Kate Losenno always knew she would need aortic valve replacement. She was born with a bileaflet aortic valve, and her heart condition played a major part in her decision to go to medical school and become a cardiologist. Her medical background also gave her more insight into the heart valve replacement options that would be best for her, which led her to choose the Ross Procedure. Since her surgery in June 2014, Kate quickly resumed her hobbies - running, snowboarding, and competing in triathlons.

many thanks for sharing your story, I have been diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve and due for valve replacement soon. this is one of the options presented to me by my consultant here in the UK. I am 58 years old and leading very active life

Thanks so so much for this video, my daughter has CHD aortic valve stenosis + bicuspid , she already had the ballooning done but was left with a severe leak. her cardiologist recommends the Ross now and this video gave me insight on what its about and a patient prospective. thanks for being so positive and informative. i wish more patients would tell their story cause parent need the information and it calms them down to see the great outcome!

Hope she still is alive, going for ross at age of 41 in november 2023 too. Fingers-crossed it works out to be the right decision .

Ended up with mechanical valve, doing okay, getting used to blood thinners and ticking.

@@webgame1718 first 5 days are hard, lot of pain but no fear it becomes better every day. Takes 1-2 weeks in hospital to be released home. Then at home got fever for 2 weeks, also goes away. Then i was walking as much as I could which is not much at the beginning. felt like a 90 year old dude :-) Then after 6 weeks went into rehab. those 4 weeks were pure gold to make me fitter again. today 12 weeks tomorrow after surgery I feel no pain but still train every day on erogmeter to become as fit as I can. sternum heals another month or so I wont do any weights training. Focus on legs now and heart with ergometer 30-40 minutes every day. There is just one rule going through this surgery. STAND UP AND WALK, even if you have pain, it will help you so much to get fitter faster in the end! Trust your doctors, for them its just another day in the office. If you can see it the same way, you will walk through it and take what ever comes like a champ and remind yourself it gets better from day to day. Keep smiling, be positive and be happy with life. How long after surgery were you able to resume your fitness. I know that keeping control over blood pressure is key to recovery with the Ross procedure.
