This owner is one of the most in tune owners I’ve seen on your channel. She knows what she’s not understanding and doing wrong and that her dogs are actually good pups, she’s just not communicating correctly to her pups what she wants

Seeing how you dealt with the reaction to the little dog was so helpful. Seeing it in practice and not just theory is fantastic.

So this older lady has both a Rottie and a Corso? That is absolutely brilliant. She is showing both breeds do not need anything but a responsible owner.

This dude really knows his stuff and has a demeanour that means he can explain things in such a way that it makes sense. He is probably the best dog trainer / behaviourist I've seen on KZfaq. I have a Rottweiler (a large 135lb working male who can be very highly strung), and I see people picking their little yapping dogs up every single day. I see people turn and walk the other way, I see people cross the street, and worst of all I see people pick up their children. My dog is completely under control and has been professionally trained since he was eight weeks old. People only see the size and the breed, and don't see their own dog is the one out of control and being aggressive. Picking up a little dog who is being confrontational is only telling the little bugger you need protecting!

I forgot to mention, THANK YOU AGAIN Thomas for all that you do and all the knowledge you share! There is no way I could afford to pay for all the wisdom and guidance you freely give in these videos and live chats!

Great tips on dog training. It seems like dog training should really be called people training so that they can be successful at having a happy and balanced pet. Appreciate all the work you do in filming and editing these videos.

I'm glad that you showed leash handling. That was what my trainer didn't show me, and not knowing makes handling a reactive dog that much more risky. I fell into my confidence walk this summer (a year after getting the dog )and the impact on the dog was night and day! We walked past our first dog on the same side of the street last week. Every reactivity trainer should start with leash handling..... there's a Huge difference between managing reactive dogs and communicating confidence to them, thereby heading off a good part of the behaviour.

It's so inspiring to see you traveling all over the country. You have such a gift.

Omg I used to take my Great Dane to Delmar Beach from puppy stage until she was 15 years old when I lived out there. You are making me miss the beach! I am so glad you are teaching this lady how to train her Rottie to be calmer. There was a Rottie that got banned from that because because it was dog and people aggressive and the owner couldn't control it. The only problem I had with Guennie is that she was territorial about our blanket at the beach. Great video BTW.

Another awesome video! Very helpful as Sophie mirrors my Cloud. I find that when Cloud is in forward motion and moving with intent, such as walking , changing directions constantly etc., it keeps her engaged mentally so that there is allot less time for her to be distracted by other dogs. If she is standing still or in the fenced yard off leash, she is much more focused on being aggressive to other dogs

Our race ended so far from nature. That's why we don't have a general understanding of the language of nature. Thomas reintroduces these owners to that language. 💪 This knowledge should be taught in elementary school or even kindergarden with the same importance as how to tie a shoelace, how to count to ten, how to speak/read/write, etc. This video is wonderful!

Omg youre here in San Diego!!! We live here as well!! Ive watched other trainers and am absolutely AMAZED with how amazing you are with every pup you come in contact with! Still having trouble with our lab but looking through your videos has definitely been giving me insight. Im still not confident with him though, even worse now since he bit me for the first time on the 4th. At this point hes bitten my 3 kids and myself except for my hubs which is his "person". I have no clue how to get him to respect me anymore. After last week I feel defeated and definitely discouraged. Hes so reactive/aggressive to any other dogs and some people, and now the only way to walk him is with a prong collar (which only the hubs does since i feel like i just cant). He literally only listens to him, but me and the kids are with the pup 85% of the time. We've had him since he was 6 weeks and he was the sweetest...i just dont know what happened. I tried walking him for the first time yesterday, with the prong collar, and he literally still tried to pull me. At this point i understand that it has ALOT to do with me and not feeling confident but idk how to get over it 😞😭

What are your thoughts on prong collar vs. training collar (choke chain) for dog reactivity?

That dog in the park at the 7 minute mark is a completely different dog, then the first one in the parking lot.

Im actually amazed at the rotties reactiveness to the heel and sit commands.

That Cane Corso was stunningly beautiful..Tom was she a puppy and did she need the pronged collar, because I noticed her leash wasn't thick.

*In reality this woman doesn't need a Rottweiler. She thinks he is going to protect her. But what she doesn't know is that less than 90% of dogs just bark a few times and back off, and only less than 10% of dogs that are not trained for protection can fulfill the protection job.*

Tom I am waiting for you to come to Philly so me and my boy HEMI can be one of your students. Even if can't come to Philly somewhere nearby, we would meet you. I love all your videos and seeing this woman with these two amazing powerful breeds let's me know I can do this too. I finally got him to the Veterinarian after a long time and although he was sedated he was still out of control and needed to be muzzled. The Veterinarian said he was extremely healthy and she is looking forward to him coming back next year for his wellness exam.

It's interesting. Instinctively, I would have picked up my child if I saw a Rottweiler coming toward us. Natural response. I would not have considered the behavior, I would have looked at the breed. Great learning experience!

Thanks for this I do this with the dog I watch/ walk he is a lab/ pit bull mix we think I call him monster his name is tanner but I have trained him well and he listens to me when we walk the trail and other dogs come ahead of us/ passing us before we pass by each other I prepare him and give a tug on leash and say leave it wand we walk past other dogs no problem 😊🐶 and I sometimes ask the other owner if tanner can say hi it goes well I just say be gentle and he know that means no teeth just lick or sniff. I have trained him since he was a 8 week old puppy now he is two I am so proud of him he is such a good boy.

First off, thank you for all the great content! I've been watching a lot of your videos and getting a little better at recognizing that moment of build up. I've been looping over 4:38-4:43 because that happens a lot with my dog where I've missed the correction point and she has already lunged and ends up kinda dangling and then it's all down hill from there. But, I noticed that as you lowered the dog you did a quick correction as soon as she lands. I want to try that with my dog. But, here's my question just for my clarification. It seems like the correction as soon as she landed came with the verbal 'leave it' at the same time. I remember you saying in a few other videos that owners make the mistake of correcting and giving a command at the same time. So, if you can clarify that for me in this video, I'd love to try it out as closely as you did it in the video on my next walk with my dog. (I have a 9kg Jack Pit brindle female mix rescue. She loves people but loses it on dogs. I walk her with a muzzle. I have been nicked while she is still snapping and twisting in mid air). Thanks so much. I've also begun saying 'Good (command)!' right after the behavior to confirm and make it clear to both of us that this is exactly the behavior we want and I think it's making that final difference and making it stick for her.

Ha I can relate to this, as I see another dog coming my way I feel myself building up hahaha sometimes my dog hasn’t even seen the other dog and I’m already reacting. I’v owned a few horses in my life and the best advice I’v ever heard was that horses live in he NOW, NOT the past so forget it. Forget the other dog, forget how my dog reacted the last time and treat every time as a new opportunity to succeed. It’s easier said than done but if I could handle a horse blowing up I will be able to handle a 65 lbs dog. I’m not concerned with my dog getting away from me so from a safety point of view the situation is under control, I also have an e collar that vibrates and works really well so whats our deal? We want to be in control of the situation and when our dogs blow up we feel like we failed. This was a great video

4:37 not trying to criticize and you probably didn't see it at that moment because you were looking at the other dog, but if im understanding it right, think she lunges ever so slightly up here and maybe could have snapped out of with a correction?

Great tips! do you travel around to train dogs?

Ive been working on my dog and being reactive. There has been a lot of improvement. One of the things we are still struggling on is her being reactive on trails. She absolutely loves going on hikes. But sometimes when we pass by ppl with dogs she will bark and lung. A thing to note is the trails shes doing this on is when the walking space is very narrow. I usually will step off the trail with my dog to give some space between us and the passersby. I want to still be able to take her on hikes she loves it so much

Adopted a 3yr old GSD rescue. Great dig! He is dog and ppl aggressive. How do I keep a loose leash when he is in attack ( I want to kill them) the minute we get out of the Jeep? I am using a correctly fitting Sprenger 3.0 but have a 2.5 coming this week, and always a muzzle. He has the potential so I know it’s me needing the training!!

Tom - thanks for this! I wish I had known about this! I still struggle with one of my dogs that I adopted three years ago. I went through training and still have issues when my dog sees another dog while we walk at the park. Question though. Was that an extra collar that was attached to the leash? Where do you get them?

I have a strong 9 month pitmix puppy, have had him since he was 2 months old and he has gotten to be wonderful on a leash, walks beside me on a loose leash, except when he sees another dog, especially one of his buddies. He's not aggressive, he wants to play but i still can't have him yanking me off my feet. I shorten up on the leash and can control him that way but how do i teach him to greet other dogs calmly? I know part of it is the puppy energy but still I need to figure out how to curb this behavior. He gets plenty of socialization with dog friends in the neighborhood and at a very responsible doggie daycare. Any tips you can give me?

take a link out of that prong! and place it higher. good work. distance may have been more your friend with the small dog or as you stated turning and moving away.

I've been walking and working her around dog populated areas, observing her's and other dog's body language, being a herding breed she's very aware of her surroundings and is she's scanning areas so I have to if you will think ahead of her while remaining calm. I ask her to look at me, turn, heel, etc.. Will a dog ever completely recover from leash being reactive? Thanks 😊

I am having a huge problem at home with my dogs. My 6 month old puppy (67 lb puppy) attacks my 2 year old (about same size) dogs ( 3 dogs total) seemingly out of the blue! Any suggestions? We believe we can help the situation we just need guidance!

Hello love your videos! Mydog is 20 lbs. And has become reactive to other dogs pulling on their lead and force themselves into her space. Which in turn makes it hard to keep my dog relaxed and in heel position as we walk past. What can I do to keep my dog behaved walking past dogs who arent behaving?

that part of this job when pepople ask u how it is to work with dogs.......... when the reality is that we work with people :D dog is a reflection of us, of our anxiousness, of our fears.... breath, give them trust and .... exercise! No bad dogs! thanks tom! ^_^
