Over half of the cabin is flat ceilings so trusses made most sense and more cost effective than an onsite route. The two mono trusses will allow for the cabin halves to remain independent.

Truss clips... don't install them like that! 🙄 Our trusses are now double clipped. Stupidly we sat them out on our layout marks and nailed away. I probably would have thought better of it if the walls had not been sheathed both sides already. Never mind, mistakes are there to learn from. Just enough room to squeeze a clip in vertically nailed to wall plate which will be behind the internal battens anyway. 👍

Please consider refraining from using “stupid/stupidly.” In North America, the connotation suggests something akin to mental retardation. Love your channel.

Question, that may be on everyones mind...Have you started legal action against the chassis company that didn't come through, but took your money? The cabin is coming along nicely, as always, great to see you all putting in some superb work, it's inspiring.

Great progress Tim! Having a second pair of hands really seems to help. Jo would have been those hands I'm sure had she not been taking care of the fam. I can only imagine how you and Jo must feel knowing you're that much closer to realizing this part of your move to the farm. Crack on!! Love from the states!

I've got a question for you - on a scale of 1 to 10, how much are you dreading bolting the 2 halves back together when you move the whole lot to its permanent site? It's tricky to get all the holes to line up on an ikea cupboard, let alone 2 gurt huge trailers!

Hi Your video is very informative thank you. I have a question I want to renovate my grandfather's house on Madeira Island. The roof is old but does not leak inside the house. Which to me is a good sign. Is it possible to only clean, prime, and paint the roof? Or does it have to be removed and replaced? I do not know what the Truss looks like until I remove the ceiling. Yes, I would like to take on this project on my own and maybe have a helper as I don't have a lot of money and need to save costs where I can. I need advice on whether my way of thinking is fine or totally wrong. In my head, I have the following steps in mind. 1) Remove the ceiling to access the truss. 2) Replace any old or damaged truss. 3) Get on the roof to clean the roof. 4) Apply a primer on the roof or is it the sealers first? 5) Paint the roof. Would love some advice. Thank you. Monica De pontes

Looking amazing. I have a question. What's the weight limit for something like this? Have you calculated what the finished weight of each half will be? Static Caravans I've stayed in have been around 5500kg single axle. But they're lightweight construction (walls bend when you mean on them). Whereas yours is more "house on wheels." much more heavy duty.

I would change those truss clips, they are not really doing a lot the way they are. They should be put in vertically to stop the lift.

Totally agree
@justwannaridemabike
@justwannaridemabike 2 жыл бұрын
I agree but I don’t think he can mount them vertically (if he wants 600 centres for the trusses), because I think he made the stud walls at 400 centres so he would be mounting the vertical clips into 18mm (I think) OSB & rock wool insulation. Only time will tell, hopefully not too windy 😬
@denty32
@denty32 2 жыл бұрын
@@justwannaridemabike the clips can be fixed on the inside connected to the wall plate, at present they are not stopping wind uplift
@gordonmonteith8486
@gordonmonteith8486 2 жыл бұрын
@@justwannaridemabike when you mount vertical you would be nailing through the OSB into the top rail (wall plate) so the distance between trusses doesn’t matter. Mounting vertical vastly increases the uplift resistance as the nails are horizontal to the vertical lift.

Hi. I may have missed the reason.... But why have you built the cabin where you have and not on its final resting place, is it because of the services need to be insitute before the cabin is placed ? Great videos!!

For the Q&A - given the size of the building I have never understood why you didn't get a professional to do a set of plans??? I am not sure if areas such as fixings to roof and the fire resistance of the building have been correctly specified, they may have been but it is not clear from your videos. Also why did you go 400 on the studs as you now have a bunch of extra studs where you could have had insulation??? I would have thought following detailed drawings would be good practice for your next house.

In another vid, Tim mentioned 3/4 years so they can be onsite to renovate the barn. The cabin there building had a budget of 30-40k I think and the aim is to sell it off when they’re done and barn complete. That’s why he built in two halves so it can be transported to whomever buys it.
