Bruh. The feels. The utter realisation that my Golf is the car I deserve cause is the car I need, even if I don't like it. The crushing acceptance of the superiority of dependability against everything else. The cold efficiency of passing time and the ultimate need of an anchor, of something that stays with you no matter how much you change.

My grandfather (RIP) was a diesel mechanic. He worked on Mack trucks until he retired. As far back as I can remember, he and my grandmother had Camrys. She didn't drive and had a medical condition that prevented her from being in cars all that often, so they'd log less than 5k miles per year. Still, my grandfather would get a new one around year 7 or 8. He loved the fact that they required zero maintenance beyond basically oil changes for the entire time he owned the car. He got his hands dirty enough at work, he reasoned, and that's why he always chose a Camry. Enjoy the new car, Nick! I hope it's as painless as my grandparents'!

Congrats Roman! Funny, my mom bought a Camry that looked exactly like this one, color and all. She went to the dealer and financed it without my dad’s knowledge. I watched lots of arguments between them after it arrived and I disliked the car at the time because it showed that their marriage was failing. 20 something years later I realize it wasn’t the Camrys fault, it did nothing wrong. I got to drive it from time to time before I moved out and grew up and it was a great car. It carted my siblings around as their car when my mom got tired of it. It was not cared for, just used It outlasted that season of life and now when I see one it evokes thoughts of solidarity. Great pick, Roman. Edit: oohhh kaayy, that ASMR bit brought me RIGHT BACK to being in the car. Strange feelings and emotions.

Have a 2005 Tundra and feel the same with the build quality. 18 years later everything still works! All the switches and knob have no wear or tear on them. Plus, it’s still a solid, rattle free drive. The V8 gets horrible gas mileage, but runs smooth as silk 180k miles later.

No word of a lie, I just bought a 2004 Camry 4 months ago, sold my 07 Legacy Turbo and pretty much broke even. I love the Camry more in 4 months than I ever liked the near 300hp tuned Subaru. It's like driving my childhood around, so comfy, so smooth and I more than doubled my gas millage!.. It's the GOAT

A 2002 Camry XLE was my first car - handed down from Grandpa to grandkid 4 times over, complete with a name which belied its history. Ol’ Scrapey was a tank, and I still miss the sound of that V6. Welcome to Team Camry Roman! I'm on my 3rd, an '88, '97, and currently an '09. These cars just age so well I believe they are a cheat code for the consumer. Looks like you found a nice one, enjoy!

Congratulation Roman! Here are some frugal/efficient/comfort mods for you! 1. Low rolling resistance (Prius) tires (get thoseMPGs) 2. Low weight wheels (maybe the Prius wheels will fit, are probably lighter than the steelies and you can get nice wheel caps). Lower unsprung weight. 3. Solid collars for the front (maybe even rear) subframe. This will tighten up the ride and NVH of the car. 4. Full exterior and interior LED conversion. Better lighting and less load on the alternator (maybe even a bit of better mpg) 5. Depending on your taste maybe a new floating screen head unit will integrate well in the dash and you can add a reverse camera if you want. 6. New speakers. Focal sells a complete drop in replacement with compatible connectors, but I do not know if it is compatible with your year of Toyota. 7. Full interior sound treatment. Get the noise all the way down, without doing too much weight. If the car is already solid I am guessing it will now feel like a Lexus for cheap 8. Small lithium 12 v battery. Considerably lighter and more powerful than a standard lead acid, but might be finicky in winter. 9. Lube the chassis for maintenance and reduced NvH There: Lexus light, with the same or better MPG when you started. Hopefully this makes sense for your life style and as always great video!

Quite possibly the most regular of regular cars there ever were. Great car, along with the 1st gen tC 2nd gen xB and Matrix/Vibe and RAV4s. The 2AZ-FE is one of the most reliable Toyota motors to exist. (As long as you keep the oil filled.)

When I started watching you guys , I didn’t have a car and found the channel after I was interested in a dodge avenger in 2024/2015. Now I’m watching Roman write his heart out about driving the same car as I do. A xv30 5th gen Camry. What an incredible and well lived life this is that we all share.

When I worked at an oil change shop when I was 16, we would have the older gentleman that would come in with his camry, identical to this one. He would come in exactly every 5,000 miles to change his oil. Every time checking the dipstick before draining the old oil, the oil would still look nearly brand new, and would not be missing a drop, exactly on the full mark every time. I remember the car having more than 200k miles.

if you're getting a early-to-mid 00's camry or accord, you must get it in the champagne/gold color. Total blast from the past here...felt like half the road was one of those two sedans in that color back before the crossover took over the world. oh and that seafoam green color too. love seeing one of those 00's corollas where the paint is still in good shape.

I still wish y'all would review my 2000 Camry CE to compare! 273k, 2.2L I4 with 5mt. Even put junkyard cruise control on it. Been driving it for 17 years and still going strong. My first car was an '02 Camry 5mt... I got it in 2010, slam shifted that thing and ran it to redline every day for 7 years, til it was too rusty to pass inspection. I know for a fact that if we had coated the frame and garage kept it, I'd still be driving it today.

As a 13 year old kid, I remember getting in my friend's dad's 1994ish Camry XV10 (V6 LE!). After five minutes into the ride, I remember thinking to myself, "this is the quietest and most vault-like rock solid car I have ever been in". Coming from a family that had 1990s Volkswagens and Dodge Caravans. Everything about this car measures up to that feeling I still remember.

I owned the smaller facsimile of this Camry, a champagne 2009 Corolla LE. 150,000+ miles on it and the interior looked brand new. Always averaged 31-32 MPG. The A/C was frigid. What a great little car! I sold it to a teenage girl after I bought my white 2016 4Runner, “Pearl”. Over two years later and I’m sorry I didn’t keep the Corolla around.

Brings back memories of riding around in Singapore with my family in 2004. We had a "champagne" Camry like this. The tail lights were different and it was right hand drive, and it felt like a luxury car.

I have a gen 4 Camry and I put an OEM cruise control in it from a non wrecked Camry at the scrapyard and a Pioneer single din unit as well. These cars will never let you down.

Those camrys drive so well. SOOOooo smooth.

I had a 2003 Camry that just ran and ran even after it got hit twice and repaired, it just ran and ran. I even stupidly waited to change the transmission at 145,000 miles and there were no burnt fluid or metal shavings. It ran and ran until I sold it off in 2020 at 230,000 miles and got myself a 2020 Camry. Those early models from 98 to 01 and 02 to 04 were just so reliable.

Only problem I know of the 2002-2003 Camrys in particular are stripped head bolts so be sure to stay on top of the cooling system and never let it get hot. That being said, my dad's 2002 with ancient coolant and 200k+ miles still runs great.

I still have my 2005 Camry fully loaded. The quality of this car is truly remarkable. The leather seats are thick, plush and comfortable. The knobs and dials feel weighted and tactile. Literally everything feels substantial. The trunk is huge and I can easily fit 4 snow tires in there. Toronto, Canada.

It was because of the years of watching you all that my "new to me" car was a 2015 Toyota Corolla. By far the best car that I could have gotten that was available at the time. Got me from D.C to Topeka Kansas in under 24 hours. Easy to work on, parts are plug and play, and placed with intelligence. Thanks for the years of content!

I mean, this is honestly a more fitting car than anything for this channel. Since the departure of Silicone Sally there hasn't really been a super-regular-in-every-way car piloted by either of you, and this fits the bill perfectly.

If I recall, you can buy aftermarket key fobs and program the car yourself to recognize it. I did this with my ‘04 Highlander, which appears to use the same generation of fob.

I had the same car, same color, just 2003. It was a wonderful car! It had a little over 230,000 miles on it, and other than the yellowed headlights (that I replaced), it ran like new and was extremely good on gas. The only reason I don't still have it is because it got totaled by a runaway garbage truck while I was inside the supermarket grocery shopping. As long as I kept my speed below 70 miles an hour it would get an honest 40 miles to the gallon on the highway. And around town I would get mid-to-upper 20s. It was a 4 cylinder with a 4-speed automatic. Second best car I've ever owned. The only car that I have ever had that was better than it is my current 2000 Toyota Camry, which, although it doesn't have quite as much horsepower, does have a 5-speed manual. Don't get me wrong, I love sports cars and muscle cars and 4x4 trucks, but when it comes to a car that I know I can depend on no matter what, I'll take a Camry over anything. Come hell or high water that car will come through.

just set my wife up with an 05 Camry to get her through grad school. Did the brakes, brake lines, suspension, motor mounts, wireless android auto head unit.... it has all of the features you'd want out of a "newer" car, in a 20 year old sedan with stellar build quality. sweet ride!

The funny thing about the end bit to me is with the great screenification of cars, a genuine market for "old car ASMR" content might open up (or open wider if it somehow already exists)

2002 to 2006 Camrys were the best! Followed by 1992-1996, and then by the 2015-2017. Some great, reliable cars in there.

On an Australia related note: you should definitely seek out an Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6. I know it's a Eurocar, but there is a dedicated fanbase in Aussie and I would love to hear your take on it!

I had a 2003 Camry that I sent to the scrap yard about 5 years ago. It had 470,000 Kms on it and I might have kept it, but it needed a power steering pump and I had a new job closer to home that didn't require Cam's frugal milage. It had a manual transmission, rear spoiler and a factory front strut tower bar. It was as sporty as a Camry with a four banger could get and I flogged it always. I miss that car dearly and shop for used Camry's weekly.

Bought a 2002 Camry when I first married my wifey. Just like this one, except in red. It was a pre-production demo unit with a cigarette tray where everyone else had cup holders. Wife and I drove it for 180k miles and was planning to keep it until the speedo unit died and it would have cost $700 just to have the mileage certified with the license office. Perfect car.

Also like the Lexus version. Highly underrated affordable and reliable. Comfortable mile eater that won't draw the attention of the cops if you forget to get the tags done.

Boring is good. Reliable is good. Beige Camry is invisible to cops, will run till the end of time, spacious and safe, and honestly that generation of camry aged really well.

YES! I adore my 03 Camry, been driving it for over 10 years now and at 157,000 miles, it still drives as well as it did when my dad first handed it down to me.

I put it on Craigslist with what I thought was the extravagant price of $3,000. The response was so overwhelming I decided to buy the car (at a very deep family discount) myself. Driving it locally 1,500 miles a year I’ll have it forever.

I’ve been jumping around a bunch of different 80s Toyotas, currently driving a 1986 Toyota Cressida. It feels far more comfortable and better made than any car I’ve ever been in. 150k miles, runs flawlessly, no rattles, no door sag, 99% of the buttons still work, not a rip or crack in the interior, and it’s never been garage kept in its life. When Toyota wants a car to last, it will.

I understand all too well where you’re coming from about feeling miserable/bored despite being aware that you now have an objectively better car. When I was 22, I bought the first car I bought with my own money: an ‘02 E46 with a Dinan tune and a manual transmission. LOVED that car. Couldn’t walk away after parking without looking back at it. But I naively bought it at 225k miles. Over the 3 years I had it, I spent about every 3-6 months replacing/fixing SOMETHING. But I loved the car too much to see reason. I was convinced that I was gonna “repair it into submission”. But after 3 years, I had to accept that my love for the car wasn’t enough to compensate for the financial burden of constantly repairing it. Shortly before my 25th birthday, I decided I had to let it go and bought a 2015 Volvo S80 T6 AWD. It’s faster, significantly less worn down, significantly more reliable, and has more features on it. It is objectively a better car than my E46, in almost all aspects. Everyone around me loves the Volvo…but I don’t love it as much as I loved “Lady Shambles”. Some days I think the Volvo is nice, most days I think it’s just “alright”. I’ve had it for a year now, and the fact that I haven’t seen a check engine light every 3, months has made me very grateful. I’ve just had to accept that the car that I need right now, isn’t the car that I wanted. And I’m positive that after some more time, I’ll eventually get over myself and learn to love “Granny Dickins” (the Volvo has a license plate that makes me think of fellatio)

My first car was a 2002 Camry LE. It was my grandmothers and she bought it new in 02. I remember riding in it all the time from about 6 years old. She gave it to my parents for their children to drive. My brother didn’t drive it but my older sister did for a year before I got it. We lived in rural NM and because of the drives to and from ANYTHING, by the time I got it it had 168000 miles and I put about 20000 on it. That car taught me many lessons about loving cars. Some of my worst decisions were made on that car including what not to spray paint, how not to wire a sub and amp from autozone and how off road I could take a sedan. Most of all however, it taught me to see the soul in a car. My Camry was entirely Earnest. He excepted every form of abuse, neglect, care, experimentation, and love. I could give it as a young car owner. My best high school memories are associated with that car. In 2018 after phone in the car for about two years, I moved to Austin for college. My best friend help me move down and spent two weeks with me at the end of those two weeks we were in downtown and I had not yet learned all the traffic patterns of the city, I turned on what I thought was a street or turn lane although it was a street only and smacked a Lincoln. I had never hit another car or wrecked a car I was driving. The damage was quite bad and rendered the rear driver door useless. I eventually traded it in for $700 on a scion. Before I left to the dealership to trade the car in, though, I cleaned the car out and sat in my aunts garage, looking at it, and eventually started crying. What an odd feeling to see some thing that I had associated with so many fantastic and terrible memories, and what I viewed as an integral part of my childhood and early adulthood and come to terms with the fact that I was giving it away. It’s been eight different cars since then and I still look for it online at pull up parts and auction sites. I doubt it ever left San Antonio and a couple years ago I managed to confirm that someone had in fact purchased it in San Antonio, that being said, it’s almost certain that the car ended up at a yard was picked, and eventually crushed. I always think about looking online at lower mileage Camry‘s of the same spec as mine but I don’t think I could buy one and peel justified in the ownership in the same way I would be should I have kept my own. It’s an odd thing, but I do believe Jeremy Clarkson Boyles car enthusiast down in a great way when he says a car in Theseus begins to see their own car as a person in a dove it self, and begins to love it as such I still have the key From my Camry and every now and again I go grab it and hold it in the same fashion I would when sticking it in the ignition. The muscle memory of that act conjures a great many memories, and may seem odd, but when I think about my next car or project or opportunity to own something really interesting, I’m reminded of the origins of my personal journey with car ownership and the fundamental values I hold as a car enthusiast.

Toyotas from that era are good I impulse bought a 2003 Echo as an extra car when gas prices were high. Ended up surprisingly efficient and better on the highway then I thought it would.
