@@selbartonIt's part of the interview. There are specific questions each person answers in their initial interview/story. One is to describe their looks, another is if they use any pet names/nicknames, etc. If you watch a lot of these, you'll see the pattern.

I told my online girlfriend Jennifer Aniston about all these romance scammers and how they trick people and she said: "How sad, I can't believe people fall for these scammers my king". It’s not totally implausible. NYC has many language and culture enclaves, and having worked in medicine there, we would regularly see people who lived and worked there but were not proficient in English. They just lived and had jobs in neighborhoods with many other Spanish, Chinese, Korean, whatever speakers, and you could get by without English fairly easily. I also lived in a town in Maryland that had a significant Korean population, with banks, restaurants, churches, stores, that had signs in Korean and English, and the house next door was owned by a sweet and friendly older Korean lady who only knew a few words in English.

It's amazing the amount of people I see fooled by even low quality ai images on facebook. Literally the most ridiculously fake looking buildings and fighter jets, and the comments are filled with "someday I will visit this place" or "I used to fly one of those in the air force."

I get those at least 3x a week too! They always apologize and then they say that you seem like a nice person and ask if you want to be friends. Then they usually send me a picture of some attractive Asian girl and says that it's them lol. Sometimes I'll keep them going for a few days just bcuz I know that at least if they're wasting their time with me, they're not taking money from other people

And common sense. If your picture looks like a 4 and the one you’re talking to is a 10 on the good looking scale, then it’s a scammer. A young good looking person has no reason to be looking on a dating site. They can get anyone they want in real life. Use your common sense, no model type is going to fall in love with you in a couple of weeks.THATS the sure sign it’s a catfish.

When someone shows you that your "investment" has doubled or even tripled but they don't want you to withdraw anything to pay off a debt, that is a clear sign that the money doesn't actually exist except on paper. A really good idea is to NEVER send anyone you have never met any money. That way you don't have to spend sleepless nights agonizing over whether they are "real".

Most of these scammers are in China, Malaysia, Cambodia etc and have actually been kidnapped and forced to work for these organisations that will torture them if they don't comply. Laws in the US won't affect these scammers. And even the person on the other end may not be the real villain, they may be forced to do this.

I kinda feel a little sorry for this guy. He does six years in prison, manages to turn his life around. Once he gets out, he manages to find employment, AND stay away from the life that sent him to prison, in the first place. Not an easy thing to do. Why he would believe that an attractive woman with multiple degrees (when he probably has a GED, at most) who has a successful business in NYC, would even glance at him, is beyond me...We believe what we want to believe, whether it's true, or not. At least he had enough sense to reach out for help, before he lost everything.

Look, I'm an attractive successful woman with a university degree and a six figure job, my husband didn't finish uni and has a criminal record. People fall in love for all sorts of reasons and it's kinda shallow to assume nobody can love you unless you're on exactly the same level as them in all ways. The red flag was that he never met this woman in person and he didn't notice the obvious errors on the driver's license. However she was not that out of his league.

This is so funny to me because just this morning, I got a message from a guy on Facebook who said, "Hi dear, how are you doing today?" I've had guys tell me that they enjoy my posts. What is funny about that is I am in a Facebook group about vintage refrigerators. Like, I am making seriously exciting and interesting posts about vintage refrigerators? When I looked at this guy's profile it's not likely that he is going to be attracted to me. He's good-looking enough to be a model and about 15 years younger than me. He doesn't know me, but he's calling me dear. Sounds pretty phony to me. I didn't contact him back, but if I did, I would probably hear that he works on an oil rig somewhere, and he's been waiting his whole life to meet someone like me. Yeah right!

I get these texts all the time. Someone who I don't know contacts me, I tell them I don't know them, they say that I sound friendly and usually send me a picture without me asking; normally an attractive asian woman. I've never had a "friend" send me their picture to see if knew who they were. That should have been the first and only red flag he needed.

I'm not so sure it would be the #1 reason, but is high on the list. Lack of self-awareness with a high dose of delusion, and loneliness are others because they have never learned how to amuse themselves: have hobbies, get a pet, join clubs, take courses in something (like cooking, photography, hiking, bird watching), join a gym, go to the library)... They will meet people if they venture out and will find someone real who has similar interests. The important one for greed is to believe that if it seems too good to be true, it is.

There are so many victims on Catfished that come off as unlikeable (cheaters, creeps, aggressively delusional people), but this guy is actually pretty cool. Props to him for rehabilitating himself! It's so common for ex-felons to backslide. Hope he continues to do well! Well, aside from getting scammed, but if that's the worst that's happened to him, then he's still doing great!

The Asian looking AIs and stolen pictures are almost always pig butchering. The ones who use European or North American pictures are almost always romance scams.

@@rasun316pig butchering is a scam where someone does cold calling or cold texting to get someone talking. They build up a rapport if the victim is nice and willing to talk. The scammer tells you about this site they use to invest and the site is absolutely fictional and made up. The victim believes they are getting unbelievable returns on their investments and the scammer encourages them to keep "investing". When the victim is finally ready to withdraw, the website will prompt the victim to deposit thousands of dollars to "authenticate" the victim which is just one is final way for the scammer to steal money from the victim. It's called pig butchering because they fatten up the victim before the slaughter.

I feel like Israel is a great person and has made a huge turnaround with his life and because he has done all the positive things to better himself and also is a man of God, his mind is clean and has no clue anyone could be so cruel to anyone. Eventually he will find the right women and I am sure he won’t be answering any friend request on the phone or Facebook. I just got a text like this yesterday.. it’s the third time! They start with a “Hey this is X, long time” or ask if you remember them. All three times it was an Asian lady & they sent either a pic or ID.. their whole stick is just get you to believe that you’ve met them at one time & now want to reconnect. Be safe out there!

The fact that he’s so concerned if she’s a minor makes me feel like he actively seeks out minors. Why would a woman with “degrees” who works as a district manager be a minor. Sounds like he’s used to speaking with minors who pretend to be older. Also, many predator catchers have confirmed telegram is a hotbed for predators so his familiarity is suspect in itself. Also, what are the odds he spent time for a crime related to minors. The red flags are WAVING

Because minors don't lie about their age. Because there isn't a scam out there where people claim to be adults and then dad messages you and OPE. You've been talking to a minor and better send $1000 to make it go away. Because minors don't blackmail people, in "yeah, me 18 send me nudes" and then the next day "actually I'm 16, send me money and I won't tell." Y'all act like you're so smart in scams and automatically leapt to "dude must be a p3do" You're not that smart, it seems.
