True, it almost always seem to be the case with these scammers, they have perhaps heard of celebs like George Lucas, George Michael, Michael Douglas, Steve Martin, Ray Charles, Jason Alexander, Larry David, Sam Elliot, Matthew Perry, Bob Ross, Michael Jordan, John Wayne, Paul Simon, and so on, and thought they could just go with that.

This is the first the time the catfish’s photo wasn’t a red flag, at all. She’s really pretty, and he’s definitely not out of her league. In a way, that’s even worse, because this catfish is going for someone who’s not all about superficial looks, but just really wants someone to give her affection and attention. She’s also no fool, and called them out on their typos, etc. I hope the best for her!!! ❤

I wish they would have given Crystal more props for trusting her gut and seeing the red flags early. She was only a few months in and asking all the right questions and sticking to certain boundaries. They question ppl all the time about noticing the errors on the websites. Questioning why someone would send them something so valuable if they don't know them. etc. They finally found someone who did that and I just wish they gave her more credit for trusting her gut. This was a refreshing episode to watch🥰

Yeah it happens lol. They have a word they say if they're suspicious it's another scammer (not certain of the spelling) Alaye...if they put that in a chat they're testing the potential victim. Its also part of why they're so insistent on seeing the person in video chat (if they do it).

I have never been approached by a clever/intelligent scammer yet. I am not a member of dating apps but they contact me via FB. I sometimes plan to play them along but they are so stupid, it drives me mad. Recently one told me he was French working in Cardiff. I told him I lived in Wales and he said he had never been to Wales. Cardiff is the capital of Wales.

I have played along with several including agreeing to send $2,500 via Western Union and then messaging me asking where the money was it's because they're waiting. The most recent one claimed that they were a waitress at a steak restaurant in the suburbs of Chicago. I messaged her and she said she was busy working then I sent her a video of the interior of the restaurant and asked where she was and why none of her supposed coworkers had ever heard of her!

The reason that this woman wasn't scammed is because she IS intelligent and ISN'T narcissistic. She was willing to admit that she was being duped. Narcissists never admit they've been wrong. I hope some wonderful, single man in her area sees this video and scoops her up. She's a real catch.

Congratulations, Crystal! You're a decent person who empathised with someone you thought might need a bit of help, but you were also smart enough to see through the manipulation and lies and spot all the red flags. And most of all, you didn't let greed override your common sense and judgement -- as so many of these romance scam "victims" do when they think they're somehow going to get millions of dollars in gold bricks.
