GOT IT! Here's how you can trigger the internal click of the SPD-SX along with a backing track... Connect the Boss FS-5U foot switch to the SPD-SX with a STEREO 1/4" line and run it into the SPD-SX Foot SW 1/2 input. The stereo connection will trigger both Foot SW 1&2 simutaneously. Now all you have to do is set FS1 to your desired wave and then Menu>System>Pad FS Control> and set FS 2 to Click. The only drawback is that at the end of your track, your click will need to be turned off by "All Sounds Off".

A really helpful set of videos Ryan. I've had the problem of mis-triggering backing tracks and longer samples because of putting them on pads. This will stop me getting those looks from other band members when they hear backing track out of the monitors in the wrong part of the song. Boss footswitch on payday next week I reckon.

Hi mate, thanks for the tutorials, I am in a band that has been using Ableton as the live backing track launcher, however we were using an acoustic kit along with pre-programmed electronic hits. We are now looking to use full electric drums, and I am intrigued by the ability to upload a backing track and click to the SPD-SX. My only question is, how are your drums mixed live, as I can't see how they can be sent separately to the sound engineer?

My question is the same as Nicanors. I have been trying to do this without any luck. I can't believed that this is a function Roland would overlook!? Has anyone else found a way to do this?

Excellent series of videos. This is EXACTLY what I needed. I just bought the device today and happened to find what I needed on my first search. 1 question... What if all the band members want the click track coming to their in ear monitors? Wouldn't I then simply use the "sub" out to send a signal to the sound man and then have him send the click track back to each auxiliary/monitor feed? Is there a better way to accomplish this?

Nathan Redmon I do front of house in a small space and I don't recommend sending the click to the wedges. The people in the front can probably hear it, but if you're in a bigger space that could work. You could also just get a small audio splitter (headphone amp, tiny mixer, whatever) that you could send the sub out into, and have each band member wear a single in ear monitor. Then they could hear the wedges with the other ear. If you had a mixer that you push the sub out into, then you could have the front of house person give you a single monitor mix that you could blend with the click, and there would be no possible way that the audience could pick up on the click.

Awesome series and timely for me. One question... this series does seem to demonstrate how the pros do it, but what if the drummer is using in-ears, now his/her headphones won't be plugged into the Headphone out the Roland.

Hey Dave, a decent IEM amp should have focus mode so you take a mono send from the desk and cross fade it with a mono send from your SPD-SX headphone out. Alternatively send your Headphone mix to the monitor desk and ask him to send it back to you in your mix. Hope that helps...

I have a strange issue with mine. When I hit a pad fast a few times (like 32 notes), the backing track that is playing on the footswitch stops. So if I would do some tom fills on the SPD-SX for example, I might get the backing track stopped. Does this happens to anyone else?

Nice video's,just wondering,saw ya at the manchester hybrid clinic,very cool,i have now purchased the spd sx,"inspired ey?,lol,you created the click track?,how come you did'nt sink it to the spd sx's click,just want to know the reason,as i'm still spending many hours with the machine,importing,cropping,all the great stuff,thanks Ryan

Hey Paul, Enjoy the SPD-SX buddy.... The onboard click is great for some things but limited in other ways. Creating your own click track will give you a lot more flexibility. You can have multi tempo clicks and even clicks with audio cues to tell you what part of the song is next. Basically, it will give you a lot more options... Hope that helps mate...

Is is it possible to assign the backing track to PAD 1, and the click to PAD 2 for example and have the same effect once the pad link is in place joining the the two samples to trigger at once instead of using the foot switch?

Where do you route the triggers to????? Im using the SPD SX exactly as described in these series of vids...but not much on triggers on them....can anyone help?? Ive the click to phones... Track to sub out Pads to master out... So surely the triggers are gonna haft share one output??? Which would be best do you think?? Share with pads maybe??

i have the spds-30 it also has a footswitch 1/2 can this be attained with the fsu-5 for backing tracks?

Hi Ryan,great teacher :) I'm trying to use a SPD SX as a drum module connected to a Roland PM-16 trigger control(by midi in),connect my drum set to the PM16 and using samples(bass drum,snare,toms) online downloads.i wanna know, is it possible to play the beat manually along with another sample loop?I heard something bad, when u play the manual drum beat and trying to start the "percussion sample loop" on top of the beat ,the SPD SX is getting stuck...... ((((( is it happening ?

Hi Ryan - thanks for the great video series. Really well explained. I have a question related to backing track and click track syncing. Is it possible using the new Roland TM-2 to trigger both backing and click tracks and route to out and headphone? I have a TD-30KV that i use live, but want something small that will handle backing tracks only... Appreciate your advice pal!
