the 7, the music rest is more convenient and the difference in sound wasn't that much and it didn't justify the hefty price increase in my opinion. Other models I considered and tried first hand : Yamaha clv585, kawai cs11 and cs 5.

What happened to the sound of the LX-17? I have been using it for 2 years now, and it has developed what I call disharmonies in all the keys of the octave above middle C. Sort of like a buzzing aftertone in this octave. And it is getting worse as time goes on. Is this typical of all Roland digitals?

Thank you so much for your review on LX series, Tony! Your videos are always so informative. In fact, I have always been considering purchasing a digital piano, preferably Roland LX17, Yamaha CLP585 and Casio GP500, for playing classical music by Chopin and Schubert. Which model do you think provides the most immersive listening experience (through speakers not headphones)?
@mhinca
@mhinca 8 жыл бұрын
An amateur here, I've compared the Yamaha and the Casio head to head, and GP500 won for me. Much better key action, and I preferred the sound as well. It seems to me as though Yamaha are reserving their best for their top end instruments, and in the meanwhile their mid range instruments are not as good as the closest competition top instruments for the same price. The CLP-585 simply wasn't as enjoyable to me, not only because of the action, which doesn't compare favourably to the Casio by far, but also the sound. To my ear, it lacks the depth. I am very eager to thoroughly try out the Roland LX pianos before making my purchasing decision, though. Based everything I've seen, read and heard on the internet, it seems like Roland is going to win for my needs.

Please make sure to post your thoughts if you get to play Lx. If available in your area you should try kawai cs 8 or 11 as well.

Hi boria, I went to see the Roland's importer shop and ended up purchasing the LX17. The LX7 would have been fine as well, but I decided to stretch the budget a bit for the luxury sound and looks. Couldn't have been happier with the decision, I play it every day and think Roland are pretty much clear winner in this price range. If there's anything you'd like to know about the instrument, just ask away.

1st of all thanks for a prompt response. Lx 17 would be extra 800£ more than lx 7 or gp 500 for me. So my 1st question is how did them two compare in your opinion since they pretty much the same price in UK. Question no 2. I'll be buying on finance. The difference between lx 17 and lx7 money wise for me will be paying 100£ a month over 36 months rather than 24 months. So it won't affect my monthly budget but obviously I'll end up paying more overall. Would you say it's worth it? I'm only just starting to learn so realistically I won't outgrow it for many years to come.
@mhinca
@mhinca 8 жыл бұрын
+boria0 You are not at risk of outgrowing either of the instruments over a lifetime. The important bits are identical, except LX17 is a bit more flashy. Not worth the 50% surcharge in my opinion. You can get a lot of piano lessons for the £1200 difference. :)

Has anyone played lx7 or 17 vs gp 300 or 500 and how do they compare?. I've done as much research as I possibly can and struggling to choose between them. I would add Kawai cs8 or 11 to the mix as well. I will be buying for learning purposes. I understand that dp offers some learning limitations vs acoustic but my question is do any of them limit you more than others?

Boria, I've been doing the same research and from yamaha or kawai (or casio) have decided on the Roland for sound and key mechanism and blue tooth - 605 if money is short (less speakers) or like me mostly for practising with headphones, or Lx17 if you possibly can so that you don't have to change your piano as you progress and in effect have a concert grand to listen to. There is a 10 year guarantee on these pianos also - the other manufacturers offer 5. The 603 has all plastic keys. Yours sincerely Pam

Pianos are too subjective to depend on anyone else's opinion of the feel and sound than your own. Kawai fans will tell you Kawai's are best. Roland fans will tell you Rolands are best. Same with Yamaha. You create your own connection with an instrument, asking here is just asking for someone else's connection with that instrument. It may not end up being yours. So keep that in mind with all responses, including mine. I found that I didn't necessarily like the most expensive of all the manufacturers when I sampled them. The mid-level ones seemed like better values for the money. But, again, that's my opinion only.

Hi; in terms of sound (speaker cabinet) quality; where does the LX7 rate compared to yamaha clp585? I am only looking to use in my livingroom.
@benjaminsmith2287

I played the LX7 in a store. It seems smaller in person than it does in the picture. For some reason, I don't know if it is worth the price. The less expensive ones sound the same, the action feels the same, and really, except for the nice finish and powerful speakers, I'm not sure there is a real compelling reason to get it. Now, this may not apply to the LX17 and I didn't spend a great deal of time on the LX7 to really get a better understanding of the depth of it. So maybe the problem was with me, and I'll revisit it when I have more time to play it more. I also need to look into all of the customization it offers (but you get much of that on the lesser expensive models as well like 603 and 605.

Played an LX17 in a store. Getting to explore it more, I got quite varied piano sounds out of it. Ultimately, you can't go wrong with it and it comes down to preference. I turned down the ambiance and string resonance and that sound worked best with me. Roland turns up the piano characteristics, Yamaha turns them down and Kawai is somewhere in the middle. All great pianos. Still, in the store, I didn't crank the speakers and in this price range, the quality of speakers make them stand out.

Hi, Tony:) LX7 vs CLP545 , which one is better? I know LX7 is much more expensive, but what I love is classical music, so, which piano sounds more classical? THANKS in adavanced.

LX7 has a slightly "warmer" sound than Yamaha but I think it's to do with the speaker system rather than the raw piano sound.

Don't buy CLP-545!! I just got rid of mine after 2 years... The speakers are terrible. Only way is to play with headphones or external speakers. The piano sound is also very ''digital'' sounding. No life at all.
