The FCI is the international dog registry, who provides this breed standard for the Rottweiler.
The Rottweiler is considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds. Its origin goes back to Roman times. These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving their cattle. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing. The main task of the Rottweiler now became the driving and guarding of the herds of cattle and the defence of their masters and their property. This breed acquired its name from the old free city of Rottweil and was known as the « Rottweil butcher’s dog’ ». The butchers bred this type of dog purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate watch and driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught dog. When, at the beginning of the twentieth century, various breeds were needed for police service, the Rottweiler was amongst those tested. It soon became evident that the breed was highly suitable for the tasks set by police service and therefore they were officially recognized as police dogs in 1910.
Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.

Skull to muzzle ratio is 1.5 - 1 60-40 not like some of the Timit tor lines we see. Lips should be black and gums dark, not pink. Eyes should be Dark brown. Feet should point straight not east west. Back legs should not look bowed from the back or like cow hocks. There is a lot to learn about the standard.

I love how majestic they look with their tails! Such a great and noble breed. Whoever started that awful concept of tail docking should never have owned a dog. Furthermore, it's disgusting that the American standard for many breeds is docked tails and cut ears. It only harms these amazing creatures and handicaps them.

Estuardo440, you can show a Rottweiler with a tail in the U.S. , some judges aren't going to let you win any points, but there are more and more who will. There are 21 AKC Champion Rottweilers with tails now.

How to tell if my Rottweiler has the correct size head or if too small or too big, according to the standard
@1packatak
@1packatak 3 жыл бұрын
The dogs in this video are very good representatives of a correct head. If you can find a Seiger show near you, it would be a good thing to try. The judge will do a verbal evaluation of all of the standards, and you get a written copy. Even if you have never been to one, other handlers will be more than happy to help you learn the ropes and give advice. You could also try googling for a Rottweiler skull/muzzle measurement device. They are made of polycarbonate plastic. And the exact cutout of a proper skull/muzzle is cut into the plastic. You simply set it on your dog’s head. They also have an “eye” chart. It has pieces of glass in various shades of brown, starting at the proper color and then fading to the incorrect color.

The most important aspect of a working dog is the temperament, health of body and ability to work beautifully with handler. The emotional health of the canine is the most important. Shows have destroyed the historic legacy of the working canine. A so called major flaw, that had no bearing on health is linked to the arian philosophy of old Germany. The only flaw is serious health issues: most importantly emotional dysfunction. The basic standard is necessary, but all this details are pedantic nonsense. There is difference of certain puppies in the same litter. This is organic genetic engineering, not faults. Man's standard perceived knowledge inherited by those who followed blindly. Nature's standard is perfect. How the hell can the A.K.C have a standard of a dog, by docking of tails? We can maybe understand if it was herding, and being chewed on by wild goats. We've just accepted these nonsensical human drudgery. Nature provides tails for physical balance and even emotional expression.

It’s damn shame and pathetic these clubs don’t require rotts to have a tucked tummy. There is literally no benefit to have a belly line level with there chest. The result is a fat looking dog. A dog with even just a slight tuck will out work a dog with a fat belly any day. My moms male right on 100lbs and her female at 72lbs granted she was the runt of the litter will work any of the fat monsters on this video any day of the week. They concentrate to much on looks and not enough on form.
