The game is much easier when every other shot is played by a world champion. Before Coronavirus swept the world, Rollie Williams ( / rolliewilliams ) stopped by Society Billiards to get a lesson from World Champion Thorsten Hohmann ( / thorstenhohmann . Thorsten and Rollie alternate shots to try to string together as many shots as possible. Predictably, there is a weak link.

Unlike 9-ball or 8-ball, straight pool (a.k.a. 14.1) allows you to hit any ball in any order, and when you get down to just 1 ball, you rack the other 14 back in the triangle and keep going. Thorsten has made a terrifying 408 without missing, so I figured he was a good person to get a straight pool lesson from. Filmed at Society Billiards in New York City.

I know. I dont think a lot of pool players are as down to earth as Thorsten is. Niels feijen is Effren Reyes is. Bustamante is. Van Boening is. Almost all of the female pro players seem very kind. This game is supposed to be fun.

Really great video. Getting insight on how Thorsten thinks about shots and position and his acknowledgment that even pros don't always worry about perfect position because they have options in mind is invaluable

Rollie ... I love your videos. You make it interesting, relevant and put together a valuable lesson. Its great to meet amazing players on your channel, like Thorsten, who can make the concepts so much more easy to understand. Plus, it's great to see a player that is at my level doing these videos (talking about you this time ... ). Your channel is amazing ... and ... we can all see your game getting better. Keep it up!

Hey Rollie, Nothing against Hunter, I am sure Hunter is a great player in his own league. Professionals like Thorsten fits your style a lot better. In the future when you seek "help", you should look into players that is like Thorsten's style. When you are comfortable, you seem to learn better and as a viewer, I feel like I am able to sit through the whole video a lot easier. Just my 2 cents. Stay safe

It's not timing. Definitely a characterisric of carbon shafts. They are more rigid than maple by several orders of magnitude. Think of an aluminum bat vs a wooden bat. Carbon fiber is close to diamond, and is just a slightly different arrangement of the atoms. Some carbon fiber cues use different fabric weaves and dampening. But all I've seen make a similar sound.

One thing that i see when your playing is playing nervous .. It sucks to know your better then that and you cant concentrate on the correct line of aim. Making shots in pool is easy. Whats Hard is leaving the cue ball in a certain possition. It takes a good stroke and feel of the movement of the cueball with the correct strength of hit. I know you already know this but your ball pocketing skills should have been more up there alreadyy i guess by now.

I feel that Rollie is still quite bad in pool because he is too lazy to follow through with any of the advice that all of the professionals have given him. He is looking for a secret formula / shortcut to get good. But there isn't. You got to put in the time, effort and the practice to get good. After all of these episodes, Rollie is still so bad and clearly all of the time he is spending with professionals and all of the advice they give him, he is just ignoring...

funny you say that. i was just thinking that he really seems to be improving.
@mummz3371
@mummz3371 4 жыл бұрын
@@ctogive sure he is improving, for the amount of training he is receiving from the world class professionals he's been receiving them from, I would be surprised if he wasn't improving just a little. If he's been doing his drills and actually focusing and what the professionals have been telling him, he should be a much better player than he is now. There are some people who are meant to be great by working their asses off to get to where they are. Then there are other people who don't put in the work and expect to achieve the same greatness aka Mr Average pool player. If he ever achieves ANYTHING in pool as a semi professional, I will be dam surprised.
@creedolala6918

@@mummz3371 I think you misunderstand Rollie's goals. He went to school for some sort of climate science degree... his web page says he does comedy, and some writing/producing. He is not a semi-professional pool player, or trying to go pro. I think he sees himself as a comedian/writer/producer who happens to love pool. He had this idea for a youtube series, and people enjoy it because he's funny and relatable. He has no reason to try to seriously tackle pool, because if you're not already AAA-speed by age 18 you probably don't have much chance to go pro, and even if he becomes a low-level pro, he'd make about as much money as an uber driver, but with more stress. He's found some success by just being average, so why mess with a winning formula?
@mummz3371
@mummz3371 4 жыл бұрын
@@creedolala6918 I hear you, that does make sense. Was just wondering why he would get tips and training from numerous professionals but don't apply what they are saying or take their advice. He did even sign up for some pool tournament with a lot of world class professionals, so I did think he was semi pro at the least. He does put a lot of time and effort into the sport for someone who is not serious about it.
@creedolala6918
@creedolala6918 4 жыл бұрын
@@mummz3371 he does... also pool is one of those sports where you can just find a top pro in a regular pool room on a random Thursday night. so he can basically just go up and pick their brain. It's not this incredible rare opportunity like getting a golf lesson from Tiger Woods, where you'd have to spend a fortune and travel a long distance. maybe that's why it might seem crazy, that he's talking to all these top players but not really trying to do anything with it.
