Guitar great Ronnie Montrose's first appearance on The Blazy & Bob Show, October 1991 in Morgan Hill, California. Another of our monthly live "Breakfast Club" shows. Our goal of making sure radio listeners not only got to hear something great, but SEE something great, came true on this day. It would be another shining moment for our talented live show band, The Blazers. This is one of the best live moments from 7 1/2 years the show was on KOME, San Jose and the Bay.
This video is dedicated to The Blazers, a group that was arranged with on-air auditions. They were Silicon Valley employees and excellent musicians who showed up at the crack of dawn to take these shows to the next level.
The Blazers: Greg Mullins (keyboards), Dennis Coulter (drums), Peg Bertsch (keyboards), and Marcus Miller (bass). Pete Roberts sound.
Video compliments of Greg Mullins. Audio remastering by Robert Berry/SoundTek Studios.
Special thanks to Ron Nenni and Dave Wohlman, without whom, these KOME shows wouldn't have been possible.
After only hearing this performance for decades, it's wonderful to find out that Greg had this on video and now see how much Ronnie was enjoying this moment, sharing his smiles with us over at the broadcast table (1:55), and with the band. He was so impressed with Marcus, he ended up hiring him to play bass on future gigs. It's great to see the listeners cheering before the song is even over. So glad they were treated to a one-of-a-kind performance.
For the record, the video cam was only set up for Greg's personal collection. As you'll see, sometimes audience members would stand in front of the camera. It's unfortunate Greg and Peg aren't in the shot, as they dueled it out on keyboards.
I saw Ronnie many times over my career. I remember our last conversation. I was going to introduce Eddie Money at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I called Ronnie and told him it was a perfect afternoon at the beach. He said he was fishing and that it was beautiful where he was, too. He was upbeat and relaxed. That's how I'll always remember him. He is missed, but his music is always around us.
This channel is dedicated to my sons, and friends, who motivated me to begin posting some of this historical music.
