You have engineered something SUPER BRILLIANT and SUPER USEFUL. A thousand thanks for your idea. But you have only touched the surface here. You will reach an age where you will prefer riding a far more comfortable RECUMBENT BIKE. I suggest taking some out for a test tide. And then you will reach the age where you will have balance issues to the point where you will prefer riding a RECUMBENT TRIKE. Many of us have reached that point already. There are many baby boomers that now can only ride a RECUMBENT TRIKE comfortably and most importantly, SAFELY.!!!!! And for all recumbent TRIKE riders, your device will enable them to keep on riding indoors during the winter months when the nasty weather keeps them from riding inside. Excellent video.!!!

I have a set of Travel Trac technique rollers. I just actually finished the "free motion" mod today! They work great! I will post another video of me riding them soon, I can really hammer on them and sprint and the are as smooth as butter.

Thanks very much for the replies, will keep this in mind I had an idea myself, how about a flat peice of rectangle wood that is bigger than the roller Screw eight wheels to the underside of wood and fit this peice of wood into the frame that you have on the floor Attach bungie grips to keep the wood in the frame Then find away to just place the roller on top of the flat peice of wood but have an easy way to secure rollers to the wood This way you could use any roller without drilling the frame.

I had no idea what the hell this thing was and I have never heard of or seen one of these things before. It is a great idea but it looks so dangerous to me. But then again, I guess you are standing pretty much still the whole time. It looks really fun.

Great Job, I would have to say that is one of the smoothest DIY free motion rollers I've seen! If don't mind sharing, could you tell me what exactly what materials you used and the rough cost? I would love to do the same with mine, and love your design.

Thanks for saying that! I wish I had made a more detailed video Ok Drill holes, yes! Start with small drill bits and go bigger. I used 1/4 inch threaded bolts and some washers that are the size of the bearings in the wheels so they don't rub against the sides I built the wheels first then the I took the wood with the side rails and placed the up against the wheels so I could get the exact size, Then I put in the cross pieces They are Cycleops ! I change the bungies a couple times a year

If this idea is no good, I take it a metal frame is better than a plastic frame as I am deciding between the cyclops aluminium and an elite arion parabolic roller. Thanks again for your reply.

@fuzzjunk7 Thanks a lot! Just a bit of history; I would't have thought to make these until I went to the FreeMotion website and on t he page telling people that they have a patent on floating rollers and that If you make them at home you are violating patent infringement laws and blah blah blah. Like they were Apple or something. So I said "wow people are making these"! So I did some research and everything I saw was great, but I figured there would be away to strip this down.

Sorry for all the questions, just one more. When you take the rubber feet of the rollers are there all ready pre drilled holes for the wheels or did you have to do this yourself? I am not that technical minded but I think I should be able to do this. Thanks again for posting your video

Hi daggodog, first of all can I say that your home made version of the motion rollers are first class. If you don't mind I am going to copy your idea. From looking at your video I take it the rollers are CycleOps Aluminium Rollers, I just want to double check this before I buy them? Would it be a better idea to get a fixed frame rather than folding? Is there anything that you have changed from when you posted the video or is there anything else you think the you should have done?

Daggodog thanks for your great solution.

What would happen if any of the bungee cords broke or that center rod in the rollers where they attach? Also, how did you know how much free play to build into the design, i.e., how do you know how much the rollers need to travel max?
@synapse12513 жыл бұрын
The wheels would be caster wheels, sorry should have pointed that out.

What is the benefit or advantage of the rollers having the ability to move fore/ aft as opposed to a stationary, fixed roller frame?
@daggodog14 жыл бұрын
@Gyurza Well you can see by how much they move that is what they want to do. The problem with rollers is, is that they DON'T move . By setting them free I can stand, hammer etc... I can make videos if you need me too

Is the free motion stand making for more of a balance and exertive challenge? Is it to just feel more like actual road riding?

@fuzzjunk7 What Kind of rollers do you have? Ill post the exact way I made them. I sent that video to the Freemotion clowns too. I wouldn'thave thought to make them until I saw on their website that they were forbidding it. They really are so sweet and fluid. Im sure the freemotion ones are better. But not by much at all.

Nice, but your seat is too high.
@kennsanders95467 жыл бұрын
Doesn't this defeat the purpose of rollers? Rollers are designed to smooth out your peddling and to build core strength and ballance.

There are 4 bungy cords. If one failed you'd be ok. Also we made a better video. I'll post link. It's very detailed
