If you’ve only just got her, it’ll take a few months for her to settle and feel more secure. Take things slow with short training sessions, give her lots of praise when she’s good I would say more than usual if she’s nervous/timid.

You have do outdoors training esp with distractions. Indoor and Outdoor training else you have trained dog just inside the house. Hope advice helps.

Kay I just wrote the exact same comment about my pit bull, she does the same exact thing, but I don't know if she would bite because I don't let her get near anyone. Mine is also 2, she was fine from about the age of 1 and just got worse over the year. I hate it because she's such a sweet girl but everyone thinks she this mean aggressive pit bull and she's not.

Kay Strangers equal good things happen. I use the prong collar with 2 fingers on the leash. I started a 4 yr old reactive (overly excited by people but reactivity nonetheless) American Pitbull Terrier in service dog training. His true temperment is calm and chill but due to mine thus his isolation it caused reactivity so I had to work through that. Today you would have never guessed but it took a lot of hard work. None of that is on video sadly as I started my videoing about 4 or 5 months into training but I did many calming activities with him. After I learned how to use a Mini Educator correctly and spent a good 3 or so solid weeks teaching him the language of it, we would go outside where there are a lot of kids, dogs, and people in general (I live in an apartment complex but you can do this in a park) and I would lay out a blanket and a chair, down him on the blanket and I'd sit in the chair. Any whining or any head lift, any sign of any reactiveness got corrected with the e collar. The calmness got rewarded. Built that duration up slowly until we were out there a solid hour or more. I also changed how I lived with him. Calmess was our home from now on. The only thing I allow is barking at the door for saftey since I live alone but he must stop barking (and whining), be totally silent and go to place and stay there when asked. That got trained slowly. Check out BAT 2.0. Its great as well. Use many different techniques. So what works for your dog may not for another. Every single dog is different. One may need more corrections and one may not need any at all and may do horrible with corrections. Structure works for us. But our needs are different. Research reactivity. There are LOADS of techniques out on youtube for free. Try them all out and see what works. I can say that a prong correctly fitted and correctly used is a powerful tool as is the Mini Educator correctly used. I know Larry doesn't use the prong but Chopper responds the best with pressure. That's him though. Your dog maybe totally different. You need to research, try it out, research, try it out, etc. I've had to get creative in many ways but it all pays off in the end.

Daily clicker training and develop confidence and focus on you and the behaviors you want, take their strongest behavior and find a way to use it properly, and exercise them. You also have to work on your issues and be calm about strangers, dogs feed off of us. Once your dog behaves how you like indoors and slowly add distractions when they are ready, this takes time and dedications but it works, then work to a porch or walkway that has no distractions. Slowly add distractions. If you leave a dog just running around a yard you will get issues. See Kikopup as well as Larry here on clicker training. You can not force a dog, it just adds to anxiety, and e-collars may add to fear, just makes the issue worse. Also make sure you dog is healthy, has limited vaccines and is fed cooked or raw food,, see Dr Dobias and Dr Pitcairn here on youtube and their articles and books. If a friend who was disabled with MS at age 50 could take a wild unaltered stallion adult that want to kill 2 men and never could leave his stall to the most well behaved horse that won awards, you can to, just get local support and don't give up. The rewards will be amazing. Also your dog needs a job, if it is going to be alerting please see Stonnie Dennis as he trains attack dogs to also stop on command and be safe around kids, but first you need to work through the problems calmly and get a predictable dog. Ana Larson E collars (a mini educator), correctly conditioned and correctly used *DOES NOT* cause fear. Larry uses an e collar as do I. I have many videos with his e collar refresher trainings and he is playful, happy, and in no way in fear or being hurt. E collars (again, a Mini Educator, not the cheap brands) are *POWERFUL* tools if used correctly. It even helped me teach my dog how to bring items up to my lap (he is a service dog in training, therefore very essential) when all techniques with the clicker failed. We still use marker training, a lot. We dont use the clicker due to fear that he could not overcome (fear of the clicker, not of the e collar, due to a word I said when I used it so we use marker training now which still works just as well). But the e collar is an amazing tool. Most especially for off leash obedence which is also essential for a mobility service dog but even pets that go hiking off leash obdience is essential. "Positive only" failed for me when I did it correctly for over 4 months. We couldn't even get out of the door. For *FOUR MONTHS* I struggled. Add in an e collar and 3 weeks to condition that correctly and *BAM!* Our training took off! I would not be where I am today without it. Please don't speak of a tool you are ignorant about!
