Yep! Everybody knew and nobody cared! Freddie Mercury was incredibly talented, beautiful inside and out, brutally honest and non judgmental and we will always love who he was. 😊 All Freddie wanted was to make people happy and feel good.

Love, love, love your reaction to this one. It’s funny, I’m not crazy about some of their songs either, but I think that many of their others are the most brilliant songs I’ve ever heard. And there’s no denying that ensemble - Mercury, May, Taylor, and Deacon. One of the greatest rock bands ever.

Great reaction. I never tire of watching Queen at LiveAid, often considered the greatest rock live performance of all time. I am glad you are interested in reacting to more Queen music…….it never disappoints. I suggest you consider White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975 and In the Lap of the Gods, live at the Rainbow 1974.

I laughed at how you said you hated the song but grinned from ear to ear and sang along anyway. Freddie has that affect. You can't help but smile when he performs. Brian May wrote Hammer To Fall for the 1984 The Works album. It was a fairly successful single along with Roger Taylor's Radio Gaga that did much better. Keep in mind that with a few exceptions, Queen were always better live. Especially their 80s songs. Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love in 15 minutes in 1979 in the Munich Hilton in the bathtub. He wrote mostly on piano but would write songs on guitar as well. It was a tribute to Elvis who had died two years previously. For great Queen live try Fat Bottomed Girls Live at the Bowl 1982 and Somebody To Love Live in Montreal 1981. Also some great early Queen - Stone Cold Crazy Live at the Rainbow 1974 and White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975.

This was a huge Concert in 1985 it was a Worldwide Rock Concert organized to raise money for the relief of famine stricken Africans. (1985 Live Aide) there was something like 72,000 (London) in attendance in Wembley Stadium and close to 90,000 in attendance at the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa. U.S.A. and you have to remember there was no Social Media or Internet... But it was broadcasted All Over the World.. everyone who had access to a tv could watch All of These Fantastic Artist's come Together "Thirteen Satellites beamed a live television broadcast into More than One Billion viewers homes, in 110 Countries! It was EPIC in This Era. Kids came to each others houses to watch it together. MAN!... times were so different compared to the way things are now! You might like to check out "USA For Africa - We Are The World (Official Video)" it's wonderful to see so many artists performing together and for such a noble cause. The song "Hammer To Fall [Off the 1984 album The Works]" was pretty popular in the US..

I was 17 when I went to a Queen concert in 1978 and we all suspected he was gay. I was, too, but the world was a different place and he did not come out ever, only admitting to having AIDS the night before he died. We just did not tell people about our sexuality/etc. back then. Society required it be kept secret and coming out had a lot of repercussions. Blessedly, he is a gay icon for the community and we hail him proudly.

Rory - I see you did this a year ago, I just stumbled in. I'm a 73 yr old American who was never a Queen fan (other than Rhapsody). I hated Radio GaGa and Champions just like you. However, one night watching this video on someone's reaction channel I was totally mind-blown by this presentation. I've since seen it dozens of times on dozens of reaction channels. Some are awed by the crowd or were dumbfounded to learn that Rock You or Champions were by Queen. I could see that you knew Queen and many of their songs. I really liked your honest reactions, saying you hate it but then singing along because of the power belted out by Freddie. I did hit the buttons and will see what else you have visited in the past year. Good luck and Holiday Wishes to you.

The more I listen to and watch this video, the more apparent it is how little credit Roger Taylor gets for his “back-up” vocals. You need to really listen for it, because they never pan in on him, but Freddie had a throat infection and was advised by his doctor not to perform, but went on anyway. Freddie KILLED EVERY NOTE in EVERY SONG, but you can hear Roger really belting in the back. He sounds incredible also. Amazing, historic performance from start to finish, in every aspect.

The song you wondered about was "Hammer To Fall" In the 1980's we were so close to the edge of Nuclear War. The cold war got hotter and hotter and every day brought a real fear amongst people all around the world. Here we stand or here we fall History won't care at all Make the bed light the light Lady mercy won't be home tonight yeah You don't waste no time at all Don't hear the bell but you answer the call It comes to you as to us all We're just waiting For the Hammer To Fall Oh ev'ry night and every day A little piece of you is falling away But lift your face the western way Build your muscles as your body decays yeah Toe your line and play their game yeah Let the anaesthetic cover it all Till one day they call your name You know it's time for the Hammer To Fall Rich or poor or famous For your truth it's all the same (oh no oh no) Lock your door the rain is pouring Through your window pane (oh no) Baby now your struggle's all in vain For we who grew up tall and proud In the shadow of the mushroom cloud Convinced our voices can't be heard We just wanna scream it louder and louder louder What the hell we fighting for? Just surrender and it won't hurt at all You just got time to say your prayers While your waiting for the hammer to Hammer To Fall It's gonna fall Hammer, you know, Hammer To Fall While you're waiting for the Hammer To Fall Give it to me one more time

He was Bisexual, even though that's also considered under the LGBTQ umbrella of gay. Who he considered the love of his life was his woman Mary but he also loved Jim Hutton. I'm also bisexual so he was always an inspiration for me. It's just a shame they didn't have the treatments for what killed him as they do now for us. Freddie had laryngitis and was told he couldn’t sing. He did anyway. They performed the best concert here in history. 40% of the world watched them. The other performers agreed Queen killed it! Btw Radio GaGa at this concert inspired Lady GaGa to come up with her performance name. RIP Freddie. The song you wanted to know is Hammer to Fall written by Brian May. Every member wrote a number one hit. Only rock band to do that. Freddie could play any instrument and was a phenomenal writer. Yes Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love in his bathtub-took him 11 minutes. Genius. Btw we knew he was gay back then. We didn’t care. We were young and we accepted Freddie for the amazing singer/musician he was. Because when he sang he sang to each of us and the band’s talent was undeniable.

Yes he was openly bisexual. A common mistake by some straight folks is ignoring the women in our bisexual relationships, saying that as a bisexual person myself. Great honest reaction, most exaggerate. Brian May stated Freddie only played guitar on the downstroke which as you know too well means he has to play twice as fast. Interesting if you look at the audience clapping on Radio gaga you can see the wave progress from front to back. Before this donations were slow, Queen put energy bach in. Yeah , I'm not a big fan of Radio Ga Ga , but it's a historical moment with the crowd participation , the crowd singing Love of my Life is even more impressive !

Love your cynicism. In the end you can't deny Freddie's sheer talent and charisma.

Hammer To Fall (the one you enquired about) is even better in the Wembley concert of 86 with the key changes during one of Brian's solos. The best part of the Live Aid version however is its faster tempo. I got so used to this that when i heard the studio version it felt like snail's pace. The tempo at the 86 Wembley performence is somewhere in between, but the key changes make it more enjoyable for me to play along to.
