Just one example of Dawson's exemplary attention to detail in portraying Ahsoka Tano.

I disagree, as she's the wrong body type and voice. Asoka has a well established high estrogen type of face and a soft voice, which gives a very pointed weak chin and very wide set eyes. Dawson by contrast is quite butch/masculine in appearance with a very strong square jaw and a deeper voice than most women. By contrast look at others like Halle Berry or Olga Kurylenko or Emma Watson, you'll notice the more femme look and small size that would have matched Ahsoka. This is like a "what if" scenario where Ahsoka dabbled in steroids.

I think she still speaks kind of stiff. The example I have is: Eckstein's Ahsoka uses contractions, Dawson's Ahsoka does not. It was nice to see her have more emotional range in the Boba Fett episode than in Mando. I think she's doing a great job and I'm really, really looking forward to the Ahsoka series where Dawson will have more screen time to perfect her role!

That happens when you let Filoni direct and write instead of overseeing. He's about as bad at dialogue as George was, and that's saying something, and he can't direct live-action because of his experience being primarily with animation. I think they should have let Favreau do the directing, he's far superior to Filoni at the live-action direction.

In German the "ilusion" is even better since we have the same voice actress for Ahsoka here as we did for all 13 years. Same goes for the voice of Jango, Boba and all clones, Anakin & Obi-Wan even in the animated series, everything. I feel so grateful for that.

That must be nice, although when I think of ahsoka I hear Ashley’s voice with it, an older ahsoka should have a different voice from when she was 14, I know she has the same voice in rebels which is like 10 years earlier but the discontinuity in the voice doesn’t really bother me since Rosario plays ahsoka well

I'm glad Ahsoka outlived everyone. Filoni even hinted that she outlived the Luke and Leia too! She's a relic of the Jedi past, someone who still has trouble coming to terms with the Jedi title, but also represents the best of what the Jedi are meant to be. I have a feeling Filoni has a hard time letting his character pass away at some point, and I'm okay with him letting her live as long as she can.

@buddyltd
@buddyltd 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware, Filoni designed her to be annoying on purpose. Ironically, it worked to get people to like her. When TCW dropped, of course fans would gravitate to the characters they knew - Anakin, R2, Obi Wan, Padme etc. If Filoni introduced a character who was cool off the bat, people wouldn't grow to like her, because they had all of these characters they could like instead. So Filoni made a genius, 4D chess move. He made her hateable. But the ways in which he made her hateable were within his control. So, while fans were becoming used to her over the course of a long series, he began to fix those negative traits through good writing and story. So now, not only do fans _know_ her, they start to forget/forgive/look past what they formerly saw as annoying or hateable. And of course, it's worked phenominally, with fans becoming excited by the sheer thought of her being in new Star Wars material. I love this approach. It's just masterful writing by Filoni. He read what people would do, so he played on that and created a character who is now one of the most beloved in Star Wars canon.

Hmm, I agree, I can understand the head piece being smaller to make it easier, although would have preferred of it was bigger. But one thing that bothers me the most is the cheek markings, the rest of the markings are about the right size, but the ones on the cheeks are way too small, based on her last images of her they almost touch the eyebrow markings, which is sad since the markings aren't like the headpiece that cause problems, since it is pretty much just paint. But as you said, when she gets into it and you start seeing her doing it so well it makes me forget about that for a while. It is just sad that some minor things got overlooked in the original design making it look a tad off, but hey, how she portrays it, personally, makes up for those minor mishaps.

@@mastere6115 You can forgive issues with a character's look, so long as you get the CHARACTER RIGHT. And, yeah, the markings on her brow are way too thin. They're almost pencil line-like, when they should be about eyebrow-thick. The headpiece, I didn't notice at all. It was mostly the way the facial features and markings were off, but... Agreed, it just didn't matter to me after she was speaking. I just smiled and said 'Ah, so THAT is what gets exaggerated in the cartoon filter!'

Anyone else feel like she changed her voice a bit for BOBF to sound more like Ashley? I felt like her tone was just slightly higher pitched. Sounded good! I didn’t think it sounded bad before, but definitely sounded better in my opinion than her Mandalorian episode.

Something I noticed (and pointed out multiple times to my family who barely watched the Clone Wars Series) was how spot-on how even her walk was. The way she has an almost rolling bounce to her step just like Ahsoka does is so cool and accurate. I really appreciate the attention to detail Dawson has to her character.

I love that she gets all this practice in other Star Wars series before her own feature- it just makes me feel like when we get Ahsoka we’ll be getting someone who’s inhabited the character for a meaningful amount of time- from her perspective as an actor she’ll have more experience, and from our perspective as an audience we’ll be so comfortable with her portrayal of Ahsoka! Very smart to do things that way, especially when the character is so beloved by so many fans (and by Filoni)! I have no doubt that Ahsoka (the show) will be amazing thanks to this ✨

Genuinely shocked by how much gushing love this episode got. Ahsoka's entire story arc is that she learned that the old Jedi way is absolute garbage. While the actions of Palpatine and Anakin are obviously theirs to bear, the Jedi weren't blameless either and certainly contributed to the societal detritus that paved the way for Palpatine's rise to power and their own subsequent fall. ~17 years after leaving the Order, she *reiterated* that she was "No Jedi" and then fast forward another, what, like 10ish years and in Mando S2 she feels somewhat like Ahsoka, if not in her contraction use then at least in her determination and self-respect. She refused to take on the burden of training Grogu; that was not her path because she's what? No Jedi. This all tied well with her rejection of the Old Jedi Way. She felt more mature, had a bit more of a stoic vibe, but genuinely felt like the same character we saw over the course of TCW and Rebels. Now, suddenly, both she and Luke are #TheJediWereRight? Huh?? Luke's attachment to his father is literally the *only* reason the Empire is no longer formally around and that the Emperor was defeated by the Chosen One. Had he abandoned his attachments and KILLED his father like Obi-Wan and Yoda believed to be the sole path... he would have accomplished what, exactly? Killing the Youngling Slayer... only to almost assuredly be killed by Palpatine. Now sure, Mando S3 could actually address the discrepancy and provide ample explanation for either why they've radically shifted perspectives within only a handful of years... or they could reveal that neither actually wanted Grogu to abandon his attachments. IMO, that all sounds like wishful thinking though. But that still doesn't matter until it matters; in terms of mannerisms and whether the characters felt like themselves, we only have the current episode to go off of and... well, they don't? Combine that with the slightly different speaking mannerisms and it's jarring. Why are people so thrilled with this depiction? Also -- to be clear -- I love Rosario as Ahsoka. As I mentioned, I vastly preferred her Mando appearance. To me that felt waaaaaay more like Ahsoka than... whatever this was. Same with Luke tbh though obviously he had way less screen time and dialogue; but that just means he had no time to NOT feel like Luke from ROTJ. He suddenly, and without explanation, already kinda feels like Sequel Luke. If their intent is to "rEtCoN" the sequels by having a Luke depiction feeling more akin to what we had in Legends, this is a *bizarre* first step toward that goal. If the goal is to link ROTJ Luke to depressed hermit failure as a person and as a Jedi Luke from the Sequels, which many felt didn't seem to line up well even with the explanation given in TLJ, then in theory, these shows should do for the Sequels what TCW did for the Prequels... and in that case, this is a *bizarre* first step toward that goal. Also let's not pretend like Favreau and Filoni are some infallible geniuses -- they literally wrote an entire season of Mando devoted to handing Grogu off to Luke only to reunite them after *checks notes* a SINGLE episode lmao. No stakes for anything.

Ashoka left the order because she felt betrayed by it (BTW, that's much un-Jedi like. A Jedi doesn't quit. His goal is not to be recognised as a good guy by the order, but to tip the scale in favour of the light side). That's why she says she's no Jedi, not because she dislikes what the Jedi are. Luke's attachement is what made him nearly killed in TESB and nealry a Sith in TROTJ. The reason the Empire is no longer formally around is that Luke, seeing Vader's prostetic arm, had seen himself in his enemy and felt pity for him, in that moment he was a Jedi. Not because he had a special attachment to his father, but would have killed any other guy he had already disarmed in that same situation.

When she did hand gesture I have instantly saw Ashoka hardcore and actually cried. I can't wait to see how much she refined in the time we get to the Ashoka series.

I feel like her introduction in The Mandalorian was just a little bit off.....just bit. Can't exactly say what it was. She was still super amazing in that show, but I feel like in The Book of Boba Fett, she nailed the character as close as you can get. It genuinely feels like this is the same character form the Clone Wars, which is epic. I was pretty worried about this character coming to live action, just due to how important she is, and how much of an impact she has on the franchise, but Rosario Dawson absolutely did an amazing job.

Y'know, Ahsoka kinda exemplifies Obi-Wan's "from a certain point of view" mindset. She was still alive during the OT era, she could have been a powerful ally to Luke and tell him more about his father. She was still out there... But Yoda still told Luke that he was going to be "the last Jedi". Because Ahsoka wasn't a Jedi anymore by then. "From a certain point of view, the last Jedi you will be, because that powerful Force-sensitive Togruta woman, no longer a Jedi is". Yeah, yeah, I *know*, writing wise Ahsoka didn't exist back then, but from a narrative point of view, I wonder if it was Yoda being spiteful, tricking Luke, or just encouraging him to defeat Vader all by himself.
