I own both the Sub and the YM (blue dial). The YM is exponentially a more luxurious watch compared to the Sub. Plus, it’s much more ‘special’ in that you seldom see the YM in the wild (you seem to see the Sub everywhere). Highly recommend!

It‘s a fantastic watch, but given the choice - and despite its overabundance - it would still be the sub for me.

The bi-directional bezel REALLY helps when done timing, to return the Bezel index exactly to the 12 o’clock position

It's a good watch, it will sky rocket in value when the line gets updated and that blue dial gets discontinued.

Its already updated a couple of years back from 116622 to 126622, basically movement update and Rolex crown at 6 o'clock and the discontinued platinum dial 16622 did not climb in price compare to the 5 digit Subs or GMTs... even weirder that OP and Air King is climbing in price and yet the YM is really just not going up...

YM all day, if you want to follow the crowd then go with the sub. But for similar money (grey) I'd choose the much more luxurious YM for sure.

Fair decision, the YM with its platinum bezel has indeed a more luxurious feel and, as you say, is way more special in a world where seemingly every third person is wearing a sub. I'd still go for the latter since I happen to genuinely love its design.

@@watchesinthewild8276 I have an Explorer which I love and have also tried on subs and GMT's (my family and friends). I tried on a YM and to me (all personal I guess) it felt totally different, just a whole new level. The colour of the dial, both rhodium and blue, love the platinum bezel, it has real presence and is so unlike any other dive styled watch. I far prefer it to any sub and I have tried on virtually every one bar the new blue one and a hulk.

@Paul Young I love the rhodium and blue YM, to me it‘s one of the best looking Rolexes ever (edged out only by the Cellini Prince in rose gold) - so I can’t fault you for your preference.

Having handled both I happen to respectfully disagree, I‘m in love with the bezel action of the Sub - however I totally see the appeal of the Yachtmaster. It‘s certainly the more interesting choice.

I own a black Sub and the Hulk. I also own the YM Rhodium. The YM is such a beautiful watch I get such a thrill wearing it. A similar thrill to the Hulk. Not so much with the black Sub but each watch has its moments and the black Sub fills a niche from time to time. If I had to part with one it would be the black Sub. It may just be me but I now look for that little special feature in my watches that brings me joy when I look at them. With the Hulk it’s the dial. The YM it’s the light blue seconds hand. I also didn’t think I’d like the polished center links but in the wrist the watch is simply beautiful.

Hi Andrew, thanks for letting us know about your first-hand experiences with these watches (man, what a collection!). I have to agree with you that the YM - especially the grey monochrome variant - is one of the most visually appealing Rolexes. The only two I would put up there two are the blue Milgauss (for its color combo that shouldn’t work but does) and the Cellini Prince in rose gold, which is extremely under-appreciated in my opinion and increasingly hard to find (have a little video about it too). Really happy for you to have such an AMAZING Rolex collection. Enjoy it for a long time to come!

With my Platinum "Winter Frost" Yacht Master it feels more comfortable on, similar to it my Daytona. You know what they say about owning a boat, that it will be the best day of your life is the day you buy your boat, and the next best day after that is the day you sell it. Well, the Yacht-Master is the best way I know of to avoid buying that boat and going down that rabbit hole.

This bezel in this Rolex YM is full platinum (bezel + insert) or only insert bezel (stainless steel 904l bezel + platinum 950 insert)? Thanks in advance.

Hi Supra, the bezel is indeed a massive piece of platinum, not only filled with platinum inserts like the Sub for instance.

Nice! I predict you won‘t be disappointed with the YM. Just was able to pick up a Milgauss Z blue, ridiculous but very charming watch.

As someone who owns both the sub and the yachtmaster, I feel the YM is on a much higher lever than the slab sided, blocky, basic and too common sub. Even fits better as it is slimmer and the case shape conforms better to the wrist. But hey, if you drink the coolaid, then you'll probably prefer the sub. YMMV.

I happen to much prefer the bezel action of the sub and just am a fan of the design - can‘t help myself even though I know it‘s a rather unoriginal preference. I have to say though that I really love the look of the grey monochrome version with that pop of blue.
