I also have the same problem even though I sized down to size 39 (supposed to be 40 because my mondo is 25.5 mm)The heel lift problem is cause by the 45 degree buckle and the flap thing under the buckle sitting too forward on the boot. When you ratcheting the buckle, it just pushing your foot down instead of pushing your ankle back so you can get a good heel lock. The solution is, there's a strap that holding the buckle down so it can stay on the center of the flap when you received the boot . When i open rollerblade website and click the picture of the crossfire boot, they get rid of the strap and position the 45 buckle upwards. I also noticed the pro slalom skater they use for KZfaq marketing, also get rid of the strap and position the buckle upwards. I tried the same thing and voila, my ankle move backward and get a good heel lock. I think Rollerblade might realize the design mistake. That’s why they get rid of the strap in their website and move the 45 degree buckle upwards. Rollerblade should design the flap little bit upwards so the buckle can stay at center of the flap and when you ratcheting the buckle and move your ankle back.

Thanks for your impressions! I was looking at these skates as I wanted to try an integrated liner carbon skate and compare to the FR with Intuition liner. I was sure I wanted these RB skates but now I'm thinking of holding off on carbon for now until I can get a full carbon cuff model such as the FR SL or Igor and the Seba HLC Pro. The plastic Seba High Light is on sale and I might pick those up instead.

Just goes to show that the fit is the most important aspect when choosing inline skates. I feel you with the heel lift. It's definitely a red flag for me on any skate. If there is heel lift, it's unlikely to go away with more wear. I have really thin ankles so I am struggling a lot with this. Pressure points go away, however if the skate rubs in certain places or you have too much wiggle room, you just have to search for new skates most of the time unfortunately. I wish there were skate fitting shops, like there are for skiing, as skating enthusiasts we are always searching for the "dream skate" that fits like a glove.

Thank you for your impressions. I want to try this boot. I bought a flying eagle drift 2 and even though I like the carbon boot overall I wanted to find something where you can put an insole for shock absorption (which is something you cannot do on the Drift) as I feel the aluminum mount too much. Just curious where did you bought them? I wanted to try size 40 but I wanted to exchange them to other sizes in case I will not have a good fit. Thanks and keep the great work

Thanks for the honest first impression. I wish I had seen this before I bought the RB crossfire. But there is light: It seems to me that I have improved the heel lock with an orthopedic insole. It's slightly thicker, so I'll evaluate that. It would be a shame to return the Crossfire as it's all I was looking for. Size is 46 EU and besides from overly large heel pocket (and aggressive padding there) it is a good fit.

Thanks for dropping this review which i was eagerly anticipating! I wanted to ask if you found the cuff support for the crossfire more, less or equal to the FR1 intuition? I also have the crossfire and experienced some slight heel lift as well. Experimenting with thicker socks and different insoles (superfeet carbon) helped with the heel lift.

I cannot decide which frames to get, Iqon Decode 4x90, Endless 4x90, Rockin Mix 4, or Adapt symmetrics 4x90. Which frames do you recommend for this type of skating? Is 90mm the right wheel size as I have size 41 EU feet? Thanks

You can try tongue inserts to add padding in the ankle part of the tongue and help with heel lock, also worth trying a heel shock absorber that will slightly elevate your heel and make the heel lift less pronounced.

Great Video 👍 I send my crossfire back, same problem with the heal lift. But the bigger problem was the toe box. Extrem painfully and narrow. I habe 260 Mondo and want to order the fr sl in 41.. is this boot wider than the crossfire? My favorite boot is Adapt GTO, but I have a lot of 165 frames and don’t want to change every time …

Hey, i had the same problem as you with the heel lift and i finally found something that works: you cut the two tips of a thick sock and wear it on or under you regular sock, the more heel lift you get the thicker the sock should be.. I just ordered myfit Footies which is the same concept with more durable material And their also have a strap you can add over the boot to have an extra lock, jamstrap also might work, personally i don't think i'm gonna try them bc i don't think that an extra straps on the outside of a hardboot could be so helpful and durable.. Im a freeskater doing big jumps, stairs , slides no slalom, always skate with FR1 intuition V2 I have good level but now im 40 years old and im thinking to replace my FR1 for carbon lightweight skates wich boot do you recommend me I like te Hardcore EVO also never tested rinity mount, FRSL, Iqon C10 also like it but im afraid with the HC EVO looks shorter I mean less support or is just my impression also dont have shock absorber do you think could be a problem when doing stairs or jumps ? RE riveted buckles: Granted I've not handled the boot and you have, but I would anticipate you could drill the rivets out and use screws if the need for buckle replacement arises. A lot of ski boots have riveted buckles (it's faster from a manufacturing standpoint) and I've drilled them out when I've needed to replace them. Nice review, the heel lock issue is a serious bummer. You could possibly experiment with lacing techniques that might alleviate it.

Really interesting about the sizing. I have a wide forefoot/toes but high arch and narrow heel. This kind of shape is most common in runners, especially those of us who wear minimalist shoes. I haven't been able to fit any in line boots that fit well, currently in Powerslide Swells and I have to wear too-long of a skate just so the footbox isn't crippling. Anyone know of a shoe/brand that has a better shaped toebox? My foot dimensions: 285m length, 124mm forefoot width, 66mm heel width.

16:04 Hmmm...that heel pocket doesn't look at all like the one in my XTs. The FR one looks a lot similar, going to a "V" towards the achiles tendon. That's a big issue. EDIT: Is not, read on.

In my experience with the boot, it’s really important to lace it all the way up to the top holes, to avoid heel lift and get your foot properly positioned. Specially tightening the two ankle lace holes.

Well, isnt the 45°-Strap the thing that should counter heel-lift? If it obviously doesnt, then what is it good for? Chosing a size down and skating for hours with cramped, aching feet and hoping the pain might go away isnt a good thing either. Seems like you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Honestly, I would just give up on the boots, sell them to someone whom they might fit better and go with a setup you are more comfortable with.

Danner makes a heel-only “airthodic” insert. I’ve used them in boots which had too much heel motion. They helped significantly in those boots and they might help with the heel lift you’re describing. Also, would it help to lace the lower boot eyelets separately from the heel eyelets? That is, each section has its own lace? I have that setup on some old speed skates.
