I actually think that maybe she just puts a fake smile but deep down she knows she didn't do well. I guess that's what you do in that situations just trying to act ,,professional" and smile for the camera but actually cry when you get off the stage. That's what I would do at least, so that's just a theory :)

SAME! I'm not American though, so I only heard about it. I get why people found this horrible, but to end someone's entire carreer over it? That still seems a bit to much for me. This was however, the cringiest of them all.

The funniest part of Fergie's performance is that after she's done she clearly thinks she killed it. It's just like when all those celebrities sang 'Imagine', and it was the just a cringefest. They thought they were awesome, but anyone with a functioning brain hated every moment of it.

simply cwazy a gliding monosyllabic speech sound (such as the vowel combination at the end of toy) that starts at or near the articulatory position for one vowel and moves to or toward the position of another....in other words, when she sings "ramparts," she is holding on to the beginning of the "a" vowel, instead of gliding over it, and then the "arrr" in the second syllable. It’s a really harsh sound that isn’t pleasing to most people. Had to edit that to a bit for clarity's sake.

A diphthong is a one syllable word that has two combined vowels or sounds like it has two combined vowels. The two vowel sounds create their own sound, so the vowels become one sound instead of sounding separate. For example, words like coin, wide, and loud are diphthongs. (I am studying to be an English teacher, not a musician, so this may be different for my studies vs music)

It’s not that Fergie is a bad singer, it’s that she seemed like she was trying to make it sexy. The type of vibrato she used as well as the tone she used.

Ferny yeah she tried to do something different but it didn’t at all match the tone of the setting or the tone of the song, and it didn’t help that she went unnecessarily high and off key at several key points. What I think is really interesting is that even though she probably realized mid performance it wasn’t going great she didn’t change to normal singing, she was determined to sell the performance through the end.

I think more people were concerned with her faking playing an instrument rather than her faking playing the INCORRECT INSTRUMENT. Even if she didn't take it away from her face and get caught, it would've still been cringe because she's a musician who doesn't know the difference between a sound of a recorder and a freaking flute!!
