In this episode we machine the bronze bushing, and press it into the center support tube. As always, I try to include a few helpful tips along the way. Enjoy! Adam

Watching the turning in general, but especially the bronze turning is mesmerizing... it often looks like you are watching an eclipse. Thank you for making this process more accessible to people who never took shop in school or knew how a lathe worked.

If you dont want the bronze to spray all over the shop, You can do what Keith Fenner does. He attaches a painters-brush with a magnet, rigth over the cutting tool. And the chips pile up rigth under ;) And again, awesome videos! thanks for sharing with us!

Wife’s watching football, I’m watching Adam. Crazy. Cripes! There she goes, yelling at the tube, again. Tell-ya what else is a bit crazy… I don’t have the confidence in my dentist that I have in Adam. Love that Monarch… it’s big, it’s quiet, it’s precise; (in competent hands) and that brass sings so nice and looks like gold. Still wait’n for the 4”, 4 pitch thread Adam! Brad

Sound a bit like is Brad, sometimes La gives me the tv and I watch KZfaq vids. Don't worry about the threading, it's coming up and I know you won't miss it. Heres some spoilers for ya: I cleaned up the faceplate today, so the threads are now ready for a good measurement. I've been working on the shaft, and it's coming up soon.

Very Nice Adam! I love the new angle that shows you at the dials on the lathe and how you tap in a thousandth or two...very cool shot. Also very interesting and thank you for the tip on cutting bronze with HSS as opposed to an inserted tool, that kind of stuff is invaluable for someone like me who wouldn't have a clue as to why I was wearing half of my chips. Great tip! Enjoying the build and I'll just add my congratulations on SNS #52 here so you don't get slammed on that subject. I hope you know that I truly look forward to a pleasant evening of hanging out with you and seeing how your week has been, and hope that you decide to keep the format, or at least a weekly video of some sort. I do know it's tough, and takes time away from other things, but at least you know you're making many, many people happy when you share of yourself, and even your family. It was awesome to see the bloopers and our buddy's little "unnecessary edit" on that intake manifold, LOL, that was hilarious!!! Aloha...Chuck

Thanks for all the continued support you give Chuck. I appreciate all the kind comments. I enjoyed the tip on the camera placement when I was adjusting the lathe handle. Ill keep that in mind for future videos. Sometimes we get in a hurry and just want to get the job done, and get a shot of it. But I do always strive to bring a new angle to what I'm doing. it may not be in every video, but I do try. I'll keep the videos coming. Some weeks its tough, but I always make it happen. I sacrifice a lot of time to make these, but it's all been worth it. Take care. Adam

As a fabricator/machinist/welder I love your videos. I would proudly display one or more of your stickers on my toolbox and/or my truck. I love the way you show how to center a 4 jaw lathe chuck every time you use one of your lathes. A lot of people nowadays are using the 3 jaw chucks for round stock and almost never turn square or square-ish materials anymore. I learned to use a 4 jaw back in high school way before they started using the table top cnc machines to save money on electricity and materials. I also learned a basic understanding of german due to the fact my high school was using donated machines and all of our engine lathes came from the german navy. One was even aboard a german battleship in WW II. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

That table is going to be a one of a kind masterpiece of a shop built workshop appliance. You could get Keith's logo plated that would look real sharp plated in brass or nickel or even better real gold would be a killer option for such a special personalized item but that might cost a chip-bucket load of cash, a nice daydream though. Powder coating is likely going to be the way to go, they do metallic colors that would look real spiffy when riveted on the black tube. Thanks to Keith for burning out all those great logos for your shop especially bending the one to fit the tube, that one will be the cherry on the top. It makes the table even more interesting and it was cool to begin with and is getting classier every day.

Love these videos - you're doing a great job providing a real shop experience for viewers. I used to turn a small undersized "lead" diameter on smaller pressed parts, especially in softer materials like aluminum where say a pressed plug could tear itself into a hole crooked. Perfectly aligned parts to start before the press applied any pressure. But I also like those rawhide hammers :). Enjoyed your "Bridgeport delivery" video too.

Regarding lubrication there is a material that we use over on some farm equipment which is commonly called fluid grease that might be appropriate for this piece of workshop art. We use it in heavy gearboxes and geartrains which are inclined to leak at the oil seals in heavy working conditions. Its better than SAE 140 and does not collect muck and rubbish any where near as bad as straight grease. It will pour slowly when ambient temps are above about 15Celcius but needs to be heated at lower temps but from what I have seen that is not likely to be a problem in your part of the world! I could find out more if you wish.

That is going to be the Mother of all welding tables! I think I like the idea of having it powder coated in black. Powder coat looks so nice and even and it resists bumps, chips and chemicals very nicely. The only real down fall is it is only slightly more resistant to damage from sparks than paint. Your logo would look real good powder coated in clear to show off that it is in fact real metal. I plasma cut some logos out of 11 gauge stainless for things I have built. They look real tough riveted in place. Keep it coming!

That shaft looks great !! After seeing it sitting on the base I really think it would look very nice to powder coat the base black and perhaps your logo. That shaft would pop right out if it were powder coated clear. It would be a focal point along with your logo. The logo could be brushed and clear coated, black and clear coated, or polished and clear coated, can't make up my mind. LOL. Anyway Adam, it's looking great. I do the same thing around my shop, if it's for me I like to purty them up.

Adam, Great job, my friend! Your welding table will be the envy of every welder in the country! (I can just hear welders talking among themselves: "Have you see the new Booth welding table?" "No! But I plan on building one! I can download the plans on KZfaq!") I have thoughts flying around in my mind of how to make a welding table for myself. First, I want to make a cart to put my Millermatic on, have a small drawer for consumables and have a shelf on the back for a bottle or two of C-25. If I get into other forms of welding (stick or TIG) I will build individual carts for each process. That way you don't have a ton of welders on one table with snarled cables and gas lines. Thanks again for the quality work you do! I have learned a lot from watching your videos as I have other others in this community! Thanks for sharing! As a thought, DoubleBoost got Debs to try her hand at MIG welding. Is Elena up to the task? :-) Anyway . . . have a good one! Dave

We've got serious humidity issues in our locale (Redwood Coast Cali/Oregon border) and a few years ago, I switched from oil to wax as a rust preventative. Got tired of having to constantly re-oil exposed surfaces in the shop. I use either a carnauba-blend "gun wax" or a synthetic called Renaissance Wax with good results. Wax isn't perfect for every situation, but I spend so much less time chasing the rust gremlins since switching to wax wherever I can get away with it.

@stephensmith87569 жыл бұрын
Adam When you were talking about the tube sweating up in the humidity when you took it outside to press the bush in, it made me think, do your safety glasses fog up when you walk out of the AC ? I'm short-sighted, so I have to wear glasses all the time, and then a larger, chunkier pair of safety glasses that fit over my other glasses, so I get a double dose of fogged lenses when it's humid here. The same thing happens with camera lenses, which is bad, because the inside of the camera sweats as well, and you can't see it happening. It's a real pain the a##, because you can't stop it, and like you said, it's a guaranteed rust starter, unless you take extra precautions. The welding table is shaping up to be an absolute beauty - like others, I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress. Thanks for sharing it.

The machinist community on youtube is a bit newer than other ones; woodworking, electronics as two examples, and i hope it does not repeat the same problems, quitting day job, changing to full time youtubers and then setting their selves a goal of a weekly or 2 videos, but then either struggling to gain content, thus just making a pointless/easy project to fill time, using opening mail and other peoples kickstarter projects as half of its content, pushing funding/ads/products/donations, and then random abaondoning their viewers later mentioning vacations and then saying they dont have time to make videos when they also say youtbe is their only job...... I enjoy the real machining going on with you guys, im not saying dont do mailbags, dont get me wrong, i love you showing projects and random ideas, and your passion, and I hope that doesn't run out!

Than darn humidity!!!! But hey its not too bad temps here are currently approaching 0F again and you are in shorts running the air conditioning!! lol Only bad part about bolting that tube down is you wont be able to gusset it. That will for shure make that the weakest part of this build by center loading that plate. In order to maintain the 15ton load rating for this table I would suggest putting some 1x4 box tubing running from just inside your casters and under your post. You could weld that on the bottom and really stiffen and brace that plate up a bunch, about 6 times to be exact.
@Abom799 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, I'll lay down a paycheck that no gussets or extra ribbing will be needed for this build. Man it's going to be plenty strong with a simple bolt pattern and probably 1/2-13 bolts. Did you take notice of the wall thickness of the tube? LOL It'll be good man.
@bcbloc029 жыл бұрын
Oh its not the tube I was thinking of its that 3/4 plate. I ran the numbers looks like 10000lbs is going to bow that sucker about an 1/8 inch without some more support. Can you live with that? lol
