How do you make rounded rectangles or curved text in Adobe Premiere Pro? Easy.
In 3 minutes, find out how to change sharp borders to have more rounded or curved corners using the Essential Graphics panel. I'll also demo how to control the corner radius, and add rounded corners to text.

It would be absolutely unbelievable to me if you could do some Adobe Rush video tutorials! I'm currently on my laptop for a few weeks and just started using it. I'm sure there would be a lot of interest in Rush as it doesn't have the same processor load as Premiere Pro and great for laptops.

Here's how to do this: 1. Create a black rectangle that fills the screen 2. Add another rectangle that is white with rounded edges 3. Drag this graphic to the highest track in your sequence 4. In your Effect Controls, set the graphic's Blend Mode to Multiply.

What’s the best way to feather the round edges of that shape? Some of the filters create a poor approximation of a fade which looks artificial.

You can do this by adding a shadow to the shape, and then increase the shadow's opacity, size and blur - but a better way to do this is by adding a mask to the opacity effect.

Hey, thank you so much! In the video you drag the footage from your imported files, I tried to drag footage from the 'cutting window', as I only wanted a piece of my footage, but wasn't able to, do you know if it's possible to do that? The only way for me to solve this was to export the cut out piece, and import i again. I'm thinking it would be great to be able to do the cutting while using the rounded effect. Thanks again!

Thanks Jenny! If you need to trim the clip, you have 2 options: 1) create a trimmed subclip and drag that into your graphic, or 2) use a rectangle mask in the Opacity effect of you clip instead (the Mask Expansion setting will give you round corners).

Underneath the layer stack in the Essential Graphics panel is a folder icon - click this to create a new Group folder and drag both your video and the shape into the folder.

Add a rectangle, get the roundness the way you want it (add more strokes if you need to) and then resize the rectangle by dragging the edges.

The black background is actually transparent. Put anything on the track below it and you'll be able to see it.

This might be better done with masks - but you can always drag the individual audio clips onto the timeline and then link them to the graphic.

I am unable to drag footage underneath the shape. Don't know if there's some function you have to turn on to enable this, but it's not working.

Hey Keith, what type of footage are you trying to drag? It won't work for things like sequences, multicamera or merged clips.

@@ThePremierePro I was trying to pull in a pre-clipped segment from an existing sequence. When I tried with the original footage clip it worked. That said, I'm now running into another problem: it doesn't allow you to pull in segments of your footage, only the whole thing. I've also tried track matte keying the rounded rec over a segment of footage in the timeline and when I apply the effect, the resulting mask crop is much smaller than the actual shape and when I try to scale it, it runs into the boundaries of the output monitor window.

Good question Moamen - you'll need to either add sound separately on the timeline, or create the rounded edges with an Opacity mask (use the Mask Expansion setting) instead of the Essential Graphics panel.

such a stupid thing along many other changes in Premiere PRO over the years, in the past was to simply accomplish this with the old text editor. Also, the greatest stupid thing in premiere pro is removing the start and end percentage in the transition edit menu. I hate this type of workaround for things that were straightforward in the past.
