I needed this video. I kept thinking I had already purchased the plus subscription. Imagine my frustration when I couldn't figure out how to get Dynamic Lighting to work. So glad that you discuss step by step how to set things up, and you go over the uses of each of the different settings.

Update: My players and I played today, for the first time since I went pro for Roll20. They absolutely love the dynamic lighting I'm using for each isometric map I make, (from scratch) We have been playing a campaign the past 2 years, and been using the FoW option, with me gradually revealing the map as they move, but this is so much faster and smoother. I love it, I love d&d, I love Roll20.

Thank you! And yes, in the grand scheme of things, Roll20 needs to make improvements, not just with its features but with the way it handles non-5e games and how they market those products.

I’ve been considering upgrading Roll20, but thought dynamic lighting would be agro, and how do I work it with imported map??? Looks like I’ve rolled a Nat 20 on my first investigation check. You’ve explained this in no time flat, and even I understood it. Anyone that doesn’t give this vid a thumbs up, has real issues.

How can I turn dynamic lighting back to legacy lighting? I'm having problems launching and loading my maps with dynamic lighting on and it often crashes my browser 😰
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 3 жыл бұрын
This one's easy. Go to the page settings for whichever map you're trying to convert. Go to Dynamic Lighting. Scroll to the very bottom where it says Advanced & Legacy Lighting Options. Voila. Turn that on.

The lighting shows up on my DM side of the map, but the players map is still black. I cannot figure out how to make the lighting take affect for my players tokens when they move them.
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 2 жыл бұрын
1. Make sure you give all player tokens vision. 2. If a token has a light source make sure to add that in, so the player can see parts of the map.

Is there any way to default to Vision: On instead of having to turn it on for EVERY token? Is there an update to this video? I don't see the same tabs
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is! Click on the Game you want to work on (NOT Launch Game) and then click on Settings. A drop down menu will appear. Click on Game Settings. The fourth option down will say Dame Default Settings. Click on that to change Page Default Settings and Token Settings. A tab near the top of the expanded section will also allow you to switch over to Dynamic Lighting Settings for things like token vision.

When you add Nightvision to a token, you can adjust its distance and it's tint color. The tint is transparent.

Hi, not sure if I missed it, but how do I get my tokens to share light vision with each other? I want all my players to be able to see what each other can see, but I can't find a way to do it.
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 3 жыл бұрын
There's two options I can think of. 1) Make the tokens editable to all players. They will share the same view (because technically they will all share control), but at the same they will also be able to edit each other's character sheet. 2) Give everyone some bright light. This is done in the Dynamic Lighting section of each token. So long as characters have vision they will be able to see what each other can see, so long as it's within the radius of their light.

@@knightsaberZ42 Thanks for the response, but not quite what I was looking for, I am trying to get my players to see each others vision, whilst out of line of sight of each other... basically from different rooms or across the opposite side of a map from each other. Mainly for people joining to watch the game, and not actually playing. (observers)

Do you know of a way so players can see another player or token's vision?
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Make sure that each token has Vision. As long as one token has a Bright Light or some other source of light (other than Night Vision) turned on, the other tokens should see their light source.

@@knightsaberZ42 thank you, but what I had meant was if a player was in a different room behind a closed door, is there a way for another player to see what they can see inside that room?
@knightsaberZ42
@knightsaberZ42 3 жыл бұрын
@@triple-gq6mn ah, I see. Theoretically, no because if you drew your dynamic lighting borders that would prevent them from seeing past it. I suppose if you gave that player permission to control that token, they should be able to see what that token sees in addition to their main token.
