This is Brody. Brody has a lot of anxiety when on leash due to some harsh training by a previous trainer. We will fix Brody and start the healing process through the use of touch

What you are saying is 100% true. I am a disabled veteran who was blessed to receive a service Dog for my condition. Rogue was sent to a trainer (asshole) at 6 months old, who lit my dog up and didn’t feed him for 2 weeks. With that said he was removed from her house and placed with another trainer who is great however lacks the experience to help him and correct the fear. So he was failed and I will be getting him back in 2 weeks. He is now 1 years old and I have no idea what I’m going to do other than love on him a help him get through his fear so that he can help me. If he can’t I will be reaching out to you for your awesome training.

Had a similar situation with a highly regarded trainer in my area. I cried for days. He undid all the work we did over the course of a few months in just a few hours. I have re conditioned him to the e collar now, but I felt incredibly guilty for the longest time.

I’m a new subscriber! You are the first trainer to actually and easily give simple advice on helping a dog with fear of bathroom Leash high anxiety in general. You described Bruno my 2 year old GS.developed a noise phobia at 5 months old. A very loud garbage truck on our routine walk created a fear so deep that before he turned one year our trainer and I couldn’t work with him in class because of his anxiety. Went to many Vets and trainers since. It has been one of the hardest challenges for me seeing him hide And not come to go outside and to climb the corners. I continue to work with him and depending on the morning it can take up to an hour to get him leashed. I have been taking him on later evening walks where he is his happiest and it helps so much with giving him a tiny bit more ease and confidence during the daytime. I also continue our training at home and find crating him at night helps him. I appreciate you sharing the experience and clear demonstration of your love for these gentle giants. God Bless from Northern California

Bad training is bad training and must be identified as such. The worst trainer is the one that knows they are doing it wrong but choose to do it that way. Many of us say it like you said in the video, just many of us choose not to be on KZfaq. The sound quality is much better. Thanks for all you do.

I just came across your channel and I love your straight forward talk. My daughter and I recused a chihuhua his owner was choking him in the air by his collar. He was aggressive the first day. I let him be he hid in a corner. I let him come to me when he was ready. I notice he would kinda of lay on there floor when the the leash came out so I tossed it and purchased a harness. I did just what you did in the video without me knowing and anything and just started to massage him. I figured hey if relaxs me hopefully it will him and sure enough he started to be more relax. 7 day's in where I was going to bring him to a foster place to find a forever home I decided to keep him and it's been the best decision. He is soooooo good! 360 tail wagging, eating and peeing more often. I just need to try and train him to sit. I will definitely check out more of your video's. New subbie for sure!

Breaks my heart to see e-collars, pinch collars, choke collars, etc. misused. They all have their place and they are all good tools. But it seems to me that the use of these tools is widely misunderstood. I’ve trained two dogs on my own now and I’m working on a third. The first is my personal dog, he’s a Chessie/lab cross and he’s my hunting companion. The second is my best friend’s female who is the sister to my male. And the third is my boyfriend’s future hunting partner. All three are vastly different dogs in personality and mannerisms, but they got the same start on their basics on a basic lead. Wearing an e collar to get familiar with it (transmitter stays in the truck, and the collar itself is off, no mistakes happen this way), getting fun bumpers, learning to swim, to be steady, etc. I think it’s no coincidence that all three dogs are confident and happy in every situation and with every dog and person they meet. I’ve got lots left to learn but I’m glad I did the research and started off with an understanding of these tools before I started to implement them with my dogs. Glad to see someone else notices these injustices in the dog world.

Keep doing what ur doing!! Sounds like you've done an amazing job! Are you thinking about making that a career? The world needs more people like you that's for sure. Don't know if you would be interested, but since you seem to have working dogs, you could teach them some scent tracking. Just to challenge them, stimulate their brains even more. I'm only recommending that to you bc you seem to have a very dog savvy mind and i think you would do great with it. There's tons of info on the internet and I can "tudor" you lol. Give you guidance, advice, tips, etc. No hidden motives here....not trying to get anything out of it for me. Just like to help dogs be all that they can be! Hope the pack is doing well!! Take care.

I want to he open to learning but don't understand. Why use the collar off? If it works off do you ever use it on? Why use at all? What separates it from another option that doesn't use pain as a consequence?
@lexlikessharks
@lexlikessharks 2 жыл бұрын
@@benharper1506 as with everything, it comes down to personal opinion and preference. What I do with my dogs requires consistently sharp responses in order to ensure their safety because they’re being shot over (all of mine are working retrievers). The reason you would “start” a puppy wearing a collar that was off was so that they got used to wearing it and didn’t later associate any collar pressure with the collar itself. Otherwise they get “collar wise.” Meaning that you can’t ask them to do anything without it on or they’re likely to blow you off, knowing you can’t enforce your commands. As soon as my yellow puppy was big enough to bear the weight of a collar, he started toting one around. It was like his clothes. Had to put his clothes on before we went outside to play. And this was long before I ever started teaching. By the time I was ready to start collar conditioning, he was sharp and consistent in responding to all commands he then knew (sit, heel, down, place). Which is where most people go wrong and misuse a collar. Whatever path you pursue for you and your dog, I wish you well.

Truth! I ensure that not only am I using the lowest level on the e collar that he will respond to and start low and dial up and stop the second he responds but I also pair the e collar with play and food and affection always. I also do e collar refreshers once a week where I use lower levels on the e collar and do basic commands as I notice that a dog seems to "get used to" the e collar stimulation and you have to use a slightly higher level for the same response so we do weekly refreshers where I am dialing down a few levels then normal and am doing basics. That's keeping him responding at the same levels. I never ever ever correct high. Jeff Gelman does that and I can not ever see a reason to do that. I also cannot get into bonkers. I did it once when in bed as he sleeps naked and he coward away from me and I said never again. He isn't to ever be scared of me. Ever. It broke my heart that I did that to my dog! So much crap out there in dog training. Unfortantly due to a car accident I have gotten to see my dog shut down but I am working my butt off to un-shut him down. But he got there and it's the most horrible thing to see and experience. I have no idea how anyone can think that doing that and keeping a dog there is dog training. What are they learning by being shut down? *NOTHING!* Learned helplessness is what it is and its horrible!

"Cause you have a little wiener" hahaha. Loving the content. Thanks so much for the help! I have a high anxiety dog that we rescued from a kill shelter. Kind of stumped how to get him to relax. I try massaging him to cool him down, hasn't helped too much. He freaks out at every sound, and he goes completely crazy when we have company, he looks vicious to the strangers, but its a complete front, he is really terrified. After about 2 minutes, he cools down and is a great dog again. Hoping to get him relaxed and calm to a point to have the awesome dog that I know I have

I recognize this as a Carolina Dog, or at least a strong mix thereof. I have been working with one for past 18 months (surrendered by prior owners for bad behavior). Much of Brody's sensitivity to poor handling and his response to the touch may be explained when you are familiar with the breed. Very unusual, primitive personality and can be extremely loyal when he does accept you. Kudos to you Larry, for figuring out this quirky dog so fast.

I have a new dog that likely was abused. He came to me on Jan 1 enticed by my 2 dogs. Despite him being covered in snow balls and shivering, he took a long time to get inside. First time he let me pet him was when a male came over, looking for protection. We are very closely bonded now, he’s wagging, playing, being goofy. Men come in and he’s non stop barking, he bit both my male inspectors today...nips, not draw blood. I really want to find out how I can boost his confidence, deter his fear. Please help!

When I asked about it, they told me they put it on her because she was barking too much. Also, they told us she didn't go inside the whole 5 days and refused to eat. She was very dehydrated. I need help please….I have 2 puppies I got about a week or 2 ago…they were being abused/neglected, stuck in a chicken cage 3ftx4ftx1.5ft tall (4 puppies total were in the cage) The owners said I could only have two of them so I took two of them because there were piles of feces in the cage and they were just dumping a bucket of food in there and letting the dogs fight over the food to survive… I couldn’t just let them stay there if I could help it so I took the two that they would allow me to take… I can tell that they have been beaten and abused because they would yelp and try to run away if I tried to pet them… They keep running away from me when I try to get them to come inside after going to the bathroom and they keep going to the The bathroom in my house… I have tried to tell them no no and take them outside but they keep going to the bathroom in my house I even put a bell on the door handle and try to teach them to ring the doorbell to go outside… I have been trying to use a clicker a whistle and treats and they just don’t listen to anything I say… They are stressing me out a lot and I don’t understand why they won’t train at all… I’ve never had trouble with training dogs before. I know that they were abused because of how they behaved when I got them. I just don’t know what to do and I’m considering trying to give them away because they won’t listen and it’s been almost 2 weeks now. I don’t want to give them away because I love them and I want this to work. It’s really hard to train both dogs because they distract each other and just try to ignore me and play. Any help/advice is appreciated thank you!!!

Thanks for your videos, they've helped my family so much! We've trained our male german shepherd with an e-collar and it helped him night and day with obedience and with his behavior. His focus is 100% improved. While I was really focused on training him our female was pregnant and so I haven't tried the collar with her yet but would like to start soon. She is dog reactive on leash and off and I'd really like to help her with her fear of unknown dogs. Also we are keeping one of her puppies so in 2 weeks when the others go to their new homes we will start raising her! I've been binge watching your videos and I just bought your book I'd like to start reading! @TeslaNick2
@TeslaNick2 6 жыл бұрын
You just incorporate it into any training where you want an implied stay. So if teaching sit, the dog has to stay in position until you give the release command. Do the same with down/stays, going through doorways, staying at heel position etc.
@Iknowsomeofthesewords
@Iknowsomeofthesewords 6 жыл бұрын
All it is, is the “stay” command. It’s simple. You teach them to stay anytime you don’t give them a command. Once they have it down they will stay on their own. Any time you are ready to release them you state your release command and praise the dog for moving from the “stay” position.
@danishlodhi7165

There is nothing wrong with shock collars on a low setting 4-6 out of 100 you're not trying to hurt the dog you're trying to say hey listen to me however I wouldn't use a shock collar on a previously abused dog right away I would try other methods first positive reinforcement is a great training method and works great I had my dog potty trained very quickly with positive reinforcement and didn't get him an e collar until he was close to a year old and spent a pretty penny to buy a nice one with low settings which is what I recommend and if I ever get another dog I'll do the same

Lola has stopped trying to pee in the house but I can't seem to get her to stop marking. I resorted to buying reusable doggy diapers while inside. I have 4 other rescues, 3 cats 1 dog. Lola wants to squirt a couple drops on their stuff. Food and water bowls, personal blankets and toys. Any suggestions would be welcome. I will not give up on her. If I have to I'll keep the diaper on inside the house for the rest of her life but I'd rather not. I can't watch her every second. She does good for a couple days then bam she squirts on my husband's dirty laundry. I need suggestions!!!!

I believe you should not correct a dog first. Need to show them what to do first. Just like with my kids once you learn the rule they know what is expected.

You obviously only watched that one video then! Otherwise, you would've seen him holding a remote ALOT MORE! Larry is an avid e-collar user. He gets excellent results. The proof is in every video. Don't understand why you chastised him.

I love it he says the guy just started punishing him on the first session then he says the guy fostered the dog for a while. Ok so this guy fosters a dog for free then trains it for a discount since being a trainer for a shelter means working for less than what Larry would charge . To thank the guy for all his hard work Larry makes a whole video blaming the trainer for everything wrong with the dog. Larry is just selling himself like everyone else on social media. So far I have seen more training bashing than actual training on this channel. Really sad to see a good trainer needing to bash so many people just for views or attention or to preech to the Chior. I agree with what Larry says but the way he goes about doing it is just as mean as the people he is hating on.

To clarify, the trainer was a woman that worked with the rescue and also fostered some of the dogs prior to being put up for adoption. Because he wasn’t going to make it to the adoption floor, the shelter contacted this rescue group asking if they would take Brody in. Brody was in a terrible state of mind when he was pulled from the shelter, insecure and terrified of anything and everything. As part of the adoption through the rescue, you are required to do at least three training sessions with the rescue’s trainer. Which in this case also happened to be the same woman that was fostering Brody for 2-3 months after he was pulled from the shelter and prior to being put up for adoption. He was still in a pretty poor state of mind when we adopted him. But right away when we started meeting with her for the training sessions, she showed me very harsh tactics, which were WAY too much for a dog in Brody’s state. Once she started with the ecollar, she literally said over and over when Brody wouldn’t listen, “we’re going to break him” like Brody’s a wild horse that needed to be broken instead of being built up to be the best, most confident version of himself. I can assure you, Larry did not make this video for views or to gain popularity or attention. He made this video for ME, the owner, to show me and teach me what he was doing to help Brody work through his fears. And in the process of making it for me and posting it, maybe he can help other owners whose dogs have similar issues. Yes, he is obviously very unhappy with the previous trainer’s methods, and rightfully so. But he did not make this video solely to bash the other trainer.

Kacey Muller Calling someone and “asshole” and saying their private parts are small doesn’t seem to be necessary . If it wasn’t for that lady, he would possibly be dead, but she deserves to be put down over and over. I get dogs like this that a previous rescue abused and dogs that trainers have messed up on, but I would never bash them publicly, especially to make a point about being compassionate with animals.

Follow the Leader K9 I agree that if it weren’t for her, he may not be with me right now. So for that, I am incredibly thankful for her. But Larry is just calling it like he sees it. He’s not naming names, so what does it matter? He’s just expressing his opinion. If it bothers you that much then stop following him. But I for one appreciate his honesty. People need to know that that kind of stuff on a dog like Brody is not even close to okay. It’s a form of abuse. Screwing a dog up even more than he already was. It was completely unnecessary. But yes, I am incredibly thankful for that trainer because if it weren’t for her I would not have Brody. But I’m also thankful for trainers like Larry speaking their mind and speaking the truth and helping to educate owners and trainers.

Kacey Muller and I’m sure he eats meat and you do too and those animals being tortured every day until death doesn’t matter since they aren’t dogs. And I’m sure you both drive by homeless people with nowhere to sleep at night and have never offered them to stay in your home, it doesn’t matter because they aren’t dogs.....I think people should know the truth, that people rescuing dogs have it hard enough and do so much work for free and then get ripped apart if they make a mistake or are not the best dog trainer. I don’t see Larry doing anything for free other than talking shit. Nobody Rescues dogs because they love hurting them, and with this video maybe you can kill the lady’s drive and people like her to keep rescuing and struggling to understand how to work these dogs nobody wants or thinks twice about killing. Then the next dog like yours can be dead instead of having been even given a chance by the person who tried their best. “Pure positive balanced trainer” says everything anyone needs to know about Larry- he’s a hypocrite and he doesn’t make sense. I saw a video the other day just when meeting the dog he tells the people “it’s ok if you want to kill your dog”.

And unless you have a video of how he was before, u really have no idea if he is actually worse than he was before. It’s this kind of “watch out for the evil e collar trainer” that gets ecollars banned in other countries and states. It’s videos like this that get a dog killed before anyone can even try and e collar on vibration. I know this makes you feel high and mighty that u “saved a dog” from being tortured, but 4,000,000 dogs a year are getting euthanized in the USA I doubt hardly any are getting killed because they are messed up from a bad dog trainer. Most are killed because people are so scared of hurting their dog they will take it to a shelter before ever even trying to use an e collar. Glad you and your dog are good and my mom was wrong when she said “2 wrongs don’t make a right”. I was honestly watching Larry’s channel because I loved his training style, then I started seeing all his “im the good trainer, now let me bash other trainers more than anything else” and you are right I’m unfollowing him.
