Ron was a neighbor of mine in Vegas when I was I high school. He was just as awesome in person as he was in his standup routine. I was playing basketball at my neighbors. He walked by & asked if he could join me. I recognized his voice but couldn’t remember why. I asked if he was on the radio. He laughed & said no, he was a comedian. I instantly remembered, I’d seen him on cable. He talked to my dad & I for several hours about life & living in Vegas. He gave us free tickets to his next show. Such a nice guy.

I used to be in a band, every road trip we had Ron Shock on a CD and had to sit and listen to it for the entire drive. One of my favorite news stories was the Suicide with a Bolt Action 22 rifle.

You guys should have heard him talk about that story for real. I actually remember the news article about it. It happened in the early 90's. But he was so hilarious talking about it. That & the airplane crashing into the hotel in Indy. I lived in Indiana at the time, I remembered that as well.

The Train joke was originally based on coverage of an airplane crash in Evansville, Indiana (where his wife is from) - dateline Indianapolis - ... but out of sensitivity after 9/11, Ron changed it to a train... the joke is timeless and was one of his personal favorites...

vegaspoet You knew him? He was a great guy. He was my neighbor back in the 90’s. My dad & I saw him on TV talking about that story, then met him a few days later. We talked about that crash. We had lived in Indiana, prior to Vegas, so we remembered it.

I was at that show. He did a bit about someone on the side of the road selling van seats. "You know Mertle, I'm tired of driving standing up, let me know the next time you see a van seat salesman by the side of the road"

CLASSICNES82, Ron's wife bought him camera equipment after she met him and filmed or had someone film and then produced and posted ALL of these bits. She wanted to share his comedic storytelling genius, timing and master stagecraft with the world. Laughter is a gift from God and you can't fake funny!

Ball-shrinking cold" is my favorite phrase of Ron's! Many of us use it during the cold winter months! I was fortunate to get Ron's autograph when he performed at Loonie's here in Colorado Springs, probably in 1993 or so!

For me, the saddest thing about 9/11 is that Ron Shock had to re-write his "plane crashes into a hotel...most of the people are caught by surprise" joke. Now it's about a train and it just isn't as funny, IMO.

Funny thing, he didn’t make up either story. I remember the plane crash happening back in the early 90’s. The train crash also happened. And I’ll bet both articles said “most” people were surprised. Lol
